  1. Hi Volker,

This is the strangest thing. It is now a problem I have to go to Pete Dawson, and show him the logs for Wide FS. I will try to sum it up, just as this is so curious.

The database manager now has run for FSX. But it was trying to boot up in the last default which was for the FS9 drive. so I logged into my FS9 drive, with the intent of running the database manager, to produce the errors to do screen shots to show to you. The errors, as I had copied them, were; "File Not Found, or No Access

Please check the FSCDBU_FS Log File

    Program will now abort"

also, a second error message appeared; "You have to run the database manager first!!

File region.fsc missing or zero bytes

    Check FSC.Info.log for details"

This is what I was expecting to get. Mind you, when I started to work on the FSX drive, FS9 was operating normally, until I ran the database manager, considering the add-ons I had. That is when I got those error logs.

So now, having got the FSX manager to work, I went back, and the database manager for FS9 worked! What is going on?

So I fired up the FS9 drive, to check it, and now the Wide FS is reporting, "waiting for a connection" I can not figure this out. so I log out, log into the FSX drive, half expecting the FSX Wide FS connection to report the same thing, but it connects! FSX is now running fine, and now I have to do screen captures of the Wide FS logs and bother Pete Dawson, to try and get this resolved. The only thing I can see is that there are duplicate Wide FS logs in both the server and client pc, at least on the FS9 drive. Ths is one strange case.

Thank you for your help. Now I will go bother Pete. Yours, Jeff

  2. Volker,

I'm sorry. There is still a problem. It ran the database manager for the FSX drive, which we have been working on, and reported "success" or "finished". Now when I go to boot FSC up, it is saying instantly you "have to run the database manager" and "see the log" there "is a missing file" I believe it is trying to run the FS9 version, and this message comes up before I can switch the FSC mode to FSX. I know the FS9 manager had this problem, and it has to boot up before I can switch the FSC to FSX.

I jumped the gun. So now I have to find where this log is, it is not the flight log. If you want I can provide screen shots with the database manager trying to read the FS9 drive.

    Yours, Jeff

  3. Hi Volker,

I am running the exe, FSCFSXCFG.Zip, from within the main FSX folder where flight simulator is located The flight simulator says the scenery.cfg is successfully copied as scenerycfg.fsc. I have enclosed a screen shot of what the database manager is doing after this. As you can see, it is still asking to copy and rename the scenery.cfg. I have searched the computer .....wait, Being a Mac person, I forgot to use the computer to do a search. I do that. I find, Scenerycfg.fsc.cfg in program files X86. I remove that to a folder. I also find what I am looking for, scenerycfg.fsc, in users/jeff/app data/local/virtual store/microsoft/flight simulator fsx - I move it out, put it into the main FSX directory, and voila....it works, and I am running the database manager right now.

This Windows 7 is extremely hard to work the communication to the XP machine. I have done this before, just manually renaming the scenery, cfg as scenerycfg.fsc. Being a Mac user I sometimes get confused or miss things.

So you don't really need the attached screen shot of the map computer, but I will leave it. In the confusion, you can see that the mapped drives have very long names- the mapped drives for the FS9 drive (a separate drive), have very short names like Y2kfs9 , etc, but in my confusion in mapping drives I just make do with the long names. But it is working. Thank you for your help. I will be posting a question about my FS9 fsc connection, the database manager is reporting file "not found", and to go look at the log, and I don't know how to get to the log. I have alot of add-ons in FS9.

Thank you again, Now I go fly! great product. Yours Jeff harr

  4. Hi Volker. I can be sort of comp illiterate, please excuse me. I downloaded the fscfsxcfg.zip, unzipped it, put that executable in the main FSX directory and ran it. The next exe, I ran, hit ok, etc. and it said I had successfully copied the necessary file into the FSX path. Running database manager- it is asking the same thing.

The word 'path" confuses me. You do mean the main FSX directory. And second, there is a "scenery.cfg" embedded in "users/appdata/roaming", but I map the other relevant file to user/my documents, where the flt sim puts saved flights. I am still too much of a newbie to be using and learning flight plans, I guess that is the next step. But I have done this before, successfully with FS9 and FSX.

I have created a problem with FS9 for the FSCommander, but I will save that for another post when this is straightened out. The database manager for FS9 is asking to look at a log, I don't know where they are kept.

    Thanks, Jeff

  5. I am having trouble with this. when I copy the file, it looks like it changes from having the familiar blue on white in appearance, to a blank white file. I have set folder options to recognize the full file name, so I am pretty sure it is not changing to scereycfg.fsc.cfg.

I can not get around the prompt to copy it and place it in the FSX directory. I am running windows 7 professional, 64 bit, hooked up to and XP machine in a wired network with Pete Dawsons wide client. I put the copied file back into the FSX main folder (this is what is meant by FSX path, ?), and it still asks for prompt to copy. The main FSX directory is mapped correctly, I believe, but I am stuck here.

I have FS9 set up on a secondary drive, no problems, FSC runs great. I have had the rig running FSX and FS9 correctly, but recently redid the FSX drive just to clean it up and take care of errors which were beyond me.

