CAN WideFS Improve FSX Performance?

Recommended Posts

At present I have only FSCommander on the WideFS PC. On the FSX PC I have REX, GEX, ASE, FEX, Ultimate Traffic and Terrain, and a few others. Would it improve FSX performance to move some of these programs over to the WideFS computer? WideFS has been in use for only a month and really like the way it works with FSCommander.

Hi,

ASE does not use WideFS for FSX, but uses SimConnect.

GEX is run once and does not run while FSX is running. That is a texture program. The same with FEX. Ult. Terrain is the same way. If you are just using REX for textures then that is the same. U Traffic must be kept on the FSX computer.

Only moving programs that are actually running at the same time as FSX is running can help.

So basically the only thing from your list is ASE and that doesn't use WideFS.

Thanks Jim: I did know about ASE, dunno why I listed it. I did not know about the others though.

How about Its Your Plane, FS2Crew (with J41), and Radar Contact? I completely forgot them and they are used a lot.. Any suggestions about using WideSF will be appreciated. It is really nice to be able to track a flight on FSCommander or Plan g using a separate PC.

Regards

I use both Its Your Plane and Radar Contact on a WideFS client. I find both much more responsive that way, and you have the additional benefit of a separate sound system for them -- e.g. for a headset and/or overhead speakers.

I don't know about FS2Crew though. Perhaps their documentation, or support forum, might tell you?

Regards

Pete
