wide fs connection fsx

Recommended Posts

Hi

can someone help please. I start a flight at Coningsby or any airfield North of the London area and wide fs connects from my laptop to my main pc which has fsx on it no problem at all. I am connected via Ethernet connection.

when I start the sim at anywhere in the London area for example at London City, wide fs will not connect at all. It reports waiting for a connection?

any ideas

Regards

Colin.

WideFS doesn't care where you are. The connection is most certainly nothing to do with where you are. It sounds more likely that you have a bug in your London scenery which is causing FS to fail.

There will be a WideServer log in the FS Modules folder, and a WideClient log in the same folder as WideClient on the client PC. Both are important to see what is going on. Also the FSUIPC4 log, in the FS Modules folder, may help. You can paste their contents into a message here. Please close both ends (FS and WideClient) down before getting the Logs.

I have found the files you want but although I have copied them to the clipboard I cannot paste them into this message?

I said paste the CONTENTS of the files, not the files themselves! Just open the files in a text editor like Notepad, and cut and paste the text into the message.

Hi Pete, We did exactly as you said and it would not paste into the message. I say we, I am a 81 year old computer idiot and my Son helps me on team viewer.  I just love Flight simming, I have all the kit but networking and WideClients and the inner workings etc. dream on.

 Many thanks Colin.

Well, the text from the files is just normal text. If you couldn't paste it into a message here then you cannot edit or write text here, it is all part of the same thing. But obviously that is not true. Tell me, can you not even read the files? Just open them with Notepad. If you can read them you can copy their contents and paste them. Ask your son how to select text, copy it and paste it. I just use the mouse to select and Ctrl+Insert to copy, Shift+Insert to paste. Works every time, without fail.

I can't help without information. The fact that you have WideFS working fine sometimes means it is working so there's obviously no need for you to have any "networking expertise". I suspect you are just misinterpreting some other problem, probably with scenery.

That happened to me as well, I had to unlock contents in explorer for this page to get it work. Without you can write and answer but not paste anything into the message, that is related to this page only.

Hi Thomas,

Sorry, i'm not with you. Where does Explorer come into it? Do you mean Internet Explorer? I'm afraid I don't have that installed. Can you give step by step instructions? I've no idea why someone might not be able to do simple pasting into messages, nor therefore how to fix it.

Thanks!

BTW the dimmers on the Pilot side of the cockpit are all okay now. Seems to be just a bad connection on one of the plugs on the Bodnar board. I just fiddled with them and it all worked properly again!

Hi Pete

We have tried everything to paste the text into this page. we have highlighted the text the way you have said. we have done it every way we can think of? we do this every day in lots of different situations copying and pasting is like second nature!

but every way we try we cannot paste into this window?

Hi Pete,

yes internet explorer 11. There is a small box byside the address bar that indicates if the contents are blocked or not. By clicking on it the setting for this page can be changed. It is to secure back tracking.

Or just using a different browser like you do, and mostly I as well

Ah, thanks! Hopefully now Colin and Simon can show me the problem!

You've pasted a WideClient ini file, no Log file unfortunately -- because that's the main one needed! You've also pasted two partial copies of the WideServer Log, both without first closing FS as I asked, and both actually showing a connection, not waiting for a connection. Obviously the files I need to see must appertain to the error you are getting, not the success. I also need the FSUIPC4 LOG file from the same folder as the WideServer LOG file.

Please be sure to first CLOSE FS and WideClient so that the files are completed!

Well, the FSUIPC log shows you are a bit out of date -- version 4.929 is the currently supported version

However, I also see that the FSUIPC4 log file is starting two days ago (12th Feb) at 14:12:04. so it doesn't correspond to the WideServer LOG you supply which starts at 11:33:38 on the same day. Additionally the WideServer log  shows a perfectly good WideFS session lasting 37 minutes, with no problems whatsoever.

You have also, yet again, supplied a copy of the default (as installed) WideClient.INI file, which I don't need (because it is the one I supply), and you have still not supplied the WideClient LOG file for the same session

So, all you've achieved so far is to show me that WideFS is working fine.

If you REALLY have a problem, and that is fast becoming doubtful, I need the FSUIPC4 LOG, the WideServer LOG and the WideClient LOG for the SAME session in which you had problems. It is absolutely no good supplying a file from one session and another from another session. How can I possibly relate those? Also logs, even ones which correspond with each other, are not relevant if everything worked fine -- because that's all they'll show, that everything is fine.

And please STOP supplying the WideClient INI file -- it is the LOG file you need to show me! I've no interest in seeing a file which is actually included in the WideFS ZIP which you downloaded.

I am going on holiday at 4 am in the morning, and so probably won't now be able to respond till I get back on March 2nd or 3rd. Sorry. Maybe if you do ever manage to post relevant files someone else may jump in to assist. There are many thousands of happy successful WideFS users.

Regards

Pete

Dear Pete,

firstly many thanks for putting up with our inadequacies when it comes to computer programming language, it must drive you nuts trying to deal with people who really, just don't  understand it all?

Over the years we have purchased thousands of pounds worth of computer equipment and untold amounts of software. From FS 2002 to FS 2004 and now FSX we have suitcases full of Scenery and aircraft, most of it redundant now.

I think the setup that we have now is as good as it gets. we are running i7 machines with ssd drives and 16gb memory and decent graphic cards. Average frame rates are in the 40 to 50 fps with most settings at max. The London area pushes it a bit harder down to mid twenty's but, that's to be expected.

I am using Generation x scenery with all the latest updates and all the latest uk2000 scenery. It is truly stunning.

FSUIPC ( have installed the latest version now. Thank you. ) and Widefs work fantastically well combined with the Plan G mapping software on my laptop.

In the scheme of things the problem I have is not really a problem more like a minor irritation. Just to reiterate, its only at the London area airports that the wide server doesn't start. If I go to any other airport wide server starts and works perfectly. If I want it to work at London city for example, I just start the sim at an airport where I know it works eg Coningsby. Then I just use the go to airport function and wide server carries on working at London City as it should do.

I feel extremely grateful for your time and valuable input and I think I have wasted enough of it. I am happy to live with this as is.

Many thanks for producing such a great program it really has given me hours of entertainment and brings the Flight Sim to life.

I hope you have a great Holiday.

Kind Regards

Colin

The problem is more serious than that. If WideServer is not starting then pretty much nothing in FSUIPC is starting. It means that FSUIPC has not recognised that FS is ready to fly.

The only times I have ever seen this is when there is a problem with the start-up flight. or the way the start is being configured, which somehow causes essential signals from SimConnect to be omitted.

I would like to solve it for you even though you say it doesn't matter, but I need more information.  This is why I asked for the correct and corresponding logs, which you never managed to supply. Once I see those I can suggest some additional logging options which will give me more precise information in the specific area where it is needed.
