Anti-Virus False Positive: System.IO.FileNotFoundException

Recommended Posts

One user reported his Anti Virus declared a false positive during STB V3.4 and silently deleted the DLL concerned.  When attempting to use STB, he received the error:

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'SimCustom, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies.

I have not detected any viruses or other similar problems in STB.  Like most other .net products, STB uses a technique called obfuscation and that is known to occasionally trigger certain anti virus products.  If you see the above error, or a varation of it mentioning a different assembly other than "SimCustom", check you have a DLL of the same name in your STB install folder.
