  1. Pete,

The Project M's MCP software is controlling the CPflight MCP hardware and of course, the PM GC displays.   When I show the PM MCP window, and either work the buttons on it or turn the CPflight MCP hardware buttons and dials, it shows up on the PM MCP.  Either or.  Of course,  I have it set for the PM MCP software to recognize the CPflight MCP hardware, and which ever one I turn dials or buttons on, it will show on the PM GC displays.

I thought you were still active with PM and Enrico.  A year ago he came on remote cause my PM software was acting strange and he, by going right onto the PC,  found some errors and re structured things.   Anyway, I have been trying to reach him for 2 weeks, and nothing.   The last e mail from him was where he asked me to send him my ini files, which I did.

So given that you know everything there is to know about home flight simming, if I don't want PM anymore, what should I get?   I had talked with Prosim, but at $1,200 US that was a bit pricey.   This PMDG for $70 us, and you say is complete,  I would assume comes with the ability to bring up its glass cockpit displays?  Are they of a good quality that I can drag them down and use as my GC displays?   Would its software work better with my CPflight MCP hardware and any future plug and play EFIS unit I might get?   If not, what besides Prosim should I look at?

    Thanks

  2. Pete, thanks for the info, but now I am more confused than ever.

Your right, I am using the Project Magenta's 737-800 from their site for now.

As of right now, my CPflight MCP 2004 MCP hardware unit DOES work with Project M's MCP software and or just with the Project M's 737-800.   When Project M's MCP boots up in the background, the CPflight's MCP hardware comes on automatically next.  There is in the Project M's  MCP ini file even a line that you put on or yes to that your using a CPflight unit with its com port #.   And when you make adjustments with the CPflight MCP unit, it shows up in the Project M's GC displays.  So all is OK there.

Its just when I go into FSUIPC to buttons, and try to program AP or AT disconnect, I am not sure just what or where to go.   Like I had said before Project M's MCP software, I could go into FSUIPC or P3D controls/buttons thru my Leo Badnar board and set AT or AP  disconnect OK.

When Enrico went into my sim PC thru Teamviewer about a few weeks ago,  I asked him to check out this problem and he went into FSUIPC to buttons, then went to the lists on the right for push and release and scrolled down to the PM items and clicked PM MCP off or master (one of those) but nothing happened after he had hung up.  I think even he was unsure just what to do?

So what is layman's terms do you think is the problem and what should I try next.   I did check out this PMDG 737 site and prob will buy their plane, if everyone is using it.

    Thanks

  3. Pete, I think this is the lists you want me to go to?   Was off one of your docs from the USFICP download.    But if correct, but do I do now?   I saw the different panels and such and codes/number for each item listed.  Thanks

  4. Not sure where to respond to you, but I think in this area.

What does PMDG stand for?   Is it Project M or some other airplane software?    If it is Project M's MCP software your talking about, I was at that custom controls at the top of the list,  however, I think it showed a Hex number or some other number that I have to put in?  I think Enrico had e mailed me that the number 99 was to be used?   Just what do I put in that custom controls window?      Thanks

  5. 1 hour ago, Pete Dowson said:

Okay, so CPFlight's MCP comes with a PMDG driver? Because the PMDG controls are not standard P3D controls.

The PMDG autopilot is most certainly not using P3D controls. You need to assign to the custom controls published by PMDG.

Sorry, I don't know what's going on there. But you need to use the 737NGX's own controls.  There's a list in PMDG's own documents -- see the 737NGX SDK folder. The .h file there lists them at the end. you assign by number in FSUIPC as <custom control>s.

    Pete

    Hi Pete,

What is PMDG stand for?   Is it something with Project M?   I only use Project M 737-800 default with P3Dv4.

    Thanks

  6. Hi Pete, been a while.  Here is the problem.  I loaded PM's MCP software and have CPflight older MCP unit.  I am flying PM's P3D 737-800 model from their web site.  Before I loaded PM MCP, I was able to use the CPflight MCP hardware with the PM 737-800 default MIP panel and with PM's GC displays, (but with no FD or some other items) but it did work.  Now when I try thru FSUIPC to get the AP or AT disconnects to work nothing happens.  Enrico even tried by remote call into the sim PC but nothing happened when he hung up.    I have attached all my ini files if that helps you fig out what might be off.  What is strange is that when I program AP or AT dis in FSUIPC it makes the default PM 737's AP engage light flash and then a continuous cut off sound keeps going till I turn off the CPflight MCP hardware.  It must be a simple thing but any help you can send my way will be great.

