As you suspected, there was no FSUIPC4.log for me to find in the modules folder. So, acting on the advice in your various stickies on the forum, i did the following:
1. Deleted the original sim connect folder (but left intact the SPI version).
2. Ran the repair utility from the FSX disk.
3. Booted FSX - found add ons menu had returned.
4. Registered FSUIPC4

What I cannot tell is if the repair function unwound some of the improvements generated by SP1. Will find out in due course.
I am not sure if my experience throws any more light on the issue. Please let me know if you want any further information.
