Thanx, Pete!
LOL - my system has been trouble free so I never have occasion to check the event viewer and hadn't seen those entries before. Since I just installed a new video driver that would have been my first choice but for the event viewer.
Sorry to rehash old news!

Hi Pete -
On occasion I'm getting a system hang or CTD and the event viewer shows the following messages. Can you shed any light on this?
First error:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: SideBySide
Event Category: None
Event ID: 32
Date: 10/14/2007
Time: 12:20:33 PM
Description:
Dependent Assembly Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect could not be found and Last Error was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.
followed by this:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: SideBySide
Event Category: None
Event ID: 59
Date: 10/14/2007
Time: 12:20:33 PM
Description:
Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect . Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.
and finally:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: SideBySide
Event Category: None
Event ID: 59
Date: 10/14/2007
Time: 12:20:33 PM
User: N/A
Computer: HOTONE
Description:
Generate Activation Context failed for F:\Flight Simulator X\Modules\FSUIPC4.dll. Reference error message: The operation completed successfully.
Seems to happen when I'm switching views but can't pin it down. I doubt that it's an FSUIPC issue but hoping you've seen these before.
Thanx,
Vic

Hmmm - I'll have to look closer at that. I have two old boxes just sitting in a closet ( have 3 that I actually use too :) ) that might just work.
No I'm not a pack rat, just we have to dispose of computer equipment at a hazardous waste center and I just never get the time to drive over there.

As long as there is an explicit mention of support being available, the lack of support would be a breach of contract law known as "failure to perform..."
Guess what Bill. On the product screen in SimMarkets the Support link takes you to .... here!!!
As Helge doesn't actually provide any support would that put him in breach of contract?
A good point, Ray - after all this IS the FS Navigator Support Forum.
I guess we wait a bit more.
One bit of good news though, there was a program for FS9 called FSMM (FS Moving Map) which used sectionals and airport diagram JPG's to provide a real time moving map display along with display of AI aircraft. I never tried it in FS9 because of FSNav but I downloaded and installed same and it works like a charm in FSX. I have it open on a second monitor while I'm flying and it's great. Someone has already converted all the sectionals for the US but I haven't seen any for any other areas. HUGE downloads but worth it, IMHO. Requires FSUIPC. It's available on both Avsim & Flightsim - maybe elsewhere but I didn't check.
Will try it Saturday on a multiplayer flight to see if it picks up MP a/c as well as AI.
No flight planner nor autopilot control but at least a good moving map!

Vic

You are beating a dead horse

Why should someone continually reply to emails whether polite or not.
You are right, he shouldn't have to continually reply... BUT - the point is he hasn't responded to ANY and that comes with the territory. You buy a product and you are entitled to support unless he wants to make it freeware.
-
As one of his first-day customers, I'd probably pay again, but he really should consider getting a front-man to recover his loss of reputability.
Hawg
Sadly, I don't think there's a front man good enough to repair his reputation.
There is absolutely NO EXCUSE - NONE!! - for his continuing to ignore polite requests for *any* information. In addition to Ray, I also have emailed him several times with no response. Considering that there are several developers working on a similar product, he *might* have already lost a great portion of his market.
IMHO, it will all depend on when and IF the new FSNav will be released.
Again - there is no defense for ignoring your customers - NOBODY is that important.
For all we know, Helge might have succumbed to his earlier illness (I certainly hope not!!!) or just decided to dump the project permanently or any one of thousands of other possibilities.
Just MHO,
Vic

Thank you, Pete - will do.

