"Cannot edit the DLL.XML file to activate FSUIPC"

Recommended Posts

Had FSX-Classic (boxed version).

Installed FSX-SE (both on computer simultaneously).

Downloaded/Installed FSUIPC 4.939.  Worked.

Liked FSX-SE a lot.

Uninstalled FSX-Classic because of some problems with ORBX installation.

Uninstalled FSX-SE.

Uninstalled FSUIPC.

Installed FSX-SE.  Initiated FSX-SE.  Went flying.  Fixed ORBX issues with the following advice from the ORBX Forum

---------------------------

@ncngrr.

Sometimes there is still a trace of FSX and if that is the case, by default, FSX-SE will

be installed in "Co-exist" mode, ie so that it and FSX can be installed on the same PC.

This is why the external folders are named FSX-SE  instead of FSX.

Use your Registry Editor to go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator - Steam Edition

where you will see a Registry Key named Co-existence.

You will see that its value is 1.

Right click on modify and change this to 0.

You can then go to

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\

C:\Users\Your name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\

C:\Users\Your name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\

and in each case delete the FSX-SE folder.

If you see an FSX folder, delete that also.

Then restart FSX-SE and new folders named FSX will be created.

Once you have done this, the file structure should match what

the installers expect to find for FSX and work correctly.

Hi ncngrr, I encountered the same problem and I modified my registry and went through the exact procedure you did.  However when it came to installing FSUIPC4 (it was a licensed version), it could install but wouldn't activate it because it couldn't find the FSX_SE config file and couldnt edit my dll.xml (my log attached).  Of course I no longer had the file because in order to install orbx I had to modify the registry and rename the file from FSX_SE to just FSX (I fontknow whe  but they were the instructions provided in the orbx forum!).

I found a workaround but Im not sure if it is a permanent fix.  I went into my FSX folder and renamed it to FSX-SE and then renamed my fsx.cfg file to fsx_se.cfg.  I was then able to active FSUIPC4.

FSX-SE will try to write a new fsx.cfg file.  I simply renamed the new fsx.cfg to fsxcopy.cfg (just in case I messed up and needed it again) and renamed the fsx_se.cfg file back to fsx.cfg.  Works great now.

Im sure Pete will have a more elegant solution but for now it has solved my problem... hope this helps.

Installed FSUIPC 4.939.  Receive "Cannot edit the DLL.XML file to activate FSUIPC".  Install log reads:

Ouch!  This is the problem:

Use your Registry Editor to go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator - Steam Edition

where you will see a Registry Key named Co-existence.

You will see that its value is 1.

Right click on modify and change this to 0.

In 4.939 I carefully modified the Installer so it would recognise the fact that the Registry points to both FSX and FSX-SE in the same folder, which is what happens when you uninstall FSX and FSX-SE and reinstall. somehow bits get left set.

After the installer was fixed to handle it completely correctly with none of these problems, you managed to defeat it completely by fiddling the FSX-SE install to install as FSX (thge coexistence bit), but you forgot to remove the FSX-SE installation entry to match!

 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator - Steam Edition\10.0

     Parameter"AppPath"

... >>>  OK! FOUND FSX-SE!  <<< ...

     AppPath=D:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\

************ BUT this is the same path as for FSX! Will only install for FSX-SE ************

Delete that entry and it will be more like a correct non-coexisitng FSX-SE!

Looks like I'll have to deal with another combination of fiddled results -- maybe look for FSX.CFG as well as FSX-SE CFG even when just installing for a supposedly FSX-SE only installation!

Failsafe, Pete,  Thanks for the inputs and thoughts.

Being a generally impatient man and not waiting for the cognizant authority, I uninstalled FSX-SE again, deleted all FSX-related files/folders from Steam>SteamApps, deleted all FSX-related files/folders from the registry, and started over.

FSUIPC activated fine.  ORBX products are installed fine now too.  I believe I'm back in business.

Thanks much!

By the way, I love FSUIPC!  Wouldn't fly without it!
