Fs9 can't Read FSUIPC.dll

Recommended Posts

Last night I thought to "update" my registered version of FSUIPC 3.999. Everything went smoothly including acceptance of the digital signature. However, FS9 would not load it giving the message in the title. The previous version I had installedwas 3.911. Fortunately I also had an old backup disc and was able to restore FSUIPC to an "accepted by fs9" version. However that is quite old being v3.989.

Can you tell me why FS9 wouldn't load the latest version. And/or how I can upgrade to the latest version that does work!

Thanks,

The message actually says just "FS9 can't read FSUIPC.DLL"? I've never heard of or seen such a message. Did it not say anything else, no reason, nothing? When exactly did this message appear -- i.e. at what stage? Did FSUIPC get loaded then unloaded (is there a LOG file produced by this version beforehand?).

What do you mean by "acceptance of the digital signature"? How do you see this occurring?

Could you also check which actual version of FSUIPC you installed? I need the specific number. Currently FSUIPC is up to version 3.999y5, with 3.999z due soon.

Hi Pete,

The message says "Fs9 was unable to load or read a file but can continue without it"

It then gives the name of the miscreant file as fsuipc.dll

This message came up within half a second of the splash screen appearing. There certainly was an install.log which was all ok.

I'll have to rerun the installation to see if an FSUIPC.log was created as I can't recall.

In the user guide it mentions to check the digital signature. Which I did and all was ok.

The version I tried to install was 3.999w just last night!

I have seen another post similar to this over on Avsim. but nothing there is relevant. I don't use any joystick software. There is a very old version of simconnect but it's not used by anything. My fs9 is and always has been on a different partion ie. F: I have not installed, downloaded any extra goodies. The FS9 installation itself is sound. So In my mind it would appear that there was a problem somehow in the installation. In the past All I had to do was copy FSUIPC.dll from the download package into the FS9 modules directory. Now it is in the form of a downloader. It "appeared" to download everything correctly. So I'm wondering if the FSUIPC.dll is or was somehow corrupt.

The sequence of events was: Using FS9 with PFE and FSMetar (both needing FSUIPC). Everything worked normally. FS9 closed. New version of FSUIPC installed. FS9 opened immediately with the error message.

I Just re-ran the instlalation and got the same error message. There was indeed a log created text as below:-

Doesn't it give you a choice at all?

The version I tried to install was 3.999w just last night!

That's the last Installer version. there is a later version in the Download Links subforum here.

There is a very old version of simconnect but it's not used by anything.

SimConnect is only related to FSX and FSUIPC4.

So I'm wondering if the FSUIPC.dll is or was somehow corrupt.

Well if the signature checks, as you say, it cannot be corrupt. So this is very peculiar indeed.

I Just re-ran the instlalation and got the same error message. There was indeed a log created text as below:-

No. As you will note if you check, that log is from 3.989u, not 3.999w.

The download available on Schiratti.com is advertised as 3.999w

And it is, but that is Mr. Schiratti's site. Interim updates, under my control, are always posted here, in the Download Links subforum. Please see if 3.999y5 helps.

Pete

Hi Pete,

I downloaded 3.999y5 from here as you sugessted and got the very same message.

It reads:"FS was unable to load some a/c or software. You can continue using FS but this a/c or software will be disabled. File FSUIPC.dll"

So there's definately something that FS9 doesn't like about FSUIPC.dll. Or is it the other way round? What does this vers of FSUIPC require from FS9 that previous versions did not?

Nothing that I know of. I've never seen that message with FS9. It works fine here, and if it were a general problem there'd be lots of questions about it here. After all 3.999w is the main current release which very many have downloaded since its release last August.

Maybe there's something it now needs which isn't installed on your system? I certainly am not aware of any new dependencies for FSUIPC3 -- I am very careful not to use anything only available in later versions of Windows.

These are the Windows DLLs it needs to be able to link to. Perhaps you could check whether you have them all installed?

KERNEL32.DLL

ADVAPI32.DLL

CRYPT32.DLL

DSOUND.DLL

GDI32.DLL

HID.DLL

MSACM32.DLL

MSCVRT.DLL

OLE32.DLL

SETUPAPI.DLL

SHELL32.DLL

USER32.DLL

VERSION.DLL

WINMM.DLL

WS2_32.DLL

If any one of those was not installed in your Windows, Windows\System or Windows\System32 folders then it would be explained. However, I've compared that list for version 3.999y5 with the same for version 3.989u (which you have working), and the only extra ones now are OLE32.DLL and SHELL32.DLL.

The only function used in SHELL32 is ShellExecuteExA. That was added in the original WinXP release.

The only function used in OLE32 is CoInitilalizeEx, and that's been around since Win2000.

It must be some sort of dependency, but I'm not sure how to find out what. Is there any extra information in the Windows error logs?

Hi Pete,

From your list the only one missing is MSCVRT.DLL. But you say that was required in previous releases of FSUIPC. Strange why they worked then if it is needed

I'm running XP so it should be there apparently. I've never had an MSCVRT.DLL error message.

Where do I find the error logs in case there's something there?

Also it seems to be necessary for running C+ etc. All my C+ gauges work fine!!!!

I do have it it's called MSVCRT.DLL and not MSCVRT.DLL!!

Sorry, typo.

So then I have all the dll's required. What next!!!!

Sorry, I've no way of proceeding on this, unless you can find details of why Windows won't let FS load it. Did you look for messages in the Windows error logs?

I have a PC here running Windows XP SP3, like you (at least that's what FSUIPC thinks you are running), and it is fine with 3.999y5. I can't add code to FSUIPC to find out why it won't load because if it isn't loading any code i add can't run.

Windows error logs are accessed via: right-click on My Computer, select 'Manage', then Event viewer, then Application. see if you can find reports referring to FS9 or FSUIPC.

I have had a look at Windows error logs and whilst there are some ie. perflib errors they don;t equate to the times yesterday and today that I have tried to run the latest FSUIPC. Is it because I'm not using SP3 perhaps?

Well, it's possible I suppose. I don't have access to any version before SP3 I'm afraid so I can't tell. Maybe some of the improvements i've put into FSUIPC in the last year have made use of things which weren't in even XP before SP3. I've not done so deliberately, and if I could identify what it might be I'd try and make it optional somehow, but I'm not able to find out without knowing what your Windows obviously knows but isn't telling!

I think it would be a good idea for you to update Windows in any case.

I am programming an update. But it's held up at the moment as it also involves a rebuild.

Plus I want to finish my a/c panel first.

So it'll be a few weeks yet. I'll try again then when everything is settled.

Thanks for your quick responses.
