world air simulation

Dear Pete:

I have a copy of World Air Simulation's EFIS 2000 Navdata? I purchased it from a vendor on ebay. It is the Airbus A320 EFIS system and is suppose to be able to be run with Microsoft FS 2000 or FS98. I cannot seem to get it to run. The company no longer exists and there is no tech support. Your name is mentioned in the forward of the manual and I thought you may know something about the program. I bought this program last year when I was on the Boeing 757/767. I loaded it when I first got it and if my memory serves me it ran on either FS98 or 2000 but I did not use it because it was nothing like the Boeing EFIS. I am currently in training at Denver for the Airbus A319/320, and I am trying to get the program up and running. I am wondering if the problem is the program is not compatible with windows XP.

I would appreciate any help.

Mike

This is basically Chris Brett's EFIS98 program, as released for FS98 originally, with some updated data I think. It is probably compatible with FS98 through FS6IPC and FS2000 through FS6IPC as well.

In order to make it run with FS2000, FS2002 or FS2004 through FSUIPC you have to install it as if it it running on FS98. I don't remember the details now, sorry -- I haven't actually used it for about three or four years. Interestingly it was the program which got me to write WideFS, so I could place its ND screen on a separate PC.

Chris sometimes looks in here and should be able to help, although I think the version you purchased may have been one on which he was in dispute with the publishers. Other erstwhile users may be able to chip in too, but I don't think you'll get any guarantees. It was several years old when Papa Tango re-packaged it.

Regards,

Pete

Ah yes, EFIS98, I remember it well :) , in fact I still have my copy, along with a load of other FS98 stuff

As Pete says it should run OK via FSUIPC by selecting FS98 as the flight Sim version, but like Pete it is a long time since I used it although I seem to remember that selecting the correct FS version was no big deal.

Don't be too worried about the original publisher going out of business and therefore no tech support, you wouldn't have got any when they were in business

IIRC I think you can still get current navdata for it from Richard's site.

Best of luck with getting it running.

Thank you Pete and Vulcan for your response:

Vulcan, I am not sure what "FSUIPC" is. I have windows XP PRO and I am wondering if that software is not compatible with XP. Do you have windows XP, and if so would you be willing to see if your EFIS 98 ran on that operating system?

Thank you.

FSUIPC is the interface module for Flight Simulator which programs like your EFIS uses. It needs installing first. You can get it from http://www.schiratti.com/dowson. Please look at the User Guide inside the ZIP>

FSUIPC is most certainly compatible with XP Pro, and also XP Home, Win2000, and Win98 (and, yes, even the ill-fated WinMe). It is not compatible with Windows NT, that's all.

EFIS is an application program which should be completely operating system independent as far as I can see. I really doubt whether it uses any techniques liable to render it sensitive to O/S changes, but since it is several years old there's no guarantees I'm afraid.

Pete

Hi Mike,

I'm sorry I can't help with installation.

I have my copy but when installing it asks for a serial number which I don't have and I cannot remember after all these years if it came by e-mail or if it should be on the CD jewel case. If the latter then I have swapped jewel cases because there is no serial number on the case that contains EFIS.

Having said all that I would go along with Pete in the assumption that it should work with any OS but you will need Pete's excellent FSUIPC.

If you do problems installing EFIS come back, between us we may be able drag up the details from the dim and distant past of how to do it :)

A bit like going back to DOS after all this time
