Hot news for using STB on a remote computer

Recommended Posts

Our friend simpilot had some troubles setting up simconnect to work over a network so STB could be used on a separate computer from FSX. Like a few other people have found it did not go well, as this little piece of Microsoft architecture can be a little challenging at times. However over on Avsim the question was asked how to do this, and Pete Dowson made the interesting suggesion of specifiying the windows computer name rather than IP addresses in the two configuration files.

This has a couple of advantages,

- It worked for Simpilot where as IP addresses had not!

- It's a bit easier to understand

- If you use DHCP to allocate dynamic IP addresses, you never need to worry about those addresses changing.

I'll attach some sample files to illustrate the technique
