Hi,

I am quite new to flight simulations. I have joined a VA and I am need to use FSUIPC 4 to connect to ACARS. When I first started flight simulator and downloaded FSUIPC to try it out it started crashing fsx when en route or at the start of cruise altitude and it will say "fatal error occurred". When I stopped using full screen (so that I can switch between apps) it mysteriously disappeared.

After 2-3 months, it suddenly reappeared. I do not know whether it is related or not to the full screen mode but I am sure it is being caused by FSUIPC because it disappears when I delete it (it crashes full screen or not now). Now it freezes when I load my aircraft on airports like KORB or S28 (only certain airports) but it also sometimes crashes fsx while en route or in flight. I have tried downloading the older version of FSUPC - 4.909 (I think) and now it freezes after taking off or reloading after a crash (Still learning).I know it cannot be because of any addons because it froze the first time I downloaded it and there were not any addons.

This issue is really becoming annoying as I need to quit online events in my VA. Please help :( . I really need FSUIPC so that I can connect to ACARS.

Thanks :D ,

Aaron.

All of your crashes are in WEATHER.DLL. It is only not happening when FSUIPC isn't running because then FSUIPC isn't asking SimConnect for the weather data regularly. I suspect your problem is arising because of corrupted weather files. Try removing all .WX files from your Flight Simulator X Files folder in your Documents folder.

You may also have a corrupt wxstationlist.bin file. That's in the same folder as your FSX.CFG file. Try deleting it so that FSX makes a new one.

I've no idea why it only happens in full screen mode. The mode is completely irrelevant to both FSUIPC and WEATHER.DLL, so that seems more likely to be a video driver problem.

Oh, and please install FSUIPC 4.928. I can't support earlier versions.

Hi Pete, I have deleted all my saved flights with their .wx files and I also deleted the wxstationlist.bin file in the weather folder but now it crashes straight after loading. I also installed FSUIPC 4.928 from the website.

I also have done a lot of experimenting and I figured that it only happened in certain airports  :huh: (I can fly in KSFO but not KORD). I really have no idea what is going on because it only started to happen recently and I had FSUIPC since I bought fsx. The first time it happened after it mysteriously went away was when I was flying a Grumman Goose in fair weather in S28 to look at the hole next S28. It doesn't happen when I copied FSUIPC out temporarily.

Thanks Again :D ,

Aaron.

Well, the crashes are still in WEATHER.DLL, so I really don't see how they are related to scenery areas. However, I believe it must be due to in-memory data corruption in the weather data -- and there's a way to prove that which I'll explain in a moment. This could well be caused by a bad texture file which is only being called up at certain locations -- either a scenery texture or an aircraft texture. There's been a case identified recently, causing STACKHASH crashes in FSX, which only occurred at certain locations and was eventually nailed down to a faulty AI traffic aircraft.texture for an airline flying out of the near airport. I suspect other types of crashes are equally likely in such cases as different memory arrangements affect different data structures.

Should I put back the wxstationlist.bin file (If it doen't affect fsx then I will just leave it in another folder temporarily).

FSX will make a new one if it needs to -- there's a backup in its WEATHER folder in any case.

To test with FSUIPC installed but not reading or writing any weather at all, change this line in the FSUIPC4.INI file before loading FSX:

WeatherReadFactor=2

change this to

WeatherReadFactor=0

Hi Pete, changing the WeatherReadFactor to 0 made fsx work properly again :D  :D  :D !! To make sure I put 2 back into the WeatherReadFactor section to double check and fsx instantly crashed instantly after starting up. So I am very sure that WeatherReadFactor is causing fsx to crash now.

Can I leave it at 0 or do I need to change the number to something else so everything works properly? (I am still trying to think why it did not crash until now)

Thanks, :D

Aaron

What you've managed to prove is that something is corrupting the Weather data, either that being read or whatever is stored in memory.

What is the weather setting in your FS weather menu? If it is initially downloading weather from the MS site, then it may be that. Select a clear weather theme and close FS down so that when you relaod that will be its action.

Or I suppose it might be a corruption in the Themes.

The only other alternatives from what you've told me are

( a ) some bad texture file, either in scenery or AI traiffic, is corrupting memory, or

( b ) Weather.DLL or SimConnect is corrupted

( c ) You have some bad memory chip.

if it only occurs at certain places then (a) seems the most likely.

If you have no application needing to read or write weather through FSUIPC then it does no harm to leave "WeatherReadFactor" at 0. It's workaround, though, not a solution.

Thanks Pete, I put weather factor back to 2 and restarted fsx with weather as clear skies but it still crashes. By the way, I often use the weather settings cold fronts or fair weather while flying. I rarely use real world weather. I think I can stick with weather factor being 0 because I use FSUIPC for ACARS but it will still be nice to know what is causing the problem.

It's a bad file somewhere. If you have a backup of FSX first replace the WEATHER.DLL from the backup. Otherwise it will most likely be some texture file associated with the airports near or at which you get the crashes.
