Pete Dowson
Hi, Sorry not sure if my post actually went onto the forum as I cannot see it. Posts from new posters have to be approved, and I sleep sometimes at night. Sorry. I saw two identical entries from you awaiting approval and automatically deleted the older one, on the basis that posters often post the same thing two or three times. So, apologies, this time I appear to have dleeted the one with a question in it. Pete
Robshep
Hello Pete, No problem at all. I am not quite sure what I did here to be honest. My head was fried after numerous hours setting up and fixing things. I was meant to add on the rest of the info here. Anyway, I have been using FSUIPC and WideFS for a long time not with FS9 on networked PC's and everything worked perfectly. Just yesterday I installed FSX and sorted out everything I needed to get the network operating correctly for FSX. The only iss I am having is when I try to install FSUIPC on the non-flying PC, it tells me that it cannot access the FSX DLL.XML to edit/activate it. Now I have all the necessary files/folders shared for FSX (main FSX Folder, AppData and FSX Files). I feel like I am missing something really simple here. I have run FSX numerous times yesterday as well testing things so its not that it hasn't been run either. I have posted the log below. INSTALLATION FOR FSX: Checking version of the FSX EXE: ... Version 10.0.61472.0 (Need at least 10.0.60905.0) Checking compatibility with installed SimConnect: Found SimConnect build 60905 (Original) Found SimConnect build 61242 (SP1 May07) Checking if there's already a version of FSUIPC4 installed in: \\Robert-pc\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Modules\FSUIPC4.DLL ... Version 4.921f found. FSX Modules folder already exists. Okay -- installed FSUIPC4 into "\\Robert-pc\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Modules\FSUIPC4.DLL" Looking for the current user's Application Data path: ... found as "C:\Documents and Settings\Robert\Application Data" Now finding \Microsoft\FSX\FSX.CFG for all users, including this one Looking in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data" ... You cannot install it on the non-flying PC -- there is no point in doing so! Regards Pete
Robshep
Hi Pete, OK Thanks. I'm not really sure why I was under the impression that this was required. I remember doing so previously. Just me having a "moment" I would say! :P Anyway, all is up and running now and everything communicating nicely. I do have another question for you however, I am trying to set up my Yoke as I had before with buttons for AP/ AT and PTT. I have set them as you would normally, for AT/AP setting keyboard commands via PMDG menu and then assigning a button to that key in FSUIPC and then for PTT for SB just setting that up as a button in FSUIPC. The sim is simply not acknowledging the button presses at all. I press then an nothing happens. I am doing all the exact same way as I have done in the past. FSUIPC or the PMDG aircraft or SB? Are you using an FS9 version of a PMDG aircraft? Are you using SB3 or SB4? I don't think SB3 works on FSX. Use FSUIPC's button or key logging to see what you are getting. There's not enough information here for me to help. Pete
Robshep
OK, I am using FSX and SB4 and no I am using PMDG 747-400X. I have changed over to FSX! So, I go into the PMDG Keyboard command menu, I select a key that controls AP DISCON and another key for AT DISCON. I then go into FSUIPC and in the button's and switches tab, I assign both keyboard commands to their own button. So the button press should be triggering the keyboard command set in the PMDG menu. But it isnt working. I press the buttons but they do not carry out the function assigned to them, there is simply no response. The same goes for the PTT button apart from the fact that this does not need to be assigned a keyboard command. Before I would have SB running on the networked PC and assign the PTT button on my yoke through FSUIPC and all worked well, but this is not the case now with FSX. Have you tried using Logging as I advised? Something is obviously not set correctly, but without more information I couldn't say. Pete
Robshep
Yes I have tried key logging. What info do you need?
