  1. I know this is slightly off topic but seeing as there are so many people here

who live in Vancouver maybe the question "fits".

In FSX using the default scenery of course there are 2 tower antennas on

the south side of False Creek. The larger one look to be closer to the 2nd &

Main area while the other may be about 2nd & Cambie.

Is this just autogen gone bad? :D Is this just an MS error based on the fact

there is a TV station's studios close to these towers?

They show every time I start FSX. Seeing as how I moved from Vancouver to

Delta 18 years ago maybe they've put up a couple of towers since then. :D

  2. Unfortunately, as a publisher, one cannot really 'plan' well when working with freelance individuals that most often do this work as a 'hobby' .... or run their own little companies.

We had hoped for Stephane to start working on CYVR right after VancouverPlus was released, but instead he chose to work on other projects apparently..... not sure if KPD is the ONLY one he worked on for 8 months now.....

If he's a young guy I would suspect a new young lady may have entered his life. :D

  3. I've "won the lottery" 3 times. :(

1-First installation on my old pc. Folders not added to Add On Scenery folder.

2-After a hard drive failure on that pc reinstalled FS9 and V+ did not install

the files in the Add On folder.

3-Built a new pc, installed FS9 and V+....once again V+ installer did not move

    the folders and files.

Lotto 649 should be that easy! :D

  4. You're right on the money there, Nigel. Microsoft did a very poor job of that

area. Adding Holger's SE BC will shock people when they see the difference.

I just saw this happen all over again. I forgot to install SE BC after a

complete reinstall of FS9. Took one look at CYCG and knew what was wrong. :D

Can you believe Canadian Air used to fly 737-200s into CYCG?!?!

I understand the passenger seats were all Porta-Potties!

  5. Hi,

There was no vertical or lateral separation, and most of the planes had to

    execute missed approaches.

Hans, you should see the "real thing" some days! I sit out at the end of 26R

when the weather is nice and YVR at times has them stacked up for miles.

Most flights for 26L & R grab the localizer at the Alex Fraser bridge. I've seen

an hour or 2 go by where I can see 4 or 5 sets of landing lights the whole

    time. :D

  6. FWIW, my new 7800GTX card has associated speed and temp monitoring software with it. I have seen so far that a game like Call of Duty 2 seems to 'up' the temperature MORE than FS9 for some reason..... or could it be the excitement !!???

This kind of gets back to what I was saying....FS9 is harder on the processor

than the video card. I rarely hear the fan on my video card speed up while

using FS9...even FS9 with all sliders at Max.

  7. Turns out it was CPU-bound

I was "chatting" with a gaming programer on line last year. He told me flight

sim graphic engines are by nature clock cycle hogs. He told me RAM is still

important for a flightsim but CPU speed is everything. He did mention not to

get too fixated on pure clock speed. By that he meant an AMD Athlon64 at

2.4ghz will run FS9 as fast as a 3.8ghz-4.0ghz Pentium. He told me the

Athlon64 processor just does more per clock cycle than the Pentiums.

Interesting to note...I just built a new hotrod pc...Athlon64 4000+, 2 gig of

high speed RAM, Western Digital WD2500KS harddrive, Evga 7800GT Copper

Heatsink 470mhz video card and I "can not" turn on ALL V+ features.

When all are turned on I still get a few stutters....very few but they are still there.

I am still tweaking my general FS9 settings and when I get them set up I will

play with the V+ settings a little more.

Second note...I went with a single processor Athlon64 because there is a

known bug in Windows XP which causes FS9 to run slightly slower on a

Dual Processor chip. MS says it will be fixed on Service Pack 3. Now I

read Vista will be out BEFORE SP3. :(

  8. I guess this is the best place to ask a question.

I thought UT was a landclass replacement? Yet I see many people running

UT and BEV. Does BEV just do a better job of landclass and UT does a better

job of roads, highways and rail lines?

Slightly Off Topic but I have most of my parts for a hotrod PC. I really

want to run V+, FSG 38M, UT & BEV at Ultra High. :D

  9. At least in part it may be triggered by the terrain (read water) elevation refining itself through levels of detail.

I agree with you there. I ran into this when building seaplane bases on

small Pacific islands. When FS9 displayed shallower lighter blue water I

had some troubles even with well behaving aircraft like the ai Boeing B314

    Clipper.

I'm ok with the performance if I turn off marinas and CYPK traffic.

    I'll try that next.

[ Hmm, speaking of our old friend Bill, I wonder if the Zammer would like it? Fantasy Gardens not included.]

I'm sure Willie WoodenShoes would love it. Bill's heart was always in the

right place I'll give him that. :)

that new PC should really do it justice - I am

getting one like it myself too

I doubt we'll ever see it but wouldn't it be nice if Microsoft added

multithreading to Flight Simulator so we could make use of those dual CPU

chips! Even if FS10 had the ability to run just AI on a 2nd processor that

    would help SO much.

  10. Hi Jon

I've been in and out of town and haven't had a chance to buy your

Vancouver+....until today that is. Jon, in the words of that old Premier of BC

    it's FAAAANTASTIC! :D

You and I swaped e:mail quite a ways back just before you started your

Victoria scenery. Both of us, like many others, were picking Holger's brain for

answers to our scenery problems. I was just starting out....maybe 1-2 weeks

into scenery work. You were a few months ahead of me in this crazy

hobby. I've managed to progress a couple of hundred miles down the

road....you on the other hand are a million miles down that same road!

The city I was born and raised in 58 years ago never looked better, Jon.

I did take a frame rate hit but this old 1.35ghz/9600 combo has really

    been showing it's age lately anyways. A new AMD Athlon64 X2 4600 with a

7800GT is in the "parts assemby" stage already.

I did notice one small glitch....something I've seen from my ai_seaplane

(B314 & Sunderland) days. The ai cruise ship....it pitches and rocks either

as it's backing out of Canada Place or just after it does the 180 and starts

to move forward. Contact point issue? Damping? Taxiways/apron setting?

I went crazy on one of my bases ai Sunderalands until I found a taxiway

    set wrong.

Jon, Holger and all the crew....Bravo!

    FaxCap (Ken)
