Hi Pete, Quick question.... I'm using a voice recognition software. I run it on my FS2004 server so I can use it to control ATC commands. Now if I wanted to be able to say "LNAV" for example, and have it activate the LNAV pushbutton on my PM MCP client, I suppose I have to assign a key in FSUIPC, and link that to the PM MCP LNAV function. Then go into my voice program and make the voice command trigger that key assignment. Is there any more direct way of doing this? Thanks in advance. -Steve

Hi Pete, As I mentioned above, I have a mixed network. Can I use UDP with a WinXP server and Win98SE Clients? I have some licenses for Win2k. Do you think I'd be better off running Win2K on the client machines, being that I have a WinXP server? I'll try the updated WideFS. Regards, Steve

Hi Pete, If I fly my simulator for an extended period of time (over 1 hour) I notice the PM PFD display starts getting choppy, especially the speed and altitude tapes. They seem to look like they are running at 2 or 3 frames per second. This doesn't always happen, but maybe 50% of the time. Now if I shutdown WideFS and PM PFD software and restart those programs, sometimes it goes away and runs smooth again. In a worst case, sometimes I have to power down all the PC's, and the Jetliner console, and restart the whole network. Forgive me for being so vague, but it seems like maybe WideFS or the network is getting bogged down with data transfer. Or like the data is "stuck" (how's that for a technical term?) and not transfering between PC's. (It's a 100Mbps network with a single 5-port hub.) Currently, I'm using IPX/SPX on a WinXP/Win98SE network. (yes, I tried it again.) But I've seen this with TCP/IP too. So my question is, does this sound like anything you've seen before, and what is the fix? Or if you can't answer that just yet, what should I check to see if there is something causing network bottlenecks, slowdowns, or whatever. Cheers, Steve

Hi Pete, I haven't used IPX/SPX in a while. I'm running a mixed platform.... Windows XP is the server, and all the clients are Windows 98. I think originally, I had issues with IPX/SPX due to the WinXP server. If you feel that should no longer be a problem with the newest WinXP Service Pack, I'll try it again. If IPX/SPX offers better performance, that would be a good thing. :wink: I used to prefer it over TCP/IP, but went away from IPX/SPX when I implemented a WinXP server for FS2004. Hhhmm. Hi Pete, You're right, ASV6 was running in that particular instance. I run it in offline mode, however, and even if I start wideclient without ASV6 running, I still get the "dial internet connection" box popping up. I'll dig a little deeper into some of the settings in the other applications and see what I can find. I completely understand that WideClient itself is not trying to get internet access, however, it seems to be the one thing that triggers the situation. I'll try shutting down ZoneAlarm, the virus software, etc. and see what happens. Thanks for your help. -Steve

Hi Pete, I asked you because you wrote the .dll. :wink: It would not be a PFC MCP, but another brand. I just wanted to make sure, before I invest a large sum of money, that I won't have any issues with the hardware MCP that already exist on the Jetliner console fighting with another MCP. I figured they would just exist in parallel, and making changes on either one would command FS. A hardware MCP driving PM's MCP software on a wideclient would presumably be no differen than me operating the PM MCP sofware with a mouse on the wideclient machine. I was reasonably sure it wouldn't be a problem, but I've been surprised with things before..... And usually after I invested money in something. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't overlooking anything. Thanks, Steve

Hi Pete, Welcome back. Hope you had a good holiday! I should have rephrased my statement. ..... WideFS seems to trigger something else to want to dial an internet connection. Perhaps something in my network or dial up settings? I don't know. I'm running Zone Alarm and an old version of Norton AntiVirus. When I double click the shortcut to start WideClient, it opens but also the dial up connection window pops up and wants to dial for internet access. I have WideClient set up to start PM CDU and PM MCP once it connects to the FS server using the run-ready feature. If I press CTL-ALT-DEL, these are the programs running in the background: Explorer Osd Zdclient Oqm Navapw32 Syntpenh Syntplpr Rundll32 mmkeybd Irmon Systray Rnaapp This is something that just started recently, and I'm not sure what I did to cause it. The only thing I recall is updating WideFS and Project Magenta files. I haven't changed any hardware, nor have I reconfigured any settings - at least not intentionally or that I recall. One of my WideClient machines is running Win98SE, and has a dial up connection. Every time I run WideFS on the client machine, it tries to dial an internet connection. What setting do I change to prevent this? I only want it to access my network. It seems I can prevent it from dialing using the settings in Zone Alarm, but why is it trying to access the internet in the first place? Thanks in advance. -Steve

One of my WideClient PC's is the one with internet access. Without setting up internect connection sharing in Windows, is there a way to have FS's Real Weather download and display the current weather in FS using WideFS, or something? Or perhaps there is a free utility that can run on the WideClient and load real weather into the FS machine? (I don't want to have to pay for another program.) Thanks, Steve

Yes. That is what happens. Pete, what's the date on your firmware? When I power up the Jetliner console I get 04-14-2001 in the NAV1 window, which I assume is the firmware date. Thanks, -Steve

Hi Pete, Here's a little more info. I can arm the autothrottle with the toggle switch to the left of the throttle quadrant and I see the autothrottle switch on the PM MCP flip up and the light turn green. Now if I push the A/T disengage switch on the side of the throttle levers, I see the autothrottle switch on the MCP switch very quickly turn off but then back on as I release the button. If I try to press and release the A/T Disengage button very fast, maybe one in ten tries results in the A/T switch on the MCP turning off and staying off. But the rest of the time, it seems to do a quick toggle off and back on. I think that might be why I've seen the speed bug reset a few time. As the autothrottle turns on again, it is setting the speed in the MCP to the current airspeed. Anyhow, I hope that helps. Please let me know what you think. Is this some sort of timing issue? I know the A/T Disengage buttons are momentary switches..... It seems that as I press it, going low to high turns off the Autothrottle, but as I release the switch the state changes from high to low and seems to effectively turn on the autothrottle again. On the test page, when I depress the switch it says: 9C 00 JetSwchs=00 When I release it it says: 9C 01 JetSwchs=01 Is there perhaps a setting somewhere I'm overlooking? I haven't reprogrammed anything. At least, not that I know of. ;-) Cheers, Steve

Hi Pete, I have a PFC Jetliner console with the 737 throttle quadrant. My question is, how do I make use of the A/T Disconnect feature on the throttles? The Jetliner console was rewired by PFC to support the 737 throttle quadrant. So I should be okay as far as hardware. They said the firmware fine, also. When I'm flying with the Autothrottle engaged and I want to disengage it I press the "A/T Disconnect" button on the throttle lever, but it seems to set the speed bug to whatever my current airspeed is, rather than turn off the Autothrottle. Do I need to do something in the PFC.dll setup? Or maybe FSUIPC? (I have the 737 quadrant selected in the PFC.dll.) My expectation is that the autothrottle would turn off, but still be armed because the arming switch is turned on. Is that correct? Any help is much appreciated, as I haven't really explored this feature much yet. Cheers, Steve
