Why several attempts? How did the earlier ones fail?
The first gave an error from Vista "..... may not have installed properly, do you want to reinstall using recommended settings" - I answered NO to this one - benefit of hindsight I should probably have answered YES. I have since reinstalled a few times without such a message appearing.
I assume the date on that Log file shows it was created before you installed 4.20?Yes - you are correct.
You could prove yourself if you still had 4.12's "FSUIPC4.DLL", by simply copying it into the FSX Modules folderUnfortunately I do not still have the FSUIPC4.DLL file for v4.12 - it was overwritten during installation of V4.20
So, it seems likely something else has changed, or maybe some other add-on has been installed which has disturbed SimConnect in some way.No other addons have been installed since FSUIPC upgrade.
Since FSUIPC4 is not even getting loaded, the first step is to get a SimConnect Log -- the FSX Help Announcement above tells you how to do that. Let me see the resultThanks for putting me straight on this one..... here's the Simconnect log file, not very long, just the one line thus:-

Thanks for the speedy response.... hope the above helps out.

Hello Peter,
I'm running FSX on VISTA 32 bit (I hate it too!) - FSUIPC was working fine with my antivirus and network settings that are unchanged (McAfee Security Suite) but now the Addon Menu is missing (I have read all I can on the help provided for similar issues but have not managed to resolve the problem) - Here is the installation log (note after several attempts at upgrading to FSUIPC v 4.20):-

I have tried to make a Simconnect log file from your instructions - saving the Simconnect.ini file in the same folder as my FSX.cfg but do not get a log in the root after running FSX? - (this may be that I have followed instructions for FS9 judging from the date of your post).
Any help appreciated - thanks and season's greetings!

Hi Jim,
Nice to hear from you again. The tip appreciated but I had taken the rather unusual step of uninstalling the AV and all FW's before attempting to reinstall SC - I regard my simulator as more important!.
Actually I'm sat out in West Africa on my lap-top and not connected to the outside world on that machine so the AV is not so important (at the moment).
The good news is that I tried the sim again today and hey-presto! the addon menu is there!. I just hope it continues that way.
Take care - and I'll be back amongst the real weather on my main machine when I get back to the UK - thanks to Peter Dowson and Active Sky.
Thanks again and keep in touch.
Capt. Dave D.

Have reinstalled Simconnect without any changes - looks like I shall have to run FSX all alone for a while and hope the FSX patch will help? doubt it as I seem to be the only candidate with this particular issue. :(

Thanks Peter - I have sent the information to the microsoft guru's as requested today. for what it may be worth here is the Simconnect log file printout:-

Yes Symantec = Norton, I'm security minded but not quite that crazy :)
Thanks again will try a reinstall of Simconnect later and revert...

I have read and acted on the various bits of information in readme files and on the web but... my problem still exists in that I do not see the 'Addon' in FSX menu.
I have taken following actions after the installation reports that the installation of FSUIPC v4.07 (latest) was OK...
1) placed FSX as a trusted item in the Norton Firewall settings (no difference)
2) reinstalled FSUIPC (no change)
3) uninstalled Symantec Firewall (no change)
4) Uninstalled Symantec Anti-virus (no change)
5) uninstalled all Symantec software [systemworks 2006] (no change)
6) disabled Windows firewall (no change)

Your assistance appreciated as I can't run any map, weather external programs that need FSUIPC (oh I have the registered version).

Hello - I have just aquired a Saitek X52 Pro flight controller system (joystick and throttle) and whilst busy trying to sort out some non-working assignments on the X52 checked that I had exactly the same button assignments in FSUIPC and FSX settings. Here I noticed a difference in the joystick button assignments - FSUIPC is aparently using a base of 0 as the first button (or at least this is what shows up in FSUIPC when I depress the trigger button on the flight stick) whereas FSX uses a base of 1 (if I try to check this switch assignment in FSX the settings will assign the number 1 to the same trigger button). All button numbering is offset by 1 digit.
Is this just my system and will it cause conflicts between FSX and FSUIPC when assigning commands to the X52 and other external user input devices?.
I do experience some problems in getting the simlulator to [for example] raise/lower the landing gear by assigning 'G' to a flight stick switch using FSUIPC - it just refuses to work?.
Am I missing something here - is there any work around to get FSUIPC and FSX using the same button/switch numbers?.
Is it correct that what ever is set to happen in FSUIPC re buttons n switches that these also need to be mirrored in FSX settings?.
Rather confused, but I am getting on a bit.... any assistance appreciated.
This topic is also under discussion on the Saitek support forum http://www.saitekforum.com/showthread.php?t=10786

Thanks Peter - I now have it all working fine, guess I should have realised that the client computer should have the program resident. Thanks for your time mate... Dave

Having purchased the registration for both FSUIPC and WideFS I was somewhat disappointed to find that FSNav would not work with WideFS to dispaly the moving map on my laptop. My fault and I should have done some more research before the outlay.
I then discovered the FS Flight Keeper and read of how this utility can run on a second computer with WideFS support. Plumped for the trial version of FSFK first to see if I could finally get a moving map functioning on the lap top whilst FS9 was running on my main simulator computer. All WideFS and FSUIPC are latest versions and so far I have yet to see anything appear on my laptop other than a large white WideClient screen.
FSFK is installed on the main computer that runs FS9. Every time I try to get FS Flight Keeper up and running on the WideFS all I get is an error message "WideClient could not run "\\Computername\Program Files\FS Flight Keeper\FLKeeper.exe" [Error 53].
I have shared the relevant folders over the network and firewalls are OFF but yet to see anything on the laptop screen in WideFS - all rather disappointing. I will gladly purchase FS Flight Keeper only IF I can get to see it functioning on the secondary laptop screen.
Should I have FS Flight Keeper installed on the laptop? - it is presently installed on my main computer that runs FS9. If I try and run FS Flight Keeper from the laptop (over the LAN) I get the startup but all closes down on the "reading configuration, please wait...." opening sequence.
Any offers of what I need to do or am doing wrongly? - thanks.

Thanks Peter - the mail is on the way to you withy details of both keys, I would like to keep the current e-mail address of draky@btinternet.com - thanks.

Hello Peter,
I registered my FSUIPC some time long ago when I was living in Australia with an e-mail address of draky@brightonline.com.au and this information seems to be stored in my FSUIPC registration data.
Today I purchased the key to activate my WideFS - the key arrived but when I try to enter this key into the WideFS registration window my old e-mail address of draky@brightonline.com.au is recorded as part of my details. I purchased the KEY for WideFS with an e-mail address of draky@btinternet.com so this is probably why the key will not work as my details are different (change of e-mail address). I do not appear to be able to change the e-mail address in the registration window. Perhaps I am missing a simple step here?.
How do I get round this problem to enable registration for WideFS under the new e-mail address? thank you.
Dave
v4.12 to v4.2 - Loss of Addon Menu
in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
Posted
Peter - thanks but our posts crossed - I have since my last post deleted the DLL.XML file and run the FSUIPC install again thus creating a new XML.DLL file and it all now runs fine!!! - my addon has returned to the menu bar - FSUIPC is now loading and fully operational!. Many thanks for your kind help and support and may I take this opportunity to thank you for all your hard work in making continual improvements to FSUIPC that makes simulated flights so much more enjoyable for us all.
Thanks again - now to put a few additional lines in my new DLL.XML to get my traffic back again.... have a great Christmas.
Here is the new DLL.XML file that may assist others reading this post.......
