  1. Hi Volker

Thank you.  I know the procedure, I was not familiar with the terminology.

It was the "not permissible" bit that disturbed me most.  Who doesn't permit it?  I asked myself. Am I breaching terms of purchase? I worried.

I'll look further at the folder/drive sharing aspect of the lengthy "warning" comment.

Incidentally, I have solved the linkage problem - firewalls were on.

    Regards

    Frank

  2. Hi Volcker

I have recently bought JetMax737 to add some more reality to my simulating.  At my age (81) you'd think I'd know better.  But putting it all together and overcoming various problems has been fun, and the result is very satisfying.  In the process, my computer builder re-installed the BIOS, Windows and FSX software leaving me to get everything else installed, not least the invaluable FS Commander.  I am using iFly 737 CBE.

    FSUIPC is version 4.929

    WideFS is version 6.999

FSC is the downloaded version 9.5 and DbManager is the same - installed on my 2nd computer.

    My AIRAC provider is Navigraph.

    and the O/S is Win7-64

When I try to update using the DbManager I get  "Warning!!! You have mounted & shared the folder in which the Flight Simulator is located. etc etc"

What does this mean? I have never seen such a message before, and I have been using your great utility for many years. It does give me the option of proceeding but at some risk that data may not be complete.  How do I overcome it?

As you can see above, I use WideFS to link my 2nd computer to my "flying" computer, but so far I am unable to get WideFS to link so I can't see if any airfields are incorrect.

A complication might be that I have FSX also on the 2nd computer, where I do all my other flying, notably low & slow. However, the DbManager does allow me to point to the FSX on my main computer.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards

    Frank

  3. Hi Michael

FSC is reading another AFD. For example, I use UK2000 Xtreme APs. When I recently installed all my stuff into a new PC I had that problem.

    Two things cause it:

    1) There may be more than one AFD for the airport you are using.

    2) FSC is reading the wrong one.

I found out from Volker Heine, sometime ago that the location of the UK2000 file is wrongly written in the scenery.cfg. I had to go through and change all of the last lines. "F:/FSX" needed to be deleted in my case.

Do you have AFX? With that you can find APs with duplicate AFD files. Delete all but the one you want, BUT never remove the Stock file.

If you open an airport in the FSC window, it will show the name of the file it is reading.

    Hope this helps.

    Frank

  4. Just to say that I still haven't been able to get FSC going. A good friend, who is more skilled with computers than I, is helping. He is also an FS enthusiast and builds our PCs.

My problem could be that the 'demoted' PC was the client in the previous setup, and I wish to keep FSX on it. But it has to now serve the new Main FSX computer.

They are networked, of course, and I have full FSUIPC4 & WideFS, so that link should be no problem.

I will feed back when we have got it running again.

    Frank

  5. Hi Volcker

That "About" and "Register" is ringing bells - muffled ones. Thanks for the reminder, and the offer of further direct help. I may need it

and - Thanks Otto. I don't have the boxed version. It is a download, and I have the zip file safely stored on my NAS. I read and read, but didn't spot the About/register thing. I believe that will solve it. I will try later and report back.

    Best regards to you both

    Frank

  6. Hi Volcker

I have just taken delivery of a new PC and am trying to install FSC. I thought I had kept all the necessary information, but after several hours of trying and thinking and trying again I cannot get it installed.

SimMarket has details of my purchases: V8 in 2007 and V9 upgrade in January 2010. I also have my new key number for V9.

Then I am stuck. I seem to be only able to install the trial version and cannot find a way to register my key.

I am sorry to trouble you, but I would value your guidance.

I put it down to old age (80 next month) and wonder if it's time to give all this up.

My 2nd PC is uses Vista, and my new one is on W7.

    Many thanks

    Frank

  7. Hi Pete

I have installed 4.85. Thank you for the pointer (Ian -Thanks to you too).

The complex PMDG does seem to be the problem. I did as you suggested and restored the Ultralight at Friday Harbour as the default. All the PFC units work in that start up. Also I was able to close without having two bites at the cherry.

