Sorry Peter. I am having some difficulties with RC4 and have a few questions. In FSX I am on the Apron at Oban in Scotland and on starting RC4 I get the popup window stating "RC4 Ready". I then get the following items: 2....WX, and 4. CLS by FSS. I am using MCE, which is started when RC4 is ready. However, when I use the speak button and request "Clearance, Skyways 373 request clearance to Edinburgh" I get no response from RC4. I then try by pressing key 4, but still nothing. Then for some unknown reason the RC4 window dissapears and I can't seem to get it back, and it would appear that RC4 has frozen. I am also using GSX, and am not sue if this is interfering somehow, although I have seen videos with RC4, MCE and GSX all working together. How should one request clearance from FSS. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to stop the RC4 window disappearing,of getting it back? Is there anything specifically that needs to be set for RC4 to work alongside GSX? I think you would get more help with RC on the RC support forum. You say you are one of the pilot voices on RC4. Is this new, or are you in fact an old hand with RC4? If so, what have you changed recently that you are unable to use it? The only part FSUIPC is playing in this is presumably registering your keypress in the registered list of keys assigned by RC. Have you actually done the correct key assignments in RC, or checked that they are as you think they should be? I'm afraid I don't know MCE at all, but I assume you have also checked that you have programmed that to press the RC-assigned keys correctly? As far as I am aware GSX only responds to keys when its menu is displayed. It uses standard SimConnect-driven menus and so is limited to using keypresses 0-9. But, apart from the key assigned in GSX to invoke the menu, those keypresses are not intercepted without the menu. I use both RC and GSX without any interference between them. I've always found it best to avoid using simple 0-9 keys for things like RC. My choices are like the defaults, but all with both Ctrl and Shift also pressed, and the RC menu then shows "CS1 ..." etc. I've programmed these on a touchscreen as buttons (WideFS's buttonscreen option). I've also successfully used It's Your Plane (IYP) which, something like MCE I suppose, can translate spoken words and phrases into actions such as keypresses. As for the RC menu window disappearing, I'm sorry but I don't know anyway that would occur normally, only by RC action. Maybe something you did caused it to terminate its service. However I am using P3D 2.2 + hotfix and FSUIPC 4.931 (I am yet to try 4.932 though I will update to it now that I have seen it.) I was using 4.929 with FSX with RC4.3 without any issues, but since the shift to P3D 2.2 and FSUIPC 4.931 I have the window disappearing issue as well. The other thing I have noticed is that I have to click the RC4 window before any send keys get captured by it. So there has been times that when I have been pressing 1, only to find that it wont register with RC4 until I click on the RC4 window. I found that strange and thought it was more something to do with P3D rather than FSUIPC. I am now tempted to move RC4 to a separate PC and interact with it some other way. Thoughts? There is a keyboard focus issue with running P3D 2.2 in full screen mode. It is not focus on the RC4 window -- that isn't a separate window which can take the focus: the keystrokes are intercepted on their way to P3D itself, so the keyboard focus is with P3D. But initially when switching P3D to full screen mode it appears to lose its focus. Clicking on it with the mouse once will restore focus and should enable you to continue. The focus problem with P3D 2.2 should be reported to Lockheed Martin. It needs fixing for sure. There's another recent thread on just this problem, which is the only reason I know about it. I didn't connect the two issues (RC4 and keypress assignments in general) until now. Best if all users affected report it to L-M so it gets fixed sooner. Run the test you mention above, but otherwise keep the session short otherwise the log will become too large. Close FS. Then find the log file (in the Modules folder) and if it isn't too large, paste its contents into a message here. If it is large, ZIP it up and send it to petedowson@btconnect.com. Oh, best too to show me your FSUIPC4.INI file please, in case it is related to settings. Also please list all other add-ons you are running with FSX at the time. Pete Dowson Posted May 2, 2014 Report Share Posted May 2, 2014 here is my FSUIPC.ini These options are good: ShowMultilineWindow=Yes SuppressSingleline=Yes SuppressMultilineFS=No but the Radar Contact window position seems to be set to a rather unlikely place: [Window.Radar Contact] Docked=63, 14417, 2365, 1707 Those numbers are: top left x, y and horizontal and vertical size. The vertical start position at 14417 pixels would place it well off most folks screens. Are you maybe using multiple screens and changed since it last worked okay? Try deleting that line altogether so it comes up in its default size and position to start with. If that works I won't need to see the Log. Pete Dowson Posted May 3, 2014 Report Share Posted May 3, 2014 Well, the log is incomplete as you stasrted a New Log, so lopping off the initialisation, and you didn't close FS beforehand as I asked. Nevertheless, as far as it goes it shows everything is correct. The very last part, before you stopped it (rather than close down) shows RC displaying: <MEVEL>38m/25./0 1-Ground on 