It is version 9.0 NET (Build 171110) When I go to rename the file, a message pops up warning the file could be unusable, and I click "ok", and it turns white. I have been at this like 3 hours last night, and around 4 hours today, and can't get it right. And I did this before

A secondary question which is not all that important, can I upgrade to version 9.1 without this business of going through and remapping networked drives. Thank you in advance, help would greatly be appreciated. jeff harr

  6. Hi Pete, thanks for response. There is an email notification check box, and at first it would tell me of a response, and now doesn't. Anyway. I just went through the fsuipc users guide, and under "resetting defaults" you can try using the "reset" buttons, or it says you can just go into the ini file, and delete the section under "joystick calibrations" _it seems if I do that, I will be starting from a completely clean start. Do I need to concern myself with the section under "axes", or do I Ieave that alone?

Thanks for your time and help, Jeff

  7. Hi Pete. I am a newbie, been at this for a year, but had no problems with the old comp with xp, slow graphics though, no problem except if trying to use default MSFT for controls. This Win 7 machine is only about 2 months old.

It occurs to me after browsing forums, by .ini you mean the configurqtion settings file, so here it is. Ini is not marked unless I am mistaken about that too. ::

  8. Hi. The log file I tried to generate, I was trying to see if it would pick up the dropped throttle.

The thing with the elevator axis, before I put in the ch control manager, pushing forward would cause a normal tilt down, yet all of a sudden the plane would make a very abrupt dive.

I will look into the ch forum. Before I deleted the ch manager, the plane would fly beautifully, except for the thing with the dropped throttles. I had suspected there was a conflict with the ch manager. Here is the ini:

I think this is the ini. If you mean something else like the install log.....I can provide that. Thanks, Jeff

  9. Hi Pete. OK, I will look for the next time it reports two running. I find that the forum won't allow me to upload the ini file...it says "can not upload a file of this type" -Could this be because I sit at a mac for my forum reading...Or do I need to find some other way of getting it to you? It also deleted my first response when I tried to upload the files.

I should report something else. When I first set up fs 9 on this Win 7 machine, I had some serious problems with the elevator axis( pushing forward on the yoke, would bring the plane down, but pushing more and the plane would dive and not recover) and I solved this by running and calibrating everything in CH Control Manager. It was after I did this I stumbled on "Compatibility Manager", which I had not known about. I should add that I use fsuipc exclusively for the controls. This led to the plane flying "just right", but the throttle issue crept in, first I could get the plane to read throttle adjustments, or regain them, by just clicking one of the programmed switches, but quickly led to it dropping the throttles completely, and having to run through throttles in "joystick calibrations". Now I have deleted the CH software, it retained all axis's, one strange thing occurred however, the elevator trim (set up on the yoke prop axis) has no effect on the trim of the default King Air 350. But does work on a P. A. D. Beech 1900. I kind of wish I had left the CH software intact.

I also ran a log for about ten minutes, trying to see if the log would catch something, but it only listed the first plane I tried and not the other ones I switched in to produce the issue.

OK, I am going to post this, and then try to repost at the pc the ini and log file. Let me know if I am supposed to use a different method to upload the ini file.

    jeff

  10. Hi, thanks for responding. I have done that, I have "show hidden files/folders checked, I have even done searches with "hide system files" unchecked. It only brings up the one instance of fsuipc.dll. That has been upgraded to 3.9.9.1, as of last night. The error message only says "fsuipc", but searching for that brings up a couple of text files, and then config settings and the key code. I lost track of how many searches I have done, including removing the "index" function.

It is very weird, the yoke and pedals (ch) work fine, the throttle quadrant I have set up as 4 throttles, 1 mix, and 1 prop, and the mix and prop always are fine. Whenever i bring up a plane, or switch planes, I have to go into "joystick calibrations" move the throttle levers, and then the plane will recognize the control. Switch planes and I have to do that again. Then the flight is normal. I have taken snap shots of the modules directory, if that would help. Searching the entire fs9 directory for "fsuipc", will have that file showing up in certain add-ons....I guess I have to investigate that now. But it only shows the one licensed version of fsuipc.dll, 3.9.9.1. This is a recent set up of a new Win 7 pc. it is about a month old. Everything has been installed anew, no folders being copied from back up.

    Hi,

No, there is no FSUIPC.dll from Microsoft. There is an FSUI.dll from Microsoft and that stays.

Search your FS directory for FSUIPC.dll and see how many instances show up.

  11. Hi, my thanks to Pete Dawson for a fantastic product. I need help with an issue where the ch throttle quadrant, the throttles are not being recognized. This is on a Win 7 machine. If I play with the fsuipc joystick programs, it will recognize it for one flight, but then kicks it out. I ran "flight instructor" through compatability manager, and I get an error "2 instances of fsuipc running" I comb through the modules folder, and can not find what it means. There is only 1 fsuipc.dll, version 3.9.8, there are other fsuipc only modules, including a default microsoft one, but they all look like they are necessary. There are no errors being reported in the fsuipc log. The install reports that there was an instance of fsuipc.dll 3.8 running (an add-on?), but can not find what it means. Any help so I can get flying, appreciated. Thanks in advance.
