Reversed axis on Aerosoft A320 X Extended with FSUIPC4

Recommended Posts

Dear FSUIPC team,

I own FSX acceleration boxed and registered FSUIPC. My controls are inverted with Aerosoft A320 X Extended. I tried all the proposals I found on the web, read an reread your tutorials and forum, watched many video tutos but no way : the axis stay inverted. Do you have any idea of what it could come from please ? Thanks a lot and have a good day.

How are your axes assigned? If 'Direct to FSUIPC Calibration', you can reverse the axes in the calibration dialog.
If you are not calibrating in FSUIPC, you can scale the input axes values - to reverse them, simply add ",*-1" to the end of the axes assignment line in your FSUIPC5.ini file. See the section Additional parameters to scale input axis values in the Advanced User guide.

Dear John,

I tried both : Direct to FSUIPC calibration and normal but in both cases when I calibrate the joystick "REV" checked or not, it doesn't change anything.

I bought only a few month ago but I have FSUIPC4 and not 5.

When you talk about axes assignment, do you talk about the 2 lines following [Axes] in the ini file or is it the 3 axis line : aileron, elevator, rudder + throttle at the end of the file ?

I tried to add: ,*-1 or ",*-1" in both cases and once again no result...

Do you have any other advise ?

Sorry, I meant your FSUIPC4.ini file.

The latter, i.e. you add to the end of the indexed axis assignment that you want to revert. As I advised, please see  the section Additional parameters to scale input axis values in the Advanced User guide.

Please activate logging for axes controls, and produce a short log file where you move your effected axes through their entire range. Then show me/attach your FSUIPC4.ini and FSUIPC4.log files and I will take a look.

I have also just noticed that you posted in the Announcements sub-forum, where it explicitly states Not for support requests. I have moved your post to the correct forum.

Please take care to post in the correct forum, i.e. this one for all products except FSUIPC7/MSFS2020, which has its own sub-forum.

Try this with both rev checked and unchecked, two different sessions please, if you can, and show me both files from both sessions.
Or with the ',*-1' added/not-added if you prefer, as either should reverse the axis range being sent to the FS.

Thanks,

John

Dear John,

Sorry for the forum error and the time I took to answer you. No way to send you anything, the site tells me :1 file would exceed the total allowed size of 20kB

I know what is a Ko but not a kB. if I can't send you a base word it's gonna be difficult...

Sorry but once again, thanks for your help

Just ZIP files up for attachment. They are just text and do ZIP up really small!

I don't know what a Ko is (a knockout, or a threat in a game of Go perhaps?), but a kb is a kilobyte -- i.e. 1000 (Kilo) bytes (the unit of size in computer memory and files -- one byte contains 8 bits).

Anyway I send you then a copy/paste of the code lines I obtained following your advise. Could you have a look please ?

What you posted (apart from being very difficult to read!) tells me that you don't have any axes assignments in FSUIPC - your [Axes]  section is empty and you do not have any [Axes.xxx] profile sections.
Are your assigning your axes in FSX? If so, why not try assigning in FSUIPC, then you can try what i have already suggested.

I own FSX acceleration boxed

If its a boxed version, have you updated with the SP! and SP2 service pack updates? If not, please do this.

And please try attaching files, rather than pasting their contents. Just drop them into the box at the bottom of the text entry box.

Also, the log file you pasted was pretty pointless. You haven't activated logging for Axes controls, as advised, so it doesn't contain anything useful.

I suggest you try disabling controllers in FSX and try to configure your axes in FSUIPC, and we can go from there....

 Whaohh, at the end of our discussions I will have become a computer scientist 🙂  Well, I will try to apply all your advise and hope I will solve my problem. I'll keep you posted. Anyhow, thanks for your prompt replies and the time you take on issues that are not seay to deal with via email. Have a good evening.

Dear John,

I made all the changes you advised me and... it works :-). With your help, I understood what I did wrong : I didn't assigned controls on FSUIPC whereas I thought I had. Once modified, the REV box on Joystick calibration does is job.

In fact, I've been led into error by a video tutorial from a simmer saying the FSUIPC hat was really slower than the FSX one and that it was better to keep just this hat on the FSX commands instead of FSUIPC. But, in fact, this prevented activation of FSUIPC other commands. Now it's fine for my Aerosoft A320 birds.

I just have a last question : despite putting in the wrong direction, the simmer was right concerning the hat (pan view) button, it's really slower via FSUIPC. With "Control to repeat while held" it moves first quickly to the first "notch" but then there's a lag of 2 or 3 s before moving once again and this is really not pleasant and dangerous for the passengers 🙂 I didn't managed to find a similar issue on the forums. Did you know about that and do you think there's a solution ?

Once again, thanks a lot for your professionnal help and have a good evening and start week.

Rgds

I have not noticed this, but then again I don't use FSX. Sounds strange though, I will take a look.

Dear John,

Things are unfortunately getting worse today... My Baron hasn't got any more rudder, my Constellation, Concorde have a full power at half throttle (at 50% the power is full) and no more rudder also, my A320 doesn't accelerate before 50%... and so on !! This time, it's a total mess with all the planes I tried and I'm really fed up with this ! How could settings that asked me days to correct could, the day after, end to a total mess ?  I bought FSUIPC to solve a problem of HOTAS disconnection and the result is that I always have problems with it ! What is the new set of problems due to according to you ?

