Am I missing something? FSUIPC: no settings available in FSX

Recommended Posts

I have tried a number of times to install unregistered version of fsuipc to try to cure my problem with Saitek controls losing calibration in FSX.

I have tried turning off McAffee, and running the .exe as administrator, to no avail.

Following install,  all I get in FSX/Add-ons is a window labelled "FSUIPC Options and Settings.  This has 2 tabs, "About & Logging.  The About tab details the usual info about the programme, version etc.

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong, and how I can remedy it.

Apologies in advance if it turns out to be a stupid question.

Yes, that is correct. The free, unregistered installation of FSUIPC provides no user facilities whatsoever, it acts in its original free role of providing an interface into FS for other programs. The user facilities are the reason folks purchase a registration.

All this is clearly explained in the User guide, which you will find along with other documents and files in your FSUIPC Documents folder, in the FS Modules folder. You were pointed to this folder by the Installation document you ignored in the downloaded ZIP.

I'm new to this, which is why I am looking for a way to use my sim with reliable controls.  Everyone tells me to get FSUIPC.  The Installation document that I "ignored" is a little vague, as it says "The ability to run all FSUIPC-dependent application programs. (Commercial and shareware products pay a fee or subscription. All genuine freeware programs get free access keys on application)".  How am I supposed to know what is dependent and what isnt? How can this be classed as a Demo version if it doesnt actually demonstrate the functionality of the paid version?  Maybe if you included the first line in your response to me in the document I "ignored" then I wouldnt have felt compelled to ask what I admitted might be a stupid question.

I understand that you must get many questions of this nature, but surely, making it clear that there is no way to preview the software before having to pay for it would save you, and us, a lot of wasted time.

When you get an application which needs FSUIPC it will either install it for you, or tell you to install it.  I don't know all of the thousands of programs which need or use FSUIPC. You have things the wrong way around! In any case you do NOT need to purchase FSUIPC for its application interface. That side has always been free, since FS98 times.

It isn't a Demo. There is no demo. There never has been, and in all of the 14 years there's been a payware version of FSUIPC, you are the very first person to be confused by this.

There is no point whatsoever in having a "preview". FSUIPC doesn't do anything at all unless you actually tell it to. It's a box of tools. Each tool is different and you use whatever bits you need. The only "preview" you might want is the User Guide. After the part you have already read there are chapters explaining the tools available.

Right, now I understand.  I misunderstood the nature of the program, this was probably not helped by the details in Simarket that said "First download and install the demo version and check functionality!

The demo version is the product installation file; there is no other download!"

OK, so it looks like whoever wrote the page didnt get the brief.  Thanks for explaining it to me, now I understand what it is, I guess I better buy it.

Thanks for your time.

Ah, sorry. I didn't realise that. I'll see if I can get that changed.
