Sorry but I do not know how to zip or unzip but there are no planes at any airport. When I tried to modify the dll.xml I could not use the notepad as it shows a great deal of information but not the one you show in the instructions nor in the form you show. I can add it using the xml but although the add on info shows at the bottom of the word file I don't think it is really there as there is no tools in the in flight menu. I think the cfg. file is ok and my traffic is added to the scenery in fsx.

So there are two problems to solve:

a) you have no AI traffic

b) you do not see the traffic toolbox

For b), just cpoy and paste your dll.xml ( the eone in your user profile ) into your replay so that we can check if there is any contradicting info, as example a traffictoolbox disabled true state.

For a), let us go through the usual check list.

a) All the aircrafts folders have been created below \MyTraffic\aircraft, together more than 3 GB?

b) \MyTraffic\scenery contains about 150MB, including the large schedule file like MyTafficline.bgl?

c) Choosing ETAR as your location, FSX offers you a military parking position to start with?

d) You have no AI traffic at all, or some sparse AI traffic using the MS supplied stock planes, like the Maule, the Cessna?

If the answer tp d) is yes, some GA to the last, than the problem is in FSX.cfg. If no AI traffic at all, than you have most likely AI schedules in FS8 format installed, which prohibit the FSX traffic to show up.

That does not look like a valid dll.xml file at all - whatever has happened to it. Most liens are not in any valid FSX syntax if you did not completely abbreviate it.

What I see in addition is that you have a second traffictoolbox entry, you should have one only. If you have FSX de luxe edition and the SDK installed and updated, you can also use the traffic toolbox as descibed in the SDK manual.

I am deeply sorry but I am computer illiterate and do no understand all that you have requested. For instance you ask about an airport that I do not know where it exists ...what country state etc. As to checking how big files are ....you got me there....now you talk about two dll and something call sdx or something

I just found out from a friend about sdk and that I have to update this. Now I have to have him come over to do this as it has something to do with reaching out on disk 1 of fsx to get the original sdk so I can update this to the new sdk......great heavens isn't there any way to just exe this traffic upgrade////I guess not. But keep this in mind, if yu wish to help and I hope you do, you have to tell me now only what to do but how to accomplish it....i.e., go to cfg, then to my traffic folder, then xxxxxxx. Maybe this is asking too much but I hope not.

Hm - we have worked about 100 hours to create the installation manuals that you have on your disk - these contain all the information that you require.

The short installation manual, that already popped up during the install, can be found can be found again under \MyTraffic\Manual\install.htm.

A more detailed one, that gives you further options, background understanding and trouble shooting, is \MyTraffic\Manual\MyTraffic_X_Installation_Details.htm .

There is no way to explain things better than in these elaborated documents.

If there still is a residual problem, we can help you here.

If you have MyTraffic 5.1 installed, the following XML file will get the traffic toolbox running:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>

Launch

dll.xml

False

False

Traffic Toolbox

False

False

MyTraffic\traffictoolbox.dll

In your case, it looks like you have more items adressed in this file, so I cannot just give you mine, but you have to maintain it. This gets done best using notepad. Just right click to the file, select open with and select notepad, that will work. Also feel free to attach a copy here for us so that we can modify it for you - but not knowing what you have on disk we cannot create one for you without your input.

You posted ( in the second post of your message ) a file that contains some information, but as you posted it here is no valid xml file.

I tried to compile this information into a valid format file. I attach this attempt here, it may well solve your problem, but without more input I'm partially blind, so make a copy of the original one first.

Hi Raymond, no traffic and the dll.xml can be considered 2 seperate issues. The dll.xml doesn't have to function to see MyTraffic's AI at airports. I'ld suggest to sort the 'no traffic bit' first before sorting the xml.

So, a couple of questions:

- Which operating system are you using?

- Which MyTraffic version were you trying to install?

- How large is the MyTraffic folder?

- Did you use other AI addons prior to installing MyTrafficX?

Cheers and kind regards

Jaap

\MyTraffic\Manual\MyTraffic_X_Installation_Details.htm is a file installed onto your hard disk, where stands for the installation path of FSX that you have chosen during installation.

Every folder structure containing \ is a file system folder - folders on web pages are witten with a / .

Hi Raymond, thanks for that.

I forgot to ask where FSX and MyTraffic are installed? Also, which size is the scenery folder in the MyTraffic directory?

