  1. Hi Pete,

I'm in the UK also and I do reduce visibility as much as I can  . However, if the weather is clear (downloaded weather), there is no haze at all and the result is therefore highly unrealistic, especially at night when the tiled ground textures become really obvious. There should be some limitation on visiblity even in clear skies.

The line becomes really obvious when the clouds start being drawn above it or worse, half-way through. I have no problem with a gradual haze but a straight line is not realistic at all and detracts somewhat from an otherwise great sim.

I guess I'll just have to live with it the way it is. It's infinitely better than the alternative thanks to FSUIPC.

Thanks for a great program Pete - worth every penny.

    All the best,

    Steve White

  2. Hi

I always set the maximum upper visiblity limit in FSUIPC Visibility to 50000 as I find the clean and sharp terrain and horizon unrealistic and repetitive.

However, while this effectively hazes out the terrain, it does leave a very obvious straight line. Does anyone know how to smooth out this colour transition or is is just an artifact of FS2004?

    Thanks for any ideas.

  3. Hi

Actually, the menu bar problem can be fixed. This is not my solution - I was told this by someone else on this forum but it appears to work for everyone who is having the problem. Here's what you do:

    1) Go to FS2002\aircraft\LAGO DHC-6\panel

    2) Load panel.cfg into Notepad or something similar

    3) Perform a search for pixel_size=1024,1024s

    4) Change it to pixel_size=512,512s

    5) Now repeat steps 3 to 4 until all occurences have been changed

    6) Save the file

    7) Load FS2002 and select the Twotter

Hopefully the menu should appear as normal when you press Alt. You shouldn't notice any major difference in the appearance of the VC - I and others certainly haven't.

    Cheers

  4. Yep, I agree. I've got a few probs with the aircraft as it stands but overall I'm very impressed and the more I fly it the more I like it. Lago have always supported their users and I have purchased many of their products and never been disappointed. I'm sure they will sort out the few niggles with the Twotter as soon as they can.

  5. Simon, of course you know where this is heading. And I'm sure you'll do all you can to make sure it gets to that point. You make no offer - you only make threats as if you are the judge and jury of flight simulation - the champion of justice. The truth is you are simply stirring matters - in other words, acting like a classic journalist.

As for your last comment, my name is still in print so don't go making stupid assumptions. Actually, if you look at the DF C172 and 182 you'll find my name there - I have two awards on my desk to prove it. Is that humble pie you're eating?

Now, make your witty retort and make it quick as I don't want to encourage you anymore. Do what you feel you have to do and go away.

    Cheers

The problem with Simon is, like many journalists, he believes he is far more important than he really is and has far more influence than he actually does. Also, he doesn't like the truth or a fair hearing to get in the way of a good story. He also now has a responsibility to his adoring fans that grace the other flight forums. Just keep your fingers crossed that he goes away.

  7. Hi

I don't think the problem here is with framerates. Framerates are great on my machine as I suspect they are on most other people's PCs who are using the Twotter. The problem is menu access using the Alt key. As soon as the menu is activated there is a long wait. When a menu does finally drop-down (provided you manage to make that happen) there is another long wait. As soon as you manage to return to the flight everything is fine again.

Something with the Twotter is interfering with FS2002s menu system causing it to be almost unusable (the menu that is).

  8. Hi

I had a look at some of the other panels out there and found this:

    Lago Twotter Panel: 6.64MB

    PSS 747 Panel: 9.01MB

    DF 737 Panel: 11.2MB

And the 747 and 737 also have fully functioning FMCs. So, it doesn't appear to be directly related to the size of the panel, file size or resolution.

Could this be a problem with one of the gauges? I really like the Twotter but this problem needs looking into. The explanation given isn't good enough. How would I have found out about this problem without buying the Twotter first and reading the included manual?

    Cheers

  9. Hi Mathijs

Er, I don't remember reading about this 'effect' before I bought the Twotter. If I had, I probably wouldn't have bothered. Can you explain to me exactly what it is that causes this problem as I'm a little perplexed as to why other, seemingly more advanced (in features) aircraft don't cause this problem.

    Cheers

  10. Hi

I did a few more tests and it's definitely since I installed the Twotter that the above problem is occuring - it's actually taking about 40seconds for the menu bar and subsequent menus to appear.

So, even when I ress ESC to end the flight, it takes 40seconds to bring up the End Flight menu and then another 40seconds when I've pressed End Flight. Once control is back to the main interface everything is fine.

As soon as I swap to another plane everything is fine so I'm pretty sure it's the Twotter. Go back to the Twotter and the problem reappears.

  11. Hi

Well I've got to say I'm very happy with the Twotter. Everything installed correctly and the plane flies like a dream.

However, when I tried to bring up the menus (ALT) everything pretty much froze. FS2002 hasn't crashed but has minimized to the desktop and now when I click the Start menu bar entry nothing happens. I tried CTRL+ALT+Delete just to see if the program is not responding but it's fine. When I tried to end the task it simply said:

'The system cannot end this program because it is waiting for a response from you'

I've never seen this before and I can only think it's been caused by the Twin Otter. I'll reset the PC and do a few more tests and keep you informed.

Also, as someone else said, the fuel and throttle gauges don't appear to respond to the mouse.

    Cheers