  7. Hi Pete,

I see that there are 2 Widefs 6.75s in your download page. Are they one in the same or is one for fs2004 and the one thats in the FSX box for that only?

I have fs2004 and am thinking of getting FSX. For your combo package of FSUIPC and WIDEFS downloads, what is the USA cost about?

Do I have to download always your FSUIPC and WIDEFS software onto the computer that will be running it, or can I recieve them on my office PC and e mail them then to my sim PC?

Since its impossible to ever contact the boys at CP Flight, do you know if I will have to get some sort of an upgrade to run their MCP unit with FSX?

    Thanks

    Randy

  8. Hi,

I did what you said and got the reversers to work correctly now.

Funny thing is that I assigned throttle #1 push to Throttle Incr (thru your modules buttons/switches section) and then release to Throttle #1 set. When I then tested just that #1 throttle, it would reverse, but very slowly and not at much power. Once though, I programmed throttle #2 the same way, then they both went to almost full power for reverse, and now when I close the reverse down, reverse shuts off correctly and I don't have to move the throttles a little forward to shut off reverse as was the case before.

Before I set them thru your modules section, I did go into the game's assignments and saw that one of the throttles was set to Engine dec quickly, but when I went to delete that, so I could program it in your modules without conflict, it would not let me delete it. Maybe now that I have both throttles assigned thru your buttons, its gone from the game's assignments. I will check it later.

Thanks anyway for the tip on programming reverse.

    Randy

  9. Hi Master Pete. Good your back.

I have 2 rev levers that have a mirco switch each that works reverse. I have it programmed thru the 2004 assig of buttons area. I think its call "reverse engine thrust." I raise them to reverse and they do OK, but when I close them down, the reverse stays on. The only way to shut off reverse, is to then move the main thrust levers just a hair forward, and reverse shuts off. Any ideas on what I can do? I have not yet tried to assign them thru your modules pull down under buttons/switches. If I should try it, which one of the items controls reverse for a twin jet plane?

    Thanks

    Randy

  10. Hi Pete,

First, disregard that making toggles reverse topic. I got it to work right now.

I have a few GoFlight 45 mod rotary switchs/knobs. They act like all the same ones that, lets say, are used on the MCP to set heading or speed. They don't have a set stopping point per turn, like "real rotary switch, but each little small "click" will registar (show its value) in your module's buttons and switches. However, I am not sure if it will work thru your module, as I tried to set one "click" (like a switch function) for increase dec height, but nothing happened.

What type of switch or button do I need to use to set DH and Baro press? I assume that I must use increase and decrease dec. height to set that?

Do you know how others or yourself, are setting these two items and what hardware one can use?

    Thanks

    Randy

  11. Hi,

I push down (its like a toggle action type pushbutton) my EFIS VOR display button, that was programmed thru Pete's module pull down (I used the settings boxes where you enter it twice in the lower right hand part of the settings window, one for pushed and the other for release), and it turns it off on the ND and if I push it up or release it, it turns VOR on. Same for anything else programmed on these toggle type pushbuttons (they are from a real plane).

How can I reverse the action to have them turn things on, when pushed down and then off when pushed back to up position.

    Randy

  12. Pete,

I will do what you said, but also write down just what I see happening and get any numbers or data that I can. Its possible that the 2 items you mention, might be the answer. Multi same settings and/or the Hub.

I have plugged right into the PC also, with the same results.

Do you know if a Hub that appears to be working, actually still be at fault? Could a failing Hub appear fine, I should ask.

  13. Hi,

My setup first: 3 PCs, main server XP with fs2004, PM-Capt client ME and PM-MCP client ME, with CP FLight MCP unit and no CDU. PMsounds. Have all the latest builds for fs2004 only. Everthing pretty much works fine except this problem:

I have some GoFlight boards and "guts" only (45s, T8s and P8s) mounted behind "real" EFIS, NAV, DH, Transpond, etc units. This gives a really real neato effect to any sim, by using the hidden boards and guts from GoFlight, but without the very generic faceplates look.