Pete Dowson
Yes I have tried key logging. What info do you need? Well, assuming you can't make head nor tail of it, I'd need to see the log with your button presses recorded. The [buttons] section of your FSUIPC4.INI file would also be useful, to see the actual assignments you made. Pete
Robshep
Well, I cannot work out what is wrong this time and why it isn't working. As I said there I am doing nothing different than I have before. I am not at my main PC right now but I will post the log in the next hour or so. Robshep
Update: I think the issue is actually the aircraft not processing the key commands. Having tried to action the commands on the keyboard, nothing happens. So I dont think this is an FSUIPC issue but not too sure why it wouldn't be picking up the key commands...any idea why this may be?
Pete Dowson
Hi again, is this what you need? Well, that's just the INI file. Where's the log showing the buttons being pressed, which I've mentioned twice before? I think the issue is actually the aircraft not processing the key commands. Having tried to action the commands on the keyboard, nothing happens. So I dont think this is an FSUIPC issue but not too sure why it wouldn't be picking up the key commands...any idea why this may be? Sorry, no. I do not use any PMDG aircraft. Maye the PMDG support forum can help? Regards Pete
Robshep
Well, that's just the INI file. Where's the log showing the buttons being pressed, which I've mentioned twice before? OK Pete, I appreciate your assistance. However the reason I have asked you for help is because I do not know the ins and outs of FSUIPC like you. Instead of having a go at me for giving the incorrect info and it being quite clear that I am not sure where it is, you could perhaps advise me where it is instead of just having a go! I understand you probably get frustrated with numerous silly questions from people but I have come here for some help with your superb program and to be honest it feels like you can't really be bothered helping. I love FSUIPC, it a fantastic bit of software and all I was after was a bit of help. Never mind though. I guess I'll just have to figure it out myself. Instead of having a go at me for giving the incorrect info and it being quite clear that I am not sure where it is, you could perhaps advise me where it is instead of just having a go. Sorry, but I certainly wasn't "having a go"! If you had just said you didn't know where to find the log file I would have told you straight off! I assumed that because you found the INI file with your settings you would have seen the LOG file right next to it! There aren't many files named FSUIPC4 -- the DLL, the INI, the KEY and the LOG, all in the same place, all in the FSX Modules folder! When you do find it, please simply paste it here like you did with the INI file. it being quite clear that I am not sure where it is And where was that ever made clear before now? You never said you couldn't find the log file! You managed somehow to find the INI file without all this fuss. Sorry, I don't understand where you are coming from with these accusations. it feels like you can't really be bothered helping. I really take great objection to that! I provide almost immediate help to every one no matter how simple or complex the problem. I do it 12 hours or more a day every day, excepting only when I'm away or out -- which isn't very often owing to my eyesight problems. But I cannot read your mind. I you can't find something you need to just say so, not simply ignore the request for data as you appeared to have done, twice. That said, though, there is no way I can help diagnose faults in PMDG aircraft. I can only tell you if FSUIPC is doing what you are asking of it, and if not then why not. Robshep
Hi Pete, OK maybe I was bit grumpy earlier and I am sorry. What I was getting at was that you kept saying that I was not providing enough info and but other than the logs, which I thought I was providing, you were not specifying what info you needed. Anyway, I am sorry and I know you are very very good at answering posts quickly and I was just getting annoyed (I want it to work and also had an awful day at work) and I should have taken some time before typing that. I apologise for having a pop at you Pete. Pete Dowson
Please see below. Okay. That is certainly a log. But unfortunately you forgot to enable the Button logging in the FSUIPC menu as I suggested. (I said, if you look back far enough, "use FSUIPC's button or key logging to see what you are getting."). If you don't know where to look, and perhaps haven't read any of the FSUIPC documentation supplied, then try pressing ALT then D then F, in turn, to get you to the FSUIPC menu, and selecting the logging page and check the options on the left -- not all of them, only the buttons one. Then press your buttons, the ones you think are not being dealt with correctly, and get the log to paste here. Okay? The documentation for all these facilities is provided in the FSUIPC Documents folder which is in the FSX Modules folder. The Installation document you would have seen in your download would have told you this. Regards Pete
