  1. Wow, what a mess! That's exactly the kind of thing that would have turned me off to the point of no longer using the product. It's not their fault but I just hate annoying work-arounds. I've set up CTRL-A to that toggle. I'm so new to ActiveSky that I'm just now getting comfortable with its usage. As best I can tell, the way I know that they're set is that my weather setting changes from Clear to "User-Defined" so I assume that means they've changed it. You mention toggling it "off" to start but is that an option? Is there a way to tell it to start off given that it's just a toggle? I suspect that means there'd be no traffic when you came in, but then when I hit the key, it would appear. Also, do you have to wait between toggles or just back-to-back key presses? Auto would work fairly nicely for me as I run at 40% so it's not too bad. I find that with the current level of AI coding from MS that going much higher than that causes that unwanted mess of far too many planes clogging up runways and landing on one another, etc. BTW, I mentioned this in another thread but in case you missed it, thanks a bunch for the Run capability. It's great to be able to auto-start ActiveSky. The only issue I have right now is that FS9 starts and puts up the splash screen. Then I see ActiveSky starting with its splash/progress bar screen over the FS9 splash screen. Then FS9 takes over and I'm at the main menu but then ActiveSky finishes loading and grabs focus again and pulls me out of FS9. The ActiveSky support guy (Jim) said to just set the Properties to Run Minimized but I'll be darned if that works for me. I figured there should be a way to tell an application to run in the background. Any thoughts?
  2. Pete, I've seen a few references to both manual ways and, possibly, an automated way using FSUIPC to get FS9 to updated the ATIS and Runway information after ActiveSky (and other weather products) updates its weather. What is currently the best method for doing this and did I read too much into the possibility of automating this as of version 3.40?
  3. I'm sure your drivers would be great but, in the unlikely even that tomorrow a great flight sim came out that your drivers didn't support, I wouldn't want to find myself with a single-product solution IF possible, but you make a very compelling argument. And on the Cirrus II, it looked like the throttle quadrant was somehow removed. Do a search on eBay and you'll see the pictures. There's only one up there. It's just a big flat area with no bolts and no quadrant. But hey, if I could have gotten it for a few hundred dollars it would've been worth spending the extra for the quadrant to add back to it. Just no telling what kind of shape this was in or what else might be wrong.
  4. The PFC quadrants look pretty nice. I like the turbo prop one. I might have to give them a look, though I would really want full USB support, meaning XP see it as a valid USB device and Properties can show all the buttons and such. My guess is this is a serial device at heart. In fact, there's a Cirrus II panel on eBay that was at $100 and last I left it was $250. It's used and the pictures don't show much detail except that it has no throttles and the yoke is the older Jet model but it was worth a shot.
  5. I've been thinking about exactly that when I added Feather support on the prop (hurray, I typed that right this time) axis. What sort of rubber do you think would work well? I was thinking about a rubberband but then I didn't think it would adhere well and it would require constant pressure when I want it all the way down. I kept thinking you almost need two pieces, like your gate so that the control could open the gate but then I had real doubts you'd feel it after a very short time. Kinda surprising that CH didn't think of it but then again, where would they put them to make everyone happy. Those that don't use it would be annoyed at the detent.
  6. Okay, so when I DO go and add CH Product new Throttle Quadrant, then I'll have a spare axis to dedicate this to. You are correct. I used the incorrect term there. It is the prop setting I'm talking about. Believe it or not, but I'm actually a rather sharp fellow in general but somehow I've just endlessly tripped over this issue. Thanks for not losing it on me! I know I've been annoying with this. Now that I see it, it's simple. I should have figured that out. I know what I did. I did the typical building of a bridge in the middle of a field as they say. I saw the Reverser section and got STUCK on it to the exclusion of other possibilities. It now works just like it should of course. And, further, I see the danger as on landing, without a detent it's going to be a bit difficult to cut the engines without going into reverse. It'd almost be better to assign this to a button! Almost. This is a case where I decided to employ the use of RSPOTFM otherwise known as "Read Select Parts Of......TFM". I jumped around reading up on reversers and such. And you'll have to trust me when I tell you that I've probably read your docs more than most. I just don't live in Flight Sim so I tend to have to go back all the time to touch up on things and that can get confusing. Again, I apologize for putting you through all that. I knew the software could do it, knew the problem was me but still needed to get a good swift kick in the backside because I just kept getting myself wedged further and further into that same corner. I'll have to run into you somewhere to pick up a round for you. If I do, I promise not to try and set my own axis on the way to paying for the round.