Now that I fixed my problem whereby I can use my Capt's ND and PFD (thats another story), I start up a flight, go into FSUIPC go to Buttons and Switches and then on my EFIS (USB plugged into the main fs 2004 sever PC) and push one of the buttons down. I then see a number in FSUIPC (something like this but might not be exact 105 - #4). I click both FS and include Magenta check boxes and then go down the list of items to lets say PM ND sys POS and then click OK. Then I might turn my range ring rotory 5 postion switch and I get another set of numbers and do the same thing and assign PM ND range ring 20.

Now here is where it gets strange and I don't know if I should of rebooted or done something else or maybe I am using the wrong kinda of buttons or switches, though they once worked years ago OK:

Now with the game still running, I push down that first EFIS button that I assigned sys POS and my ND will go to VOR 1 mode. Or I will turn the range ring knob and get after a few clicks range 5 or 40 and not 20, which was the only one set. Sometimes I will turn the Mode knob and instead of getting MAP or AAPT or Ctr or Plan modes, the landing gear will go down on one position while nothing will happen on the other knob positions, even though I had program them to start with.

Whats interesting is that if I take the USB of my EFIS unit and now put it into my PM MCP client PC, and use the old Goflight Remote to set those same EFIS items, they will just about do the same things as from FSUIPC when they were on the main server.

So since I am getting strange results from both main server (FSUIPC) or client (GoFlight Remote), I am wondering if either my input devices are screwed up, (but I can see them assign!!!) or I am not programming them correct in FSUIPC. GoFlight Remote is more plug and play and years ago it worked, but of course there have been so many changes to the softwares and sim builds, who knows.

I can though with the same as said above, assign (esp with FSUIPC) OK regular simple, fs2004 MIP functions with switch items like NAV lights on/off or with GoFlights main software, things like gear up and down with the rotory.

    Any thoughts would be helpful.

    Randy

ps, I have read all the docs, but on some, as usual, don't understand a damm thing.

  14. Hi,

I have not flown the sim for over a year, thats why I am in a software time worm hole. Of course I would pay for FSX and your software, if the day ever comes that I win the lottery.

So now I have it all down and straight:

    1. I will delete all goflight software and then reload, per goflight's orders.

    2. Upgrade all builds and software from you and PM.

    3. Since I will be using for a while FS2004, only use FSUIPC for FS2004 and not FSUIPC4 which is for FSX.

    4. If nothing still works, set sim on fire and try another hobby.

    Randy :P

  15. Hi Pete,

First off, I was told by many people and I think you have a post about if one wants to update to FSX, one will need to of course always update your FSUIPC and WIDEFS (both of which I have now and working good, but on versions about a year old) and this will require paying a little fee. About $60 usa. Am I wrong here?

Of note, I was able to contact GoFlight and Doyle and I have 2 ways to go. One is delete all my old GoFlight software and reload them again (good for my fs2004) and the other way is upgrade to fsX and upgrade all builds and programs.

One question. Can I stay with fs2004 and still upgrade FSUIPC and WIDEFS to their current versions (whether paying for them or not) along with upgrading PM builds, and not have a conflict with fs2004?

    Thanks Pete,

    Randy

  16. Hi all,

I have been having problems with assigning GoFlight EFIS items to work with Magenta. Though I can pull down and assign, in FSUIPC or GoFlight's Remote, things like range ring, APPT, VOR, Map modes, DH, Baro Press, just to name a few, they do not take anymore in PM on the PFD/ND display. As a test I took the 2 GoFlightT8 and P8 boards that were on my MCP client and plugged them into the main server PC, where the game is and again thru FSUIPC was able to go to buttons and assign both FS and PM and go down the list of items, but nothing happens on PM. If I assign the same EFIS boards to main MIP default things, like Nav lights or AP on/off, then it works on the defaulf MIP when brought up, but nothing on PM. I use CPFlight MCP and it wont go on the the AP on, but again the default MCP will.

Though these items did at one time all work OK just thru GoFlight's Remote, is there something that I am missing here to do or set, to make GoFlight talk to PM for MCP/EFIS items. If not, see next paragraph......

I see that Dowson now has this GFDisplay and will try it. One thing, I was reading the docs for it and could not determine if its a simple assign thing like the main FSUIPC or will I have to program items as I try to assign EFIS buttons and rotorys?

