Complete list of my North America files

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

so here's a current list of my North American freeware files compatible with FS2004. I've grouped them into sections based on whether you're using Ultimate Terrain, add-on mesh, or some of our payware packages. All files are available at Avsim but most also at Flightsim, simviation, Hovercontrol, WSP - http://www.wspilots.com/index.php?page=&cat_id=30 - and (sigh!) your favorite file leeching sites.

First off, don't fix it if it ain't broken! If you already have some or all of my landscape/mesh packages installed and you don't see any issues, like double shorelines etc., then there's no need for action!

Second, this list is not a substitute for the instructions. Please read the instructions for each package and follow them carefully.

Third, if you're installing from scratch, please install one package at a time then do a couple of flights in the area to check whether the installation went OK. If you install all at once then finding mistakes will be much more difficult.

Fourth, if the folders from different packages have the same name, like "BC-AB scenery upgrades FS2004", then you can combine their contents into that folder. In general, though, I suggest to install each package with its own entry in the scenery library; makes "servicing" later much easier.

Finally, I always refer to the Scenery Library menu in FS (Settings > Scenery Library), not the scenery.cfg. Thus, if the instructions talk about "above" or "below" it means the position in the list of entries in the library menu.

---------------------------------

A. You don't have any terrain mesh for British Columbia

-> these packages contain terrain mesh only, no other landscape enhancements. Use them in addition to the packages in the other groups below if you don't have any other mesh coverage. I actually recommend the FS Genesis "Cordillera" LOD10 (38-m) files, available for US$ 11.95 at http://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/mercCode=38DEM - if you excuse the plug ;-)

bcmesh7a.zip to bcmesh7d.zip (four packages) - LOD7 (300-m) terrain mesh of the entire province

bcmesh9a.zip and bcmesh9c.zip - LOD9 (76-m) terrain mesh of the Lower Mainland and Lillooet-Thompson Region

-> don't use bcmesh9b.zip as it is included in a better version in bcmeshp2.zip

bcmeshp1.zip - optional lake elevation and airfield flatten files for LOD7 and LOD9 mesh files

-> this is a bit tricky if you also install newer packages like bcmesh9d.zip and bcmesh9e.zip. Please read the instructions of those newer packages carefully to disable the flatten files no longer needed.

sebclod9.zip - Southern Canadian Rockies LOD9 (76-m) terrain mesh

-> replaces the mesh files included in bcmesh9d.zip and bcmesh9e.zip (but you still want those two for the landscape enhancements, like accurate rivers and lakes)

---------------------------------

B. You don't have either Ultimate Terrain package (USA or Canada/Alaska) installed

bcmesh9d.zip - Southeastern British Columbia

bcmesh9e.zip - Southern Rockies of British Columbia and Alberta

bcmeshp2.zip - Glacier National Park and Kootenay, Selkirk, and Monashee mountains

glbayv2a.zip, glbayv2b.zip - Glacier Bay National Park and Juneau to Yakutat area, Southeast Alaska, and adjacent Canadian regions

bc_bella.zip - Bella Coola Valley on British Columbia's Midcoast

us_wa_nc.zip - North Cascades Mountains and Northwest Washington Coast

cr_gorge.zip - Columbia River Gorge and Cascade Volcanoes, Washington & Oregon

if you also own FlightZone's Portland add-on, please see the thread in this forum for patches: viewtopic.php?f=231&t=75470

-> if you experience issues with you GoTo Airport menu after installation please see this thread: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=_id=240404

-> if you are using the Silver Wings ground replacement textures please download this patch file - http://hsandmann.com/files/patches/SWCRTD_fix.zip - and follow the instructions

gorge_ai.zip - optional boat, helicopter, and floatplane AI traffic for cr_gorge.zip

crg_upd1.zip - required updates and patches for cr_gorge.zip (with new objects by Larry Silsbee)

vicenh06.zip - Victoria, B.C., and Region (project leader is Jon Patch)

ut_bc_hs.zip - combines the UT compatible parts of my landscape enhancements for the Canadian Rockies, southern B.C., Bella Coola, North Cascades, and Glacier Bay N.P. in Southeast Alaska

-> please download the updated version of the batch files here - http://hsandmann.com/files/patches/SEBChold_v3.zip - and use those instead

glbayv2a.zip, glbayv2b.zip - Glacier Bay National Park and Juneau to Yakutat area, Southeast Alaska, and adjacent Canadian regions

-> you need to remove some of the files contained in ut_bc_hs.zip; please see Glacier Bay v2 manual, page 18.

cr_gorge.zip - Columbia River Gorge and Cascade Volcanoes, Washington & Oregon

if you also own FlightZone's Portland add-on, please see the thread in this forum for patches: viewtopic.php?f=231&t=75470

vicenh06.zip - Victoria, B.C., and Region (project leader is Jon Patch)