Thank you.

simmer was right concerning the hat (pan view) button, it's really slower via FSUIPC.

How have you assigned this? To assign the hat switch to Pan View, you assign in the Axes Assignment panel, not the button assignments panel. Assign to the FS Pan View control there - there is no option "Control to repeat while held" for axes assignments, so you must be assigning in the wrong place.

I have no idea.... What did you do? Do you have controllers disabled in FSX?
Could your  controller ids have changed?
I really can't help if you are not showing me any files - please attach your FSUIPC4.log and FSUIPC5.ini files. Load the Baron, activate logging for axes controls in FSUIPC, try moving your rudder through its full range, then shutdown FSX and show me those files.

Dear john,

My FSX controller is desactivated. What is "ids" ?

I managed this time to enclose the files ini & log you ask.

It seems that the changes I made created 3 new log files : FSUIPC4.1.log than 4.2 and 4.3. Is it normal ?

Concerning the hat, I used the axes assignment panel for it and... it's getting worse : 3 to 4s lag instead of 2 to 3 !

Thanks for your analysis.

No. They are separate logs created each time you press the "New Log" button. Please don't do that unless it is suggested as a way of keeping the logs smaller.

1. Your default (non-profile specific) axis assignments are only for Aileron, Elevator and Throttle. You haven't assigned any axis to Rudder, which is why you have no rudder control.

2. Your axis assignments for the Connie have very strange Delta values:

[Axes.Connie]
RangeRepeatRate=10
0=0X,1,D,1,0,0,0    -{ DIRECT: Aileron }-
1=0Y,256,D,2,0,0,0    -{ DIRECT: Elevator }-
2=0Z,3225,D,4,0,0,0    -{ DIRECT: Throttle }-

The normal Delta is 256, meaning that the value is only used when it changes by 256. The settings of 1 for Aileron and 3225 for Throttle are both rather ridiculous. I suspect you've been messing around on the axis assignments tab without realising what you are doing. Please just follow the instructions in the user guide.

And, again, you haven't assigned the rudder!

Pete

That happens when you click the 'New Log' button - that will close the current log file and start a new one. Just don't do that!

I see Pete has also just replied....

As well as what Pete has said, your A320 throttle calibration is also very strange:
    Throttle=-16380,0/16
Try calibrating your throttle or change that to:
    Throttle=-16380,16380

As Pete said, you should read the User guide before trying to assign and calibrate.

But you have no axis assigned to Pan View. You only have buttons assigned to Pan Left, Pan Right, Pan Up and Pan Down:

Quote

13=R0,38,C65671,0     -{PAN_LEFT}-
15=R0,36,C65735,0     -{PAN_DOWN}-
17=R0,34,C65672,0     -{PAN_RIGHT}-
20=R0,32,C65734,0     -{PAN_UP}-

You do not need these assignments. Assign to the Pan View control in the Axes assignments dialog, as I have said.

I read your 60 pages manual and I will try once again to follow your advise but I believe you should advise your potential customer that high computer skills are required if you want it to work properly. It seems that you say everything is my fault. But how do you explain that yesterday evening everything was working fine and today morning it's a real mess ? Why all my rudders where right yesterday and not assigned today ? I tried A320, P40, 787, 777 and all were fine ! For the Connie : I didn't put any specific setting on him so why those strange setting now ?

Best regards

I disagree, but you are entitled to your opinion.

You say you have read the manual, but you do not evenseem to be reading mu comments. Take your hat/panning assignments. You ay you assigned this as an axis but that is obviously not true - you have the 4 hat buttons assigned as individual buttons, and you say you have set "Control to repeat while held", which is an option for buttons only - there is no such option for axes assignments.

Your 'Connie' profile is only assigned to one aircraft:

Quote

[Profile.Connie]
1=Lockheed L-1049H Air France 1966

So that will only be used with an aircraft that has that substring in its title.
The throttle calibration is also wrong for that profile:
    Throttle=-16380,0
You need to calibrate properly.

And the only profile in which you have any rudder assigned is in your A320 profile Which is only used for the following aircraft:

Quote

[Profile.A320]
1=Airbus A320 NEO Norwegian Air Shuttle LN-AES
2=Airbus A320 Air Canada C-FFWI
3=Airbus A320 Delta Air Lines N327NW
4=Airbus A320 Finnair OH-LXI
5=Airbus A320 TAP Portugal CS-TNS
6=A320 Avianca N416AV
7=Airbus A320 NEO

If the aircraft loaded has a livery that doesn't match any of those aircraft, the profile will not be used. I suggest that you change that to use substrings, e.g.

Quote

[Profile.A320]
1=A320

If you do that, the profile will be used for all aircraft that contain the string 'A320'.

I have no idea why you think your rudder was working for those aircraft when it isn't assigned, unless you had it assigned in FSX.

Maybe re-read it and try again. Try starting with the section The Easy Step-by-Step Way to Calibrate Your Controls
