Button Assignments Spurious Error Message with FSUIPC4.949e

Hello Pete,

I’m using the box version of FSX on a Win7/64 system with FSUIPC4.949 upgraded to FSUIPC4.949e. I am still getting the spurious "multiple actions" error in Button assignments.

 

I first tried commenting out the two instances of the offending button, and then restarting FSX, but that didn’t work.

 

I then changed the button # to a non-existing button value (30), and that didn’t work.

 

Finally I completely deleted the lines which originally had used the offending yoke button (PY,0), restarted FSX and that didn’t work.

 

A search of FSUIPC4.ini with Notepad++ for the offending button  (PY,0 and UY,0)  turns up empty (see attached pictures).

 

I have tried re-downloading FSUIPC4.949e and re-pasting the FSUIPC4.dll into the modules folder, but as I expected that did not help.

 

Is there something else I should look for in the FSUIPC4.ini file?

There was a bug related to the use of the "IgnoreThese" parameter, but that was fixed in 4.949a.

 

I've just re-tested for that problem here. I need to be able to reproduce the problem in order to fix it, so rather than post pictures of the problem (as if I wouldn't believe you), could you please paste in your complete INI file so I can try here?

At this point I know the Y.0 problem does happen with non-profile aircraft, and with Regional Jet aircraft.  I will do some tests and provide more info to better answer your questions when I get home this evening (it is mid morning here right now).

Found the problem.

 

You have a number of Button assignment lines which are like this:

 

7=; placeholder
8=; placeholder
9=; placeholder
 
This is not correct, of course. They should be:
 
!7=placeholder
!8=placeholder
!9=placeholder
 
The initial ! denotes this as a numbered line which needs retaining in position.
 
7=; placeholder
 
actually results in a null keypress assignment assignment for Joystick #0, Button # 0 -- your Y,0.
 
I'll change this processing so that those button table entries are ignored. But really you should use ! as a prefix to the whole line when you are wanting a placeholder.
 
It will be fixed in any case in 4.949f and later. Maybe later today, more likely on the weekend.
 
Incidentally, you also preceded some lines to be omitted (presumably) by // or ;. This doesn't do any harm, but those lines aren't guaranteed to be retained.

I've learned that the best way to comment out a whole line is to precede it with a ! point .  I will make those changes, and while I'm at it clean out the INI file a bit by removing entries I really don't need anymore.

I have no idea where that line came from, I certainly didn't enter it myself. The only thing I can think of is that I use three monitors and re-designate which is to be the main monitor when using FSX. In any case, I will delete that line.

FSUIPC 4.949f is now released, with Installer (because it includes updated Lua documentation), and this corrects the problem with the spurious button 0,0 assignments..