  7. On the first item, I just meant that since the Reverser is below the throttle on all the planes I use (graphically within the sim) I assumed that when I went in to set the reverser that it would be tied to the throttle axis, not the mixture axis. As far as the problem with the documentation, it's not your fault. It's just one of those things I read over several times and it just doesn't sink in. It's my fault. Later in your reply I started to get it. All this is for a separate reverser axis control. I guess what I'm looking to do is to be able to get my throttle to work like my mixture does in the King Air. In the King Air I've set up the mixture so that when I move it nearly all the way to the bottom, it goes into a dead zone and then into the Feather area. That, in fact, is the main reason I was glad to send you my money. That alone was worth it to me. So now I thought there would be an FSUIPC screen just like that for the throttle so that when I get near the bottom of the throttle it will go into a dead zone and then, when I push it all the way down, it'll go into the Reverse section. Both the King Air and the Dash 8 have a Reverse at the bottom of the Throttle graphic that I simply cannot reach without manually grabbing them with the mouse and moving the levers into the Reverse section. However, on Page 1 of 7 under Throttle, when I hit Set, there is no ability to set 3 zones as I did with mixture. There are just two zones. In other words, on Page 5 there's a Feather/Min/Max setup. I guess what I was hoping to see for throttle when I hit Set was Reverse/Min/Max. Does that make any more sense?
  8. I guess I'm just confused about finding that when I attempted to set the limits of the control, FSUIPC wasn't reading the throttle. It was reading the mixture control. I wondered if perhaps I did this. I have reverse setup and working in the King Air 350 including a nice dead zone that I've grown accustomed to but, correct me if I'm wrong, in the King Air that control is on the mixture control. Thus, I started wondering if there is a way to have it work on all planes based on the setup of each plane or if setting it for the Dash meant that I had to screw it up for the King Air, etc. I do admit it, this is the one area of FSUIPC that I just personally have a tough time grasping. I just hopped into the sim and realize a correction is needed. In the King Air I have FEATHER setup and working great. Reverse, over on the throttle, still is not setup right there. I just don't want to make changes that will mess up the King Air's Feather settings. First thing I've done is to set the FSUIPC.INI section for ReverserControl=65765 which gets it on the throttle. Now it should just be a case of setting the limits. However, so far it's not working like Prop Mixture did where I had the 3 Set buttons and just set where I wanted it to feature, then idle, then beyond. Here I either get throttle control or reverse control but not both. I'll figure it out.
  9. Pete, I just bought a PSS Dash 8 that I'm enjoying and it appears as if I can get it to reverse manually by bringing the thottles all the way back with the prop angle set right. What's odd is that the reverser seems to be tied to the throttle control and not the prop control which FSUIPC expects it on. What's the best way to deal with this?
  10. Sorry about the duplicate. I'm under the weather and my head just isn't right. I thought I posted a slightly varied version the the FS2004 group but clearly didn't. As far as what happened, I have an idea. Remember, this is a re-install and I did just copy over your DLL, the config file and license. Thus, I suspect FSUIPC still had the old control in it but that it wasn't fully setup. So I'd go to set it up in FS9 and it would act oddly while "W", which was always controlled only by FS9, worked fine. I just took away the assignment in FS9, told you to work it as you suggested and it's fine now.
  11. I own a CH Products Yoke and I use the "trigger" button (button 2) on the right handle (just past the hat) to bring up the ATC window. This used to work just fine before my re-install of FS9 (and XP) from scratch. I've checked the properties for it in the Control Panel and the OS is seeing it just fine. However, when I go and assign it in FS9, it doesn't work right. It only works once in a great while. I go in, click Assign, click the button, it shows up just fine but then in the game it isn't responsive at all. This is odd because I also assign the W key to the similar button over on the left handle to toggle the panel and it works flawlessly. Is anyone aware of anything that is getting in the way of the "`" key that makes it a special case?
