Flight Plan Adjustments

Happy holidays!
Just a quick question and so let me paint a picture to better understand my issue...
I'm on a short hop from KBHM to KATL and have chosen "Low Alt. airways." Upon chosing this, FSC automatically generates a flight plan from KBHM to KATL. So far, so good! If the ATC does not make any adjustments to me FP then I'm good to go. However, how do I adjust my FP if the ATC tells me that I need to fly a particular departure from KBHM or if I need to fly a certain arrival into KATL?
