starting a new MyTraffic2006 database

For testing purposes, I would like to start with a clean, no data MyTraffic database. The one area of data that I need to import is the country data. Is there a way to add or import that data? I'm almost afraid that there is no way to extract the data from the out-of-box MyTraffic database so that I can import it into another.

Thanks for any feedback!

Oh god, yes, I have to look up how I entered these, it is so long ago, 3 years in software are like 50 years in human life and 3 centuries in history.

There are more data with structure in the database, so maybe a clear all aircrafts, airports, preferences and schedules button is safer to do, I will investigate.

Thanks for checking this out for me. Some kind of "clear" option would be great if it's possible to do so. I guess if I really have to, I will just have to work off of the out-of-box database somehow even though it would be nice to be able to clear out all of the existing aircraft. Thanks again :)

Hi, yes, the delete all aircraft files is simple to add, any more wishes?

I tried with a "new" database yesterday, but ran into several problems. While it can be made workable again, contrary to the FS2002 solution which exported the airport names and countries, this is not featured by the DUMP airports facility. So this list in the existing database mainly originates from the FS2002 list, manually extended thousands of times during the last years...

thanks for checking that out... let me guess, I will have to wait for the next version of MyTraffic for this new function? I do have one other wishlist item which hopefully can be included somehow. This one particular feature is driving me nuts actually. I noticed that with all of the pop-up edit windows (e.g. whenever you want to edit an aircraft or airport, etc.)... you cannot select multiple items for a delete or a remove. It would be nice to have the standard windows feature in this case where you can select multiple items by holding down the key and mouse clicking all of the items you would like to select, or the key to group together an entire segment of items. Well, maybe it's just a wish item but it would sure make things faster vs. having to delete items one by one, which by the way after having deleted a single item, the focus returns to the top of whatever list you are manipulating causing you to scroll down to find out where you left off. Cheers :)

Too late, I added the deletion of all airports to the info maintenance dialog, you can download the new exec from http://www.fsrail.com/MyTraffic2006exe.zip. Should name no other harm.

On the other request, this is not supported by the development tool I use, so would require a complete redesign of the exec. This may happen in some future, but definitvely not before we know about the programming requirements for Vista and can drop XP, W2000 and W9x support.

So if you know other items were you need a delete all, let me know.

Deletion of any data is something that I find too strange to understand - I never did so unlees I made a last minute nonsense and want to undo that, but even than always I tend to go to the last saved copy. Data are either wrong, than they need to be corrected or ignored, or they are correct, than deleting them is like killing a good friend. Since creating object A in computing, than B, than deleting A, never is the same than creating B alone, I have taken this attitude to avoid any deletions ( but a complete clear).

If as example I do not want an aircraft to be used, I uncheck the use in MyTraffic field, but never delete it. So please tell me your needs and I can add what you need as functions if possible.

wow, thanks for providing a new .exe for this. I wasn't able to download the zip file from the link you provided, can you check it for me? You mentioned it would provide a delete for all airports. I would be very interested to have a delete option for all of the aircraft (all variations + registrations). This would be most beneficial for my testing. What do you think? Would it be easy to include? Thanks so much :)

Oooops, looks like we now lost the capability to remove an airline.. the Remove button is gone from the Edit Airlines pop-up. Is it possible to get that back in? Or even better, add a clear all option in the maintenance dialog for removing all airports?

Thanks Burk

OK, I will add some more clear alls ;-) Careful with the airlines though, and again an example of what I said.

Airlines are linked to in the preferences, in the types, and most nasty in the country pref data, maybe still in more. If you delete it, you cannot be sure what those things are doing, pointing into Nirwana.

Again, what kind of test do you want to do, I cannot imagine any that makes deletion of American Airlines a meeingful thing but the "service" experience I had with them twice in my life. Maybe a "Delete all autogeneration checks" check is what you really want?

thanks Burk, I appreciate the help.. don't worry, I am aware of all the different connections involved between all of the MyTraffic areas so I don't think I will have any problems with missing links/pointers, etc. I just happen to like a clean slate when I am testing things