Also of concern, is I am flying fs2004 with 2 clients for PFD/ND and the other for MCP and engines, with no CDU and CPFLight's MCP unit. Dowson mentions that in the GFDisplay I would need to update to latest versions of his software. Is that so? I am on all builds that are about a year old. Jonathan from PM had mentioned that I might want to stay where I am at with builds, in that, since I am not using fsX, I might not want to see all the new graphics and such, however, if this GFDisplay needs the new ones, how do I upgrade if paying money is required. How do I send in funds and to where.

    Thanks

  17. Hi,

I had the same thing where they (my pots) would show 0 in the joystick section when setting. Sometimes they would go from lets say 0 or about

-16300 right to +16,300. If you looked at the quad window in the game, one would see the controls jump right to full, with no middle ground. I rebooted everything, and recalib. then they seemed to be OK.

On the Rev thing, is it that you have one or 2 throttles, and you want an idle zone and then if you move them all the way back a tad, they will go into Rev. if thats what you want, then make sure your throttles are showing the full range of numbers then move them all the way back and hit the Rev set, then move forward and hit top idle then move a hair more forward and hit 2nd idle set, then move them all the way forward and hit the full range set. If you then move your throttles into this idle zone, thats what it will be, and just pull them all the way now back, and you should get Rev.

  18. Hi,

I have a real cockpit setup with the axis on "pots" thru GoFlights I/O quad boards only (just piggybacking off of them).

Anyway, anyone know of more ways or areas to go into and set the roll and pitch to be more responsive. It might be my plane's flight model that slows the axis maybe during slow speeds with flaps, but roll and pitch should not be as slow to respond as I notice. One thing is when I use lets say the Learjet, responce is better. So other than tossing this model (kittyhawk 737-700) if you know of some codes that I can change or enter, please let me know.

    Thanks

    Randy

  19. Pete,

If I was not around, what fun would you have?

If my posts come across "insulting", sorry for that. None of my close sim friends really know or fully understand everything related to your sim programming, either. I mean guys who are very smart and have great sims, but seem limited also as to how many functions and systems they actually have working.

For me, I can only try to read yours docs and take what I can from them. Its frustrating to not be able to implement all the uses of your programs. I would love to have a "more real" and complete sim.

If there is anyone out there that would like to earn some pay for one on one instructional lessons (most likely over the phone) on Pete's programs, their uses and implementation, please contact me.

  20. GoFlight equipment

GoFlight buttons and rotary dials can also be programmed here

    ...

If the “button” is in fact a toggle or rotary then you may need to toggle it or turn it twice. This is because, when programming (only) FSUIPC is only looking for changes from “off” to “on”, so it won’t see a change from “on” to “off”. This is necessary because of the way some multi-way switches work.

With the GoFlight rotaries there will be four different button numbers available—in sequence, fast left, slow left, slow right, fast right (i.e. like video recorder controls:

    << < > >>

To get the “fast” values you will have to turn the rotaries quite fast. Sometimes, though, turning them too fast seems to cause nothing to be seen! You need to experiment before committing any assignments.

Please note that rotary input is implemented by alternately setting a switch on then off. Each change will usually be one ‘click’ of the knob. If you want action on each and every click you will have to program the same thing on both the “press” and “release”. Do not set the repeat option with the rotary switches.

This part above, which doc was that in?

Other than that, I have concluded after just reading your GFdisplay docs, that no one could possibly understand them or for that matter, all your docs, unless they were very exp. software programmers. If your telling me that GFdisplay docs and parts of FSUPIC are easy to use, then I have the London Bridge over in the desert to sell you, cheap. Would you not like to see it back in London.

That explains why no one has come up with a very clear and complete "explain all book or guide" on how to use 99% of sim related products and functions.

See the ones that understand this stuff, can't write any simple guide for the layman, and visa versa, ones that do not know this stuff, can never understand it. So its a stand off. You try your best to explain things but only a very, very, very few get it. I know many, many who agree with me.

If things were differient, maybe more people could come to enjoy this hobby to its fullest.

Hopefully soon someone will come up with a complete add-on package of units and displays, that work and have easy to understand instructions!

Heck, in the end, its all something that can be programmed ahead of time and sold as an easy to use, plug and play package with easy pull down options. GoFlight and CPFLight have the right idea. They just need to fine tune things.