  12. Pete, I had to re-install my OS and, not long after, FS9 from scratch again. Thanks for making FSUIPC easy to just copy over the old folder to the new. Anyway, one thing is holding me up from being fully back and I'm a bit confused by it. I own a CH Products Yoke and I use the "trigger" button (button 2) on the right handle (just past the hat) to bring up the ATC window. I got this working in FSUIPC in the past to work for the default ATC and to work the microphone for VATSIM'ing. But for now I just want to get it working for the default ATC. Are you aware of anything that is getting in the way of the "`" key that makes it a special case? Should I just go back and let you handle it fully?
  13. Are you saying you agree with what I found, that MS weather slowly comes into place and doesn't just appear as set? Any idea if there's a way to see the weather stations along a route? If I could then I could probably prove that the route I took happens to fly along that number of stations or close to it. I'll check with JD on that. I didn't see one but wasn't looking for it then. I'm having my issues with Radar Contact. It is impressive but, like everything, it has its pros and cons. I wasn't sure if this had anything to do with them conveying the reading or not. I assumed they'd give you it whenever they got new info since it was happening so often. JD is adding me to the beta group (I have a lot of experience with sound and have given him some solid leads on how to improve several things that need attention) so I should be in there soon enough. I'm just glad I'm not the only one seeing it. The reason I posted here should be obvious. You have the Smooth Pressure option and wondered if perhaps the reason this came about was in part due to this issue.
  14. Pete, can you pop over to the FS2004 forum and see my thread about altimeter changes and what's normal and weigh in on the subject? I'm really concerned about what I'm seeing. I'm wondering if this is the reason for a feature you have.
  15. Yes, you're correct. That's a great feature and so much so that it held me up thinking of my work-around sooner. I kept trying to find a way to have your advanced FS method and also retain the MS ATC call up but that would have taken a LOT more work just to have an elegant solution. I'm not that elegant.
  16. Just to let you know, after one mistake my theory did work like a champ. I told FS to assign the reverse apostrophe to ATC. Removed the Button assignment. Told FSUIPC to map button "1" to the reverse apostrophe key. Went into AVC and told it the PTT key would be the reverse apostrophe key. The mistake was that apparently the default is to check that box that says the key shouldn't be held if I hold it down. Oops. I didn't uncheck that. Once unchecked, it worked like a champ. I now have MS ATC called up with that button when flying with AI aircraft and AVC discussions on that button when in Squawkbox/VATSIM without any difficult modifications. Unfortunately I don't think I'll find a way to get Radar Contact on that button as well. The only reason this works is due to the odd case of Microsoft disabling ATC when in multiplayer mode. Without that, both would obviously be triggered.
  17. I can't say I disagree with them. Maybe in a future release. It's amazing to think of what an FS20 would be like. So many possibilities. In virtually every corner of this sim there is something that can be dramatically improved or added entirely. It never ceases to amaze me. On the downside of that, here we are 10 versions in and I'm surprised some things haven't been done at all or not very well.
  18. Hey, I think I got it working without advanced editing. I goofed (what else is new?) I had both the key AND button assigned in FS and that kept it from working. Once I removed the button assignment, you were able to take it over and when I then go into AVC and choose the section to select the key for PTT, when I hit that button, you send the right key and AVC now sees it. Since it sees it there it should see it anyway and thus, no need for any complication. We'll see. Didn't have the time to actually fly right now to be sure.
  19. That I can live with for now until such time as we have a scrollable menu interface. Since MS ATC is that way, RC isn't any worse off so I'll still be okay there. Now that I realize you still only need one button to call up the main AVC interface and the same button to put it away (I read that wrong the first time) I'm fine there (On press/On release feature). I'm not entirely sure why ATC is shutdown in FS when you go multiplayer. I'm sure there's an obvious reason, but it doesn't come up when you hit the key for it anymore which is what gave me the idea. It actually sounds to me like what I want to do will work without a lot of extra editing and such but I will read the Advanced Guide all the same. The key is you reading the key before MS does, I think. I just don't know where AVC is in that loop. If I use a the default key for MS ATC and you see it in multiplayer mode (I've pressed that button) then I believe AVC should see it unless MS somehow stomps it before it gets to them. Lots to look into, thanks.
