  1. Hi Pete -

On occasion I'm getting a system hang or CTD and the event viewer shows the following messages. Can you shed any light on this?

    First error:

    Event Type: Error

    Event Source: SideBySide

    Event Category: None

    Event ID: 32

    Date: 10/14/2007

    Time: 12:20:33 PM

    Description:

Dependent Assembly Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect could not be found and Last Error was The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

    followed by this:

    Event Type: Error

    Event Source: SideBySide

    Event Category: None

    Event ID: 59

    Date: 10/14/2007

    Time: 12:20:33 PM

    Description:

Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect . Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

    and finally:

    Event Type: Error

    Event Source: SideBySide

    Event Category: None

    Event ID: 59

    Date: 10/14/2007

    Time: 12:20:33 PM

    User: N/A

    Computer: HOTONE

    Description:

Generate Activation Context failed for F:\Flight Simulator X\Modules\FSUIPC4.dll. Reference error message: The operation completed successfully.

Seems to happen when I'm switching views but can't pin it down. I doubt that it's an FSUIPC issue but hoping you've seen these before.

    Thanx,

    Vic

  2. As long as there is an explicit mention of support being available, the lack of support would be a breach of contract law known as "failure to perform..."

Guess what Bill. On the product screen in SimMarkets the Support link takes you to .... here!!!

As Helge doesn't actually provide any support would that put him in breach of contract?

A good point, Ray - after all this IS the FS Navigator Support Forum.

I guess we wait a bit more.

One bit of good news though, there was a program for FS9 called FSMM (FS Moving Map) which used sectionals and airport diagram JPG's to provide a real time moving map display along with display of AI aircraft. I never tried it in FS9 because of FSNav but I downloaded and installed same and it works like a charm in FSX. I have it open on a second monitor while I'm flying and it's great. Someone has already converted all the sectionals for the US but I haven't seen any for any other areas. HUGE downloads but worth it, IMHO. Requires FSUIPC. It's available on both Avsim & Flightsim - maybe elsewhere but I didn't check.

Will try it Saturday on a multiplayer flight to see if it picks up MP a/c as well as AI.

No flight planner nor autopilot control but at least a good moving map!

    Regards,

    Vic

  3. As one of his first-day customers, I'd probably pay again, but he really should consider getting a front-man to recover his loss of reputability.

    Hawg

Sadly, I don't think there's a front man good enough to repair his reputation.

There is absolutely NO EXCUSE - NONE!! - for his continuing to ignore polite requests for *any* information. In addition to Ray, I also have emailed him several times with no response. Considering that there are several developers working on a similar product, he *might* have already lost a great portion of his market.

IMHO, it will all depend on when and IF the new FSNav will be released.

Again - there is no defense for ignoring your customers - NOBODY is that important.

For all we know, Helge might have succumbed to his earlier illness (I certainly hope not!!!) or just decided to dump the project permanently or any one of thousands of other possibilities.

    Just MHO,

    Vic

  4. Hi Pete -

I've just built a new system and I'm dual booting XP Pro and Vista, for now. I've installed FSX on it's own drive. I did the install twice in the same location, one for each OS in order to keep the registry settings ok. Seems to work fine. In re FSUIPC - will I also need to do a dual install or can I just copy the data from my old system (FSX Modules) folder to the new FSX install?

Will the dual boot have an effect on the FSUIPC.INI file that I should watch for or should I set FSUIPC to load the specific ini file depending on OS?

    Thanx,

    Vic

  5. . . . . .I hope that if the devloper is reading this he just takes the few seconds that are needed to tell us all that FS Nav 5 is still in development, not to be concerned and it will come out in the not too distant future that will at least placate most of us to hang on for it!

That would be a major step to getting folks back onboard, yet he hasn't seen fit to enter this thread and it's been ongoing for months.

Couldn't agree more. If he's still alive and well and plans on releasing FSNAV5, Helge is making a big mistake, IMHO. People *will* find a substitute. Realistically, the support for FSNAV prior versions has sucked big time. If it weren't for the loyal community, there would have been no response at all from the developer. Ignore people enough and they get angry, no matter how good the product is.

IMHO, Helge should at the very least, post a progress report or a no progress report if that's the status. He needs to communicate before he completely loses a large portion of his installed base.

    Just MHO,

    Vic

  7. Hi Pete -

Just noticed today the FSUIPC 4.06 in FSX is logging data for the flight even though I have nothing checked in the logging tab. I've never had to use it so I don't know if it's been that way since day one or if I accidentally turned it on somewhow. Just took a quick flight and checked - all log options in logging tab unchecked ( Stop button is greyed out ). Completed flight and checked in Modules folder - log file contained :

    Is this normal?

    Thanx,

  8. I hope the mods out there can sticky this, so we can keep this fairly fresh.

As we all now know, FSNav 5 will be released to work with FSX. With that, Helge has put out the call to see what new features we FSNav users would like to see in the new version. Instead of everyone bombarding him with mail that he'd have to manage, I thought we could all post what we'd like to see in the new version and why we'd like to see it here, and give Helge one consolidated message.

So everyone.. What would you like to see in FSNav 5?

    BL.

For me, I'd like to see some geographical ID's like major rivers, lakes, landmarks, etc. I'm not looking for google earth quality but some additional info for those who use FSNAV for VFR flight.

    Vic

  9. Probably a better suggestion is to fly the aircraft not let IT fly you. If your airspeed is too high on approach - SLOW DOWN - period. Many years ago when I learned to fly, I was shooting a crosswind landing with my instructor. Turned 90 deg to base and then tried to turn 90 to final. I was holding a nice, proper 45degree bank angle and watched as I slowly drifted way right of the runway. My CFI basically asked me WTF are you doing? I replied - holding a 45 degree bank. He took over and put the plane down safely. Needless to say, he reamed me well about not flying the a/c. You do *whatever* it takes to get down safely. If you don't like what the a/p is doing - turn it off!

I got the point and have never forgotten it - and it has saved my neck on more than one occasion IRL.

    HTH,

    Vic
