  1. Pete, That is totally the most honest and complete answer, by far, I have gotten from anyone on this subject. Thank you for the detailed response. At least now I can quit chasing this thing and either deal with it or bump up from ASX to ASA and see how much better it might get. From my point of view, the biggest issue is for those doing on-line flights, particularly group flights. Not having uniform winds cause havoc for the pilots and controllers trying to maintain separation between same direction traffic. Since we can't expect everyone to use a commercial weather source, we will just have to "live with it." Thanks, Mike
  2. Pete, I apologize in advance if this turns out to have nothing at all to do with FSUIPC, actually I doubt that it has. But to be totally honest, I have exhausted all other lines of support, including the weather program vendor. Since you know more about FS than about anyone alive or dead, I will stick out my neck and ask for your opinion. Winds Aloft sent to FSX by either ActiveSky X or VATSIM weather don't turn out to be what is being sent. At any given altitude, the winds I should be realizing are dramatically different, often accompanied by sudden wind shifts of up to 180 degrees and big windspeed changes. If ASX is showing 270 and 80 knots and -50 degrees temp, I am seeing something else, often a whole lot different. In a group flight tonight using VATSIM weather, the other three aircraft, same altitude and just ahead/behind me, most often had the same winds while I had something completely different (note they were all in FS9 and me in FSX). In trouble shooting this over the last couple weeks, I have removed FSUIPC from my modules folder and found nothing changed. After reinstalling FSUIPC and updating to 4.561, clearing weather settings, I am still seeing this. Quite frankly, I have no idea what demon is inside my PC causing this, and neither does anyone else. Mike Bevington To cover the basics, here is my current FSUIPC ini file and the weather section of my FSX config file. And yes, I have FSX set to User Defined Weather. 3. Sorry, I should have tried your fix first to get that feedback to you.
  4. You nailed it Pete, there was an old "test" joystick configuration in there which I found right on the WinXP Control Panel/Joysticks config tool. I deleted it and now everything is fine. As in the past, your support is outstanding. Now I just have to find an unused key combination to use for a Squawkbox4 push to talk assignment and I am good to go. Thank you sir. Mike Bevington
  5. This happens 100% of time. FSX will completely lock up when I open the Buttons + Switches tab in 4.53 and also after updating to 4.561. Other FSUIPC functions on all other tabs seem to work fine, it's just the Buttons + Switches tab. After selecting it, you cant move off it or close FSUIPC. However, if I click a button on my CH Yoke, the button registers in the window but then everything freezes and CNTL ALT DEL is only option. From memory of trouble shooting in the old days, I tried deleting the FSUIPC4.ini file and starting with fresh one but same result. Then I thought of deleting the FSX config file but dont see anything there that could relate to this so I have not tried that. Note also I have taken a considerably long break from Flightsim and only yesterday updated from FSUIPC 4.11. It was not till trying to program a button for keying a mic that I ran into this last night. 6. Thanks Pete, I expected as much but wanted to hear if from the expert. I should have been clearer about my statement regarding impossible to fly with ActiveSky. That's not exactly what I meant. I agree ActiveSky is an improvement over FSX's weather. The statement was actually referring to flying on-line with a group of friends who were using FS9. Them with an 80 knot headwind and me with a 80 knot tailwind is what I meant by "impossible for me to fly with". Also, sorry for not signing my post, thought I had an autosiggie here. Thanks for your support! Mike Bevington VATSIM Board of Governors
  7. I have done some searching but have not found much about the winds aloft in FSX. The direction is wrong and the rate of change makes flying with the newest version of Activesky impossible for me to fly with. And, the FSX internal weather is not providing winds aloft at all. It is frustrating to say the least. On the Activesky forum, I am told that only a bug fix from Microsoft will solve this wind problem. It reminds me of the very similar issue with FS9. Turning to FSUIPC finds the wind rate of change facility not availabe as it was with FS9. So what's the word on this? Are others finding the same result?