13522 Main-0. I'm sure that window is actually somewhere off screen -- check your INI file again for the Radar Contact window parameters. Maybe they are also being stored in your flight, the one you are loading to start with? Check that. The ones there may override FSUIPC's settings (the Window is an FS window and it really controls where it goes). The section in the FLT file will be similar to the one in FS's INI file, if it is there. Somehow I think you've had some sort of problem, with Windows being mispositioned (maybe a corrupt FLT file) and the bad parameters have stuck around. It seems the disappearing window is not confined to my own issue. I solved my initial problem of RC4 not responding, it was caused by a corrupted panel in my aircraft not turning on avionics. However, I too have the issue with the AdvDisplay window disappearing after a few seconds, probably after the first RC4 key presses. I am not running Prepare3d, and use FSX on single screen. From advice from Ron Ginsburg (RC4 Support group) I tried assigning Ctrl-x to AdvDisplay in fsuipc.ini (AdvDisplayHotKey=88,10), but that doesn't help bring the window back when it disappears. I too did not have this issues on previous flights. Could it be an issue specific to the latest P3d release of fsuipc? There's no "P3D release" of FSUIPC, there has just been a constant series of updates of FSUIPC4 for the last 9 years. P3D support has been included for several of those years. The "Radar Contact" window support is the same as the support for Lua display windows and so on. They are all part of the one FS facility. I don't know why you are observing a problem recently which you'd not had before, but nothing anywhere near related to these Windows has been knowingly changed for years. Maybe there is a new problem, but i would need to know more and ideally be able to reprduce it to work out why. I am going to put in checks for the Window position, making sure it is within screen limits. For a docked Window it must be within the FS window, so that should be easy enough. I can't really limit it so easily for an undocked Window as that can be moved onto other screens. Would it be possible for me to reinstall fsuipc 4.929, and still keep the registry key? There's no registry keys associated with FSUIPC. All of your settings are in your INI file and your registration is in your KEY file. There's nothnig else, and either of those files are touched by installing, except for the KEY file if you opt to re-register for any strange reason. BTW are there lots of reports of this phenomenon over in the RC forum? I would have thought there's be more reports if it was really an FSUIPC problem rather than some strange interaction causing this off-screen positioning. I don't know if they'll help because I'm not really sure where the problem is arising. i'm now checking the coordinates and making sure that the docked window is within the confines of FS's display. And I've separated the code more from some new code added recently to support the WideFS Lua "TextMenu" facility. I'm suspicious that there may have been some unwanted interaction there even when the latter isn't actually in use. So, I need feedback, please. download FSUIPC4932bTest and try it please. Let me know as soon as you can -- I'm on holiday from Saturday for 10 days and would like to get this sorted and release 4.933 before then if possible. Thanks! It's a great program which I have been using for years, I was just picking up on something the other poster had stated about version 4.929 working for him previously. I shall happily try the beta 4.932 version this afternoon, if I have time, but will in any case let you know before Saturday. Although the AdvDisplay window did disappear, I think it was when I called up the GSX settings dialogue, I was though able to call it back using the Ctrl-x toggle that I had setup in my ini file. It did seem slow in reacting to my RC4 key presses, but that may be due to other programs running, also RC4 did not respond to voice commands via MCE, but I shall discuss that with MCE support. I was running: RC4, MCE, GSX and Accufeel effects. Sorry that I can't be more definitive, but from the disappearing window aspect it seemed OK. Thanks again, for your continued support. It shouldn't disappear. It's a separate Window. The sim is able to support many of them -- I can open several and keep them open with no problem. I'll see if i can reproduce this here. I can have the RC menu window, a GSX menu called up, and a message strip from FS telling me my QNH setting is all wrong and to press 'B', and all are independent of each other. The only way I can clear the RC menu is to write an empty message to it, or to set it to time out via the control parameter so that it limits how many seconds it is displayed. I've tested it on FSX and P3D in both Windowed and full screen mode. So, I'm going to give up on this one for now and make a release 4.933 tomorrow or Wednesday. I'm sure it is now working as it was designed originally. If something else is making it disappear I'll need to try and get that identified at a later date. The vertical start position at 14417 pixels would place it well off most folks screens. Are you maybe using multiple screens and changed since it last worked okay? I don't understand them. For a docked window the figures are proportions of 16384 of the Flight Sim's width and height. The "fix" I've implemented, apart from checking the values, is full separation from the recently added "TextMenu" facility operated by WideClient.