---------------------------------

F. You have Misty Fjords installed

-> pick the appropriate group of files above depending on whether you have Ultimate Terrain USA or Canada/Alaska or not. If you're using UT Canada/Alaska please make sure that you download and install the compatibility update file available here: http://www.fsaddon.com/products/product_misty.htm

---------------------------------

G. You have Vancouver+ installed

-> pick the appropriate group of files above depending on whether you have Ultimate Terrain USA or Canada/Alaska or not, except please don't install us_wa_nc.zip "North Cascades" and use us_nc_vp.zip instead. Further, you don't need to install the terrain mesh file bcmesh9c.zip though doing so won't create problems.

---------------------------------

H. You have Freight Dogs installed

-> pick the appropriate group of files above depending on whether you have Ultimate Terrain USA or Canada/Alaska or not.

-> if you do have UT Canada/Alaska please do the following: in your FS9\Scenery\Namw\scenery folder, check for files named HP912110a.bgl, HP912110b.bgl, HP913120a.bgl and HP913120b.bgl. If you see one or more, rename their extension to *.bgl.bak to remove duplicate shorelines.

---------------------------------

Hope this helps!

Let me know if the ordering is confusing and I can make adjustments. Also, I will update this page if new files or patches become available.

Cheers, Holger

Quick question.

I do have UT Canada and USA (and Misty, Tongass and Vancouver, as well as Victoria).

Reading the explanations above, if I don't have UT I should install GL Bay.

Is GL Bay incompatible with UT? UT does not include Mesh at all, only Landclass.

Hi there,

The original Glacier Bay (gl_bay_1.zip) includes roads, shorelines, water bodies, and other elements that are incompatible with Ultimate Terrain Canada/Alaska.

If you want to use those elements of Glacier Bay that are compatible with UT (primarily glaciers and detailed land class) then please use ut_bc_hs.zip instead, which includes the Glacier Bay area.

If you don't have a high-resolution mesh for the Glacier Bay area (e.g., FS Genesis, FS Global or Raimondo Taburet) then you can also install the separate mesh file, gl_bay_2.zip.

Cheers, Holger

Hi Holger,

When I installed ut_bc_hs.zip as per your instructions, the SEBCHold SouthEast BC install only installed one HP9 files and not three as stated in the read me.

Also, I'm unable to get mt hands on a copy of Lars Hoyer's CZNL.zip. ( Nelson B.C. ) Might you be able to help me get it?

Thanxs.

Cheers,

Pierre.

Hi Pierre,

if only one HP file showed up in SEBChold it probably just means that the other two already were deactivated by another add-on. Unless you notice any duplicate shorelines or water bodies you should be fine.

It seems as if Lars' CZNL isn't available anymore at the original URL. I suggest asking in the VIVA forum - http://www.vanisleva.com/index.php - because I know that Lars is a member.

Cheers, Holger

I have an old UT & Misty compatibility update that does not work properly. The post at the top of this thread tells me to go here for the current version:

http://www.fsaddon.com/products/product_misty.htm

There is no download link at that location. Does anyone know where to get the UT & Misty compatibility update? Would love to get Misty working again.

Thanks

Holger - I just installed Freight Dogs and am now seeing double shorelines. In section H for Freight Dogs in your original post you say:

"-> if you do have UT Canada/Alaska please do the following: in your FS9\Scenery\Namw\scenery folder, check for files named HP91211a.bgl, HP91211b.bgl, HP913120a.bgl and HP913120b.bgl. If you see one or more, rename their extension to *.bgl.bak to remove duplicate shorelines. "

Did you really mean the 5 digit HP91211a & b? I find no 5 digit files - did you by any chance mean HP912110?

Cheers - Thud

Hi Holger

After a dead hard drive I am installing FS9 again. This time around I bought the complete FS9 mesh package from FSGenesis. I would like to put back your bcmesh9d & e. Will there be any conflicts? I have Vancouver1.1+ installed and I see bcmesh9d&e should be above Van1.1+.

Can I add everything in bcmesh9d&e and just leave out the mesh? I know I want the lake corrections as the dam/water looks crazy now. :-)

Thanks

CK

Hi Ken,

that's correct, go ahead and install bcmesh9d.zip, bcmesh9e.zip, and bcmeshp2.zip as per instructions. You can leave the mesh files in but if you want the HD space gain just remove all .bgl files that start with "mesh" from the "BC-AB LOD9 terrain mesh\scenery" folder.

Cheers, Holger

Hi Ken,

please do a Windows search for files that have "HP916140" as part of their name. I need to see the full name and path for each file; a screenshot of the search window would work. It looks as if the default shoreline file got removed properly but the default water polygon file is still active.

Cheers, Holger
