Problem registering WideFS

Recommended Posts

Sorry to bother you, but I am doing something wrong; but I don't know what I am doing wrong.

Yesterday I purchased a key for WideFS 6.78.

I already had a key for FSUIPC 3.99.

I followed the installation procedure in order to register both programs (originally I tried to register WideFS only, with same result as below).

First FSUIPC, sucessful, thank you for your registration (or some similar phrase)

Then WideFS, successful, thank you for your registration.

But when I start FS9, it says on top of the screen that WideFS cannot act as a server.

The log says: quote 70512 WideFS cannot be used until it is Registered through FSUIPC (version 3.44 or later) unquote

What did I do wrong?

Thanks, Ronald

What version of FSUIPC are you using, please? Show me the FSUIPC log.

Are you Mr. Haak? If so you appear to have two valid FSUIPC3 registrations, one from 2005 with a different email, and one from February this year with the same email as your WideFS registration. Maybe you have the FSUIPC ones mixed up?

Following on from your private message:

This is a bug caused by some recent Windows updates. Please go to the Download Links subforum and read the update notes there. I think you'll be okay if you use 3.991 instead of 3.99. It is always a good idea to check for updates there before reporting a problem which may be already fixed.

Since I have your attention now, hopefully you will allow me another question about your Autosave. When I use it, i find myself flying, in the air as before. Unfortunately the aircraft appears to be in a cold and dark situation which is not helpful for a recovery. How can I change that.

All AutoSave does is call on FS to save the flight, exactly as if you saved it via the Menu or using the ";" key. And you reload it as usual. It has nothing to do with anything inside any of the files saved. If you are using complex add-ons with their own systems then they may need to save their own files too and reload them. I think many do, maybe you are using one which doesn't? With Project Magenta systems it depends on FSUIPC offsets, so I use the facilities to always save IPC data (in miscellaneous options) and the Load flight+data menu option.

Regards

Pete

Regarding Autosave, that sounds very complicated. I'll take some time to digest that.

Er ... the main question is, what aircraft is it you are using, or what external avionics if so, which loses all of its settings rather than includes them in the saved flight files? None of the default aircraft do that -- none save in live flight mode and load back "cold and dark", so it must be a function of whatever you are using instead.

Please don't start venturing into areas like FSUIPC offset data saving for no reason (which I think may only apply to FSX in any case. I don't remember offhand -- it's a long time since I used FS9).

Tell me why you are losing settings -- as you presumably would if you saved your flights manually and reloaded them. All I'm saying is that all AutoSave does is automatically call the FS save flight routine. That's not really complicated ...?

I just performed some tests.

First I took off with my PMDG738. In stable flight I gave sudden death (upper right cross) to FS9. After that I started FS9 again, selected the last autosave flight and found the aircraft in a relative safe condition. Some switches were in a different position e.g. gear handle, center tank fuel pumps, speed director at zero, but in fact one could continue the flight. I did the same using the ";" key, with same result.

After that I did the same test with the Eaglesoft Citation X. Here I ended up with a solid C&D aircraft. So you are right (no surprise) that it is aircraft specific.

Ronald

Seems that the Eaglesoft one does not automatically detect you saving a flight and also save its own data. Does it have a facility for saving in a menu somewhere, or do you always have to start it C & D?

Given some time and assistance everything can be solved, isn't it?

The citation has an option to start ready to go or c&d as an alternative. This time I started ready to go and guess.....

After the crash I loaded the last Autosave and the aircraft was in a more or less flyable state.

It was an interesting and useful day.

The lesson: if you suffer from crashes do use Autosave and do not start cold and dark (at least with some aircraft).

Thanks again Pete !!

Ronald