The 737NGX seems to have been the cause. Now I know a bit more about these drivers, I may be able to discover how best to run the 737. I rarely look at fps (since the advent of FSX). I have had no difficulty in flying the 737, but will be watching fps closer in future.

Out of interest here is the latest FSUIPC.LOG:-

It still looks like an interrupted process to me. Is that extra info the result of the lines you told me to add to the INI?

  9. Thanks for that rapid reponse, Pete.

  10. Hi Pete

I have used the full FSUIPC and PFC software for over 10 years. Both have always been indispensable and reliable. My PFC equipment is - Single Professional Console (non USB); Avionics; and rudder pedals.

My current software versions are FSUIPC4 4.84 and PFCFSX.dll 4.40

A recent change of unit positions, involving no new hardware and no software changes, has thrown up a strange problem.

PFC has disappeared from the FSX Add-ons dropdown menu. The latest PFCFSX.dll remained in the Modules folder. I have tried changing that, but the fault remains.

Initially I suspected a faulty cable, but X-Plane "sees" these units and continues to work properly. I think this eliminates any hardware fault.

I now suspect a file corruption somewhere, but where?

Do you have any ideas? I haven't tried a re-install of FSUIPC yet.

    Best regards

    Frank

  11. I run FSC on a Vista32 driven PC, through WideFS linked to FSX Acceleration on a dedicated PC running Windows7 - 64 bit. It is 'housed' on C:\FSC9

I have just become aware of the "bug fix" produced last month, which will apparently clear one of my problems (Max/Min), but I am bemused by my FSC folder. It contains several FSC.exe files for instance.

I have my latest key number, so I would like to download the full version 9 and start again. It will presumably contain the bug fix. Can I do that? I purchased through Simmarket. And, is it likely to be beneficial?

It's an amazing utility, by the way. It really fills the gap left by the highly regarded FSNavigator.

    Frank

  12. Hi Frank,

    Have you read this:

and would you please give us the information we have ask for.

Would you also please read this: http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66473-file-not-found-or-no-access-only-for-network-users/

    and also this: http://forum.simflight.com/topic/66555-fsc-90-bug-fix-new-23112010/

You find the FSX Scenery Library Network Tool FSCFSXCFG.exe in the FSCommander main folder.

    Volker

    Hi Volker

Many thanks for that very rapid reply. I sit here feeling very stupid. I did look in the FSC folder and just did not see the Tool. I have now used it as directed and all is well.

Please accept my apologies for not giving the required details. It was very kind of you to respond so helpfully. I had already read the links you gave, and had updated to the 23112010 versions.

I still enjoy FS (after about 18 years) and doing most of my maintenance myself, but I have a younger enthusiast friend who is a computer expert and builds my PCs to order. My problem is age. I will be 78 tomorrow, but I don't intend to give up.

Best regards and seasonal good wishes

    Frank

  13. I am having difficulty in getting FSCDbManager to run. I have copied the scenery.cfg to the FSX folder and renamed, as directed in the manual, but it will not link. I get to the point where the FSX Directory is seen, but not the scenerycfg.fsc file.

I cannot find the FSX Scenery Library Network Tool. Where can I get that?

I am reinstalling, having upgraded my PC. I've used FSCommander on the network successfully before. I can't think what I am now doing wrong. I do know I had the Tool before. Help appreciated.

    Frank

  14. Hi Pete

I've just gone through that lengthy process of complete re-install. Reason - I've moved on from Vista64 to Win7 64. Also, I've ditched Triple Head to Go in favour of 2 x GTX460 nVidia graphics cards,SLI linked. My screen resolution is now 4800 x 1200 (5050 x 1200 to allow for bezels).

At some stage the presentation of PFC's mini-window has changed. It was OK early on in the re-install process, as I had to set the Com. Nowadays though I follow advice you gave me some time ago and prog buttons in FSUIPC4. So I hadn't looked at it for awhile. Yesterday, I found that the frame of the mini-window is normal size but the contents have enlarged so that some parts cannot be seen. The visible part is the top left quarter. On the other hand, FSUIPC comes up as normal.

In all the years I've been using your utilities I've never seen this before. Any ideas?

    Best regards

    Frank Jones