  20. Pete, I've read over the documentation and have buttons pretty much down and see that you support AVC (thanks!) for PTT functionality. However, I got to thinking of an optimal situation that I can't seem to make work and wonder if it's just not possible. In FS, the default key for ATC is the reverse apostrophe key below the tilde as you know. I thought it would be optimal to also use this key for AVC because when you setup VATSIM, that key no longer means anything to FS, thus, why not use it in AVC for the same purpose? I also ordered Radar Contact (thanks for the recommendation) and suspect this won't be possible there. But that raises a point that I'd really rather not have 3 buttons or keys just to do ATC. Is there a work-around or must each solution have its own path? In AVC I suspect it's not a big deal as I shouldn't ever need to use a key itself. Thus this may be another case where I'm building a bridge in the middle of a field. I just got to thinking that if I got the right trigger of the Yoke to send the MS ATC key it would work when I'm flying solo and then if I set the AVC key to be the same key, it would also work when I'm flying VATSIM. Or does being in multiplayer just trap this key entirely keeping it from serving two masters?
  21. Not that I've seen. The closest I can get is what I mentioned. Apparently you must have that first download to get it going. You'd think you could just pick that and have it do it when you click on Fly! Actually more than that. Before, under weather, you click on Change. Then there's a delay. Then you had to manually move the radio button to the right selection. Then click OK. Then watch it generate the weather and show it to you and then click OK again. I've cut that pretty much in half now so I was trying to get the final part removed. And forgive me for bugging you on it. I've found in the past that FSUIPC often overcomes the shortcomings I've personally run into with FS so I've started thinking of you with a bit of a red cape on.
  22. Pete, Is there anything in FSUIPC that would force the sim to always get the real weather updated every 15 minutes? I've changed a setting in the .FLT file (under Flights/Other) that reduces this down to 2 clicks (Change and OK) but I'd really just like it to happen every time without input from me. Seems rather obvious to me. I looked over the manual for FSUIPC but the weather controls there didn't seem to provide anything like this.
  23. Agreed. What it really needs is a standard row highlight/selector. Even better would be a design to have the commands be tied to commands not numbers as they are now. Then we could really have some fun. Radar Contact? Really? That's high praise to me. I looked at it earlier on and decided against it and now I can't recall why. I used to use the old ProFlight '98 but hated that it needed to know your exact flight plan and such before you'd fly which essentially meant that you couldn't really change your mind and fly elsewhere. I vaguely recall that being the problem. But I am an ATC fan and do ATC simulating with a program called ATCC from Xavius and Tracon before that so I do look for more realistic solutions. I'll have to go back and look at it again. Pete, I do try to limit my questions to you but in this case you got my interest going. Does Radar Contact support total coverage from clearance, to ground to tower, to departure and so on? I also own GameVoice which I think is what you were referring to. I'm in the sound industry so I've fiddled with recognition for decades now and always give it up after limited success and lots of "red-zone" frustration. (If you're not a US football fan the red zone is when the offense gets close to scoring and, of course it's the hardest part to pull off). I did research Voice Buddy but it seems like just a limited version of GameVoice, albeit with templates dedicated to FS.
  24. That's basically the idea. I don't want to lose the functionality of the Hat when the ATC window is NOT up. I absolutely need to have it for quick views and such. But when the ATC window comes up, I really don't need to be viewing much. Are you saying that I can have the Hat provide its normal functions but then act differently when the ATC window is brought up? The only problem I see is that the ATC window often comes up on its own especially for things like ATC frequency changes (change to command, accept, tune to new freq, contact new freq). I'm almost annoyed enough to go spend several hundred dollars or more on one of the advanced radio stacks but think that's major overkill over a function I just feel MS gave short attention to for now.
  25. Pete, Is there any way FSUIPC might be able to help make the ATC window work a bit easier? I use a CH Products Flight Yoke (and Pro Pedals) and the ONLY thing I really need to continually reach for the keyboard for is the ATC window. Others are recommending VATSIM, GameVoice and such while all I'd really like to do is assign one free button that I have on the Yoke to call up the window and, once it's up, allow the hat on the yoke to let me select items and such. It seems odd to me that MS made this dialog so keyboard dependent. Any ideas?
