FSUIPC and GNS530

Recommended Posts

Hello Pete,

I bought a GNS 530 from Emuteq and I use it with P3D GPS (I don't use it with RealityXP GPS).

I know that every commands of the P3D GPS are in FSUIPC, I found a lot but there is some that I can't found or don't work.

Can you help me ?

When I'll finish I will make a Tuto about the programmation of the Basic P3D GPS with FSUIPC.

Here are the commands that I can't find in FSUIPC "Buttons & Switches" :

- Increase/Decrease Frequency (Mhz) - I found it only for NAV or form COM but no for the 2 (When I Switch in the GPS between NAV/COM)

- Increase/Decrease Frequency (Khz) - I found it only for NAV or form COM but no for the 2 (When I Switch in the GPS between NAV/COM)

- COM/NAV Switch

- NAV/GPS Switch (CDI)

- On/Off Button (I found "GPS Activate" or "GPS Power" but it seems not to work. When I push them, the GPS don't start or don't Switch Off)

- Cursor On/Off

- Nav Active/Standby Frequencies

- "V" button on the Top left

- "C" with the arrow on the Top left

For the rest it's good :-)

Thank you very much Pete

Kind regards

Ludovic

There's a list of all of the controls accessible to FSUIPC in your FSUIPC Documents folder. I don't really know what is meant by all of your wording above so I'm not sure i can be specific. For instance, what is meant by " but no for the 2 (When I Switch in the GPS between NAV/COM)"? Do you mean COM2 and NAV2? Because there are controls for those too.

I expect that those actions you list which are purely local to the GPS rather than active in the FS avionics system won't have their own controls, being handled internally to the gauge. I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if this applied to On/Off, Cursor On/Off and the V and C, whatever they are.

One way to detect the control names/numbers in use is to enable Event logging in FSUIPC and operate the unit with a mouse. If you temporarily run FS/P3D in Windowed mode you can enable the Console Log option too and see what happens in real time.

It is sometimes possible to drive internal gauge functions with local panel variables, or "L:Vars". You can log the Lvars using an assignable FSUIPC control, or the sample Lua plug-in for this. Lua variables can be written to by Macros assigned to buttons or keys.

Thank you Pete for your answer :

"- Increase/Decrease Frequency (Mhz) - I found it only for NAV or form COM but no for the 2 (When I Switch in the GPS between NAV/COM)"  That mean when I'm changing from Com to Nav in my GPS (with Vnav I guess) my left switch continue changing my Com Frequency. Normaly when I select Nav, the left switches of my GPS would automatically permit me to mofidy NAV Frequency. Than when I change to Com, it should automatically permit me to change the Com Frequency. So my question was, how to change Com and Nav with the same button (As the P3D GPS do).

- I will also try to find the offset with Console Log but where can I find Console Log ? Where can I find FSUIPC Document Folder with all controls ?

- Maybe there is a tuto with all switches, functions and buttons of the FSX/P3D normal 430/530 GPS, no ?

- One last question Pete. I use also X-Plane. Do you plan to make a FSUIPC for X-Plane ? There is XPUIPC, but to be honest, it's not so good and to enter the offsets, you have to write them by hand. FSUIPC have a real great interface so it's easy to set the Switches, Axes... I don't have to find which Offset it is, and to write all datas of the Joystick...

Waiting for your answer

Thank you pete

You won't be able to do this easily with the same buttons for both because they are different controls. One way to do that would be to have a Lua plug-in which switched between the two -- but it may not be possible for it to detect the state of the NAV/COM switch, so you'd need to program that too. You might be able to do it with conditional button actions, as described in the advanced user's guide for FSUIPC, but again you'd need to work out how to tell where the switch is set. Maybe there's a L:var which will tell you, but they can only be read in Lua in any case.

- I will also try to find the offset with Console Log

Where do offsets come into it? You need to find the control name or number, as I said above.

but where can I find Console Log ?

"Console Log" is an option in the Logging tab of FSUIPC. Please do look at the assorted options in FSUIPC some time.

Where can I find FSUIPC Document Folder with all controls ?

In the FS Modules folder. That's where everything to do with FSUIPC is found. The Installation document for FSUIPC, which you should have read before installing FSUIPC (it is in the same ZIP as the Installer) tells you what is installed and where.

Maybe, if you've never looked in the FSUIPC Documents folder, you've never even read any of the documentation for FSUIPC?

- Maybe there is a tuto with all switches, functions and buttons of the FSX/P3D normal 430/530 GPS, no ?

I don't know. Sorry. I've never used any of the GPS's for FS.

- One last question Pete. I use also X-Plane. Do you plan to make a FSUIPC for X-Plane ?

No, sorry, I have no interest in X-Plane at all.

Hi Ludovic / @ludo1426

8 years since you bought your GNS 530 from Emuteq.

Did you ever get it going?

Did you ever post your proposed Tutorial "about the programmation of the Basic P3D GPS with FSUIPC"?

I am not having much success and am looking for assistance and ideas/direction.
