Having FSX and P3D and MyTraffic on one SSD - save SSD disk space.

Recommended Posts

After I finished 5.4b I now moved FSX and P3D both onto a 128 GB SSD. The speedup in loading is enourmous, and all stutters are gone.

Of course, having FSX and P3D installed on the SSD, and two MyTraffic installations, fills the precious GB of the SSD. I did the following:

in P3D.cfg, I pointed to the FSX\MyTraffic\aircraft folder instead of the one in P3D\Mytraffic. Then I deleted the folder P3D\MyTraffic\aircraft - 9.5 GB saved. Next, I used the NTFS file compression on the FSX\MyTraffic\aircraft folder - and it went down to 2.68 GB. No impact on loading times or texture loading - any I5 or I7 is fast enough to decompress the small files on the fly, and 16 GB of SSD space could be saved.

I recommend to proceed as above, install MyTraffic to the FSX folder, then move the aircraft folder out and adjust the FSX.cfg.

Just do not forget to move it back before you run any patches or updates.

Reason is that MS did not recommend nor does support any scenery outside the FSX folder, this is not intended and has never been tested. It may work, but if it doesn't nobody can care.