It would help if you either attach or post your fsx.cfg plus the scenery.cfg from the 'All Users' folder. With these details we should be able to fix the missing traffic fairly quickly.

Thanks and kind regards

to get to the cfg files I go program files/microsoft games/microsoft flight simulator x

There we got it. FSX ignores completely the configuration files in its own folders, contrary to all previous versions. You really have to identify your user profile folder, %appdata%, and the configuration files in there.

If you include the line

SimObjectPaths.6=MyTraffic\aircraft

into the FSX.cfg that you find there like you did in the unused copy, it will take effect.

Since you did not answer the checklist I sent on Thursday, I cannot predict if this will be sufficient, but as described in both manuals it is necessary to identify the FSX configuration in your user profiles.

Link to post

Hi Raymond, case %appdata% is too complicated, we concretely need the fsx.cfg from C:\Documents and Settings\'Your_User_Name'\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\

We also need the scenery.cfg from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\

The scenery.cfg normally has roughly 120 entries.

Should the requested files be hidden you might need to unhide some hidden files and folders.

Directly from WinXP's Help and Support Center:

To display hidden files and folders:

- Open Folder Options in Control Panel.

- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Folder Options

- On the View tab, under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.

Notes

- Hidden files and folders will appear dimmed to indicate they are not typical items. Usually, hidden files are program or system files that should not be deleted or changed. To display other hidden files, clear the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) check box.

- If you know the name of a hidden file or folder, you can search for it. For more information, click Related Topics.

- If you want to see all file name extensions, clear the 'Hide file extensions for known file types' check box.

Cheers and kind regards

Jaap

MR. BURKHARD: I am very sorry to tell you that I have no idea what your kind attempt to help me means. You speak of an unused copy...Idon't know what that is and what it should do even if I found one If I did not respond it was because I did not understand what you were requesting.

MR. BAKSTEEN: Much as my reply to Mr. Burkhard, I am afraid I am totally lost. I went to the fsx config via the owner/application/ etc. and found it had the line re: sim 6 right after the sim 5 where everyone says the line should be added. I really don't understand what scenery info we are looking for. I sent everyone a copy of my config file that I found by using the above path and the scenery file using the program file/microsoft games/ etc route. After all of this, I am totally lost.

Hi Raymond, we'll get there. ;-) The fsx.cfg did look ok, only the path you mentioned sounded a bit awkward at first. But lets assume that part's ok.

The scenery.cfg we're looking for is ca 120 entries long. The one you posted earlier had roughly 30 entires. To access the file, you'll need to unhide a couple of files in the operating system. I made a couple of screenshots. First one is showing the window with red pointers to the options you need to modify. The second pic shows the path of the scenery.cfg in the 'All Users' directory.

If necessary, please refer to my previous post for more details regarding unhiding files and folders.

Hope this helps, thanks and kind regards

OK, let us try to make a longer writup of what you should do inside FSX to isolate your problem with not seeing the traffic. Only one step at a time so that we really can identify the problem.

Start FSX. You than come to a screen called "Free flight" that allows you to CHANGE the current location, from which airport to start with which aircraft at which time of day. So press on CHANGE and you get the screen to select the airport. In the Field airport ID please type in ETAR - that is Ramstein Airbase that gets selected now, you can also select that airport by other means if you prefer. Once ETAR is selected, in the lower right field "Choose runway/starting position" - do you get the choice of parkings of military type now, as example Gate 2 - Ramp mil cargo?

If you do so, than the scenery MyTraffic has been added correctly, if not, it hasn't, that is the first check we make. Please report your findings, I hope it is clear how to do it.

If this turned out to be answered by a YES, so if ETAR is equipped with military parkings, than please place yourself to nearby EDFE airfield at daylight, and press fly now this times. Once you are there, look around carefully, and taxi towards the little tower. Do you see some GA aircraft parked around you, Pipers, Cessna, Beech, etc?

Depending on these two answers, we can continue to isolate the problem.

(Edit: We could do the same procedure with hundreds of airports, these just are well tested examples that are on the checklist.)

Hi Raymond, that's awkward because the scenery.cfg you posted doesn't show a MyTraffic entry... Anyway, looks like it's working since you have traffic in ETAR. I didn't quite get the last bit, are aircraft piled on top of eachother? If so we'll send in the mechanics. :-)

Case you have further questions, please don't hesitate.

Kind regards

Jaap