Hi Pete -
I've just built a new system and I'm dual booting XP Pro and Vista, for now. I've installed FSX on it's own drive. I did the install twice in the same location, one for each OS in order to keep the registry settings ok. Seems to work fine. In re FSUIPC - will I also need to do a dual install or can I just copy the data from my old system (FSX Modules) folder to the new FSX install?
Will the dual boot have an effect on the FSUIPC.INI file that I should watch for or should I set FSUIPC to load the specific ini file depending on OS?
Thanx,
Vic

. . . . .I hope that if the devloper is reading this he just takes the few seconds that are needed to tell us all that FS Nav 5 is still in development, not to be concerned and it will come out in the not too distant future that will at least placate most of us to hang on for it!
That would be a major step to getting folks back onboard, yet he hasn't seen fit to enter this thread and it's been ongoing for months.
Couldn't agree more. If he's still alive and well and plans on releasing FSNAV5, Helge is making a big mistake, IMHO. People *will* find a substitute. Realistically, the support for FSNAV prior versions has sucked big time. If it weren't for the loyal community, there would have been no response at all from the developer. Ignore people enough and they get angry, no matter how good the product is.
IMHO, Helge should at the very least, post a progress report or a no progress report if that's the status. He needs to communicate before he completely loses a large portion of his installed base.
Just MHO,
Vic

Phil Taylor's blog instructions for SP1 installation suggest uninstalling all 3rd party add-ons that might install dll's. Shall I assume that this includes FSUIPC along with 3rd party aircraft etc? Also, IIRC, if I do uninstall FSUIPC I should copy my .key file prior to doing same. Correct?
Thanx!

Odd that this first happened about 2 minutes after everything started up okay. Have you got external SimConnect clients starting later?
Negative.
Please download the latest interim release from the FSX downloads above and trying that. Check the Log.
Will do and report back.
Thanx!

Hi Pete -
Just noticed today the FSUIPC 4.06 in FSX is logging data for the flight even though I have nothing checked in the logging tab. I've never had to use it so I don't know if it's been that way since day one or if I accidentally turned it on somewhow. Just took a quick flight and checked - all log options in logging tab unchecked ( Stop button is greyed out ). Completed flight and checked in Modules folder - log file contained :

I hope the mods out there can sticky this, so we can keep this fairly fresh.
As we all now know, FSNav 5 will be released to work with FSX. With that, Helge has put out the call to see what new features we FSNav users would like to see in the new version. Instead of everyone bombarding him with mail that he'd have to manage, I thought we could all post what we'd like to see in the new version and why we'd like to see it here, and give Helge one consolidated message.
So everyone.. What would you like to see in FSNav 5?
BL.
For me, I'd like to see some geographical ID's like major rivers, lakes, landmarks, etc. I'm not looking for google earth quality but some additional info for those who use FSNAV for VFR flight.

Probably a better suggestion is to fly the aircraft not let IT fly you. If your airspeed is too high on approach - SLOW DOWN - period. Many years ago when I learned to fly, I was shooting a crosswind landing with my instructor. Turned 90 deg to base and then tried to turn 90 to final. I was holding a nice, proper 45degree bank angle and watched as I slowly drifted way right of the runway. My CFI basically asked me WTF are you doing? I replied - holding a 45 degree bank. He took over and put the plane down safely. Needless to say, he reamed me well about not flying the a/c. You do *whatever* it takes to get down safely. If you don't like what the a/p is doing - turn it off!
I got the point and have never forgotten it - and it has saved my neck on more than one occasion IRL.
HTH,

Juat FWIW, I have a 6800 PCIx card and have the same issues in full screen. If I load FSNAV initially in windowed mode, it's instantaneous. I set it up, etc and switch to full screen ( 3d) mode and from then on - it's fine.

Thanx for clearing that up . Pete. Must've had a senior moment. Hope all is well with you!

Am I losing it or did I originally read that FSUIPC v3.xx was ONLY for FS2004? I see in the docs that it's backward compatible with FS2002, etc. Is this correct?

PMFJI but in case Pete has gone to bed for the night - you need to be in a flight - you are at the opening screens - just click FREE FLIGHT and then click the FLY NOW button - you will see the menu bar (or press ALT) - the menu selection for Add-Ons is at the extreme right.
