  1. To be exact, mid-2007 is on July 1st. You guys remind me of the kids in the back seat asking, "Are we there yet?".

    Bob F.

I appreciate you making that fine-line distinction Bob, but the fact is it doesn't matter really. What does matter is that nothing has been posted by the author.

Maybe he doesn't even read his own forum. Maybe, if he does read the comments we post, it irritates him that we are so nit-picky. But to be honest, one way or the other, it's his program that we paid for and he at least owes us a post to bring us up to date on when, or if this program will go forward and when that "might" be.

This is beginning to take on the look of another "groundbreaking" utility known as AFCAD by Lee Swordy who had a reputation of being hermit like. This guy never answered questions, was very difficult to contact and rarely, if ever, gave information on his program. He was working on a new version of AFCAD that would have revolutionized scenery design. . .then poof! Gone!

Maybe it's the FSX "language" that is doing these guys in. . .I don't know. In Lee's case it was a freeware program and so falling off the end of the earth was disappointing to us, but we'll get over it and move to whatever takes the place of AFCAD. For FSNav, maybe it's the same scenario. Maybe we'll simply get over it's loss and find another program.

    Very well said mate :)

FS-Commander would be a really alternative for people that want to use autopilot, AIRAC cycles, SID/STARS etc. though it´s not designed to work as an ingame application like FS-Nav was. I mean life changes for everyone of us and priorities are changing, we´re all getting older and maybe the author doesn´t care anymore of his software development for the MSFS community. Well would be very sad but I do understand it if it is so.

  2. I find that I don’t really miss FSNavigator anymore. I used to be one of its chief promoters, but since I have FSX and no access to FSNavigator, I have had to learn about the usages of the GPS in the FSX program and how to intelligently prepare a flight plan using the Flight Planner option.

I kinda agree with you but is it possible to add an updated AIRAC to FSX without using external programs like FS Commander or something like that? I mean if you´re going to sit only on outdated intersections and GPS fixes then it´s not easy to file in a realistic flightplan with the ingame flightplanner or have I missed something? I would like to know if is possible to use for example Richard Stefans AIRAC Cycles to stay updated. If that is possible then I would prefer the approach you´ve written above :)

  3. This is what I also want to know. There is a statement on the website that FSNav5 is coming for FSX Mid. 2007. Now we have end of April and it´ll be appreciated if the the author post a small information on what he/she´s doing on FSNav and what we all can expect. Due to the fact that FSNav 4.7 is a bit outdated i´ve switched entirely to FSC 8.1 but i´m going to use FSNav 5 if we get a suitable program. Would be cool to get some news. Thank you :)

  4. To have FSNav running via Network you need it to be coded as an external and independant program like FSCommander. But then you need WideFS and FSUIPC which costs money if you want to use network support for various programs. That´s what I know but in fact it would be a great feature if FSNav would come as an external program of course. Nice idea :)

  5. I think it´s a bit of both:

    - Moderation and quality assurance of uploaded SID/STARS (requires manpower)

    - Also AIRAC cycles needed!

My EDDK SID/STAR package was done with the 0612 AIRAC from navigraph and it was efficient. Though if you still have an older version of AIRAC I don´t believe that my SID/STAR wouldn´t work with older versions. If the fixes are missing, FS Navigator would only point this out as a LON/LAT value (an unnamed fixpoint) but the SID/STAR would still work.

Updated AIRACs only help you to recreate SID/STARS to their current version if you have the right charts and even to have always updated charts (because SID/STARS) are changed frequently, you will have to spent lots of money to stay current. I guess I can feel how this work would end.

Maybe then FS Navigator would´ve costs hundrets of Euros instead of a fews ;)

It took me alone more than 1 hour to create only one airport SID/STAR package as a hobby sim-pilot and to read charts and it´s navigational meaning. Now calculate this on all airports or the most common ones. YIKES   :D

And yes. Everyone can create SID/STARS and it needs proof whether they are made by persons who know how to create them which are reliable or just scriptkiddies who have their fun to ruin such stuff. So I guess that is mostly the reason why the upload function does not work anymore. But only Jesus knows AND the devs :)

But what do I talk here :)

  6. As far as I know the upload function still does work but your changes aren´t accepted anymore. I´ve done two or three additions last week and they weren´t accepted. Well to say it uploaded very well but after downloading all the SID/STARS again for a test, my addition wasn´t listed and i´ve read here and there the the self created stuff will not be accepted anymore and I ask myself why?

I know there are suitable reasons but i´d like to know the reasons from an official :)

The only way is to offer your SID/STARS for free via a website or try to post them here on the forum. Maybe let´s start to create a thread (maybe pinned) where SID/STARS can be collected officially and offered to the community for free but without any given support? Would be an idea at least :)

  7. Hallo zusammen,

    Danke schonmal :)

  8. I would like to see support for online networks like IVAO and/or VATSIM like displaying regions where Controllers are online and that maybe the program signals you to contact the next CTR two minutes before entering his airspace. Would be a cool feature if this is possible :D

Just a thought but not mandatory. Also I would to see the possibility to add airway routes to a flightplan so that you have a chance to optimize an auto calculated route like this as an example a flight from EDDK to LSZH:

    KUMIK L603 BOMBI N850 NATOR T723 RILAX

Just my additions I would like to see and have in a next version release :)

  9. I´ve paid 10 Euros to get the latest AIRAC data from Navigraph which is IMHO well spent money. After you´ve downloaded the AIRAC cycle you have to rebuild the entire FSNav Database again so that the new/updated waypoints are accurate and available.

But to have updated SID/STARS you either have to build them yourself by choosing the correct waypoints from official Airport SID/STARS maps or you stay with all the old SID/STARS available from the FSNav website. I myself started to created new SID/STARS for my home airport EDDK. It is not that easy but I hope i´ve done them accurate. They are based on SID/STARS maps from the online network IVAO, because I fly mostly online and not offline and therefore I need accurate SID/STARS for IVAO and the default ones are out of date.

  10. This biggest disappointment I see in the FS community is, that we all have to pay for every stuff extra. I know that the FS products are a big merchandising thingie and that everyone wants profit but when I see such a great program like FSNavigator I would appreciate if the author of this program would offer SID/STARS and/or AIRACs for free of charge. This would mean, to have a cooperation with Navigraph. Personally I don´t waste anymore money to get updated AIRACs or whatever from Navigraph. As for the time beeing it´s gonna to expensive for me at least.

    just my 2 cents.

Sascha, it´s simple - give me the source (for free and legal too) which contains all your requirements, and i will do it for free. The other option is the current via Navigraph.

    Thank you,

    Richard

No no. It´s okay Richard. I´ve understood and respect the decision why it is NOT free of charge. Also I did not want to rant against this service. In fact I do appreciate it that someone does AIRACs and all the other stuff and I think honestly that a 10 Euro fee with 100 credits is fair enough to start with. Thanks for the service Richard :)

  12. Hallo Marco!

Ansonsten kann ich dieses Wettertool nur empfehlen!

Also dann frohe Feiertage und einen juten Rutsch!

    Gruß Ingo alias Bermuda-Bernhard

    Hallo,

  14. Hello,

i´m new to this community. But from what i´ve experienced (i´m an NVIDIA user), you are right. Setting all the sliders to max. performance increases the ingame FPS. That´s true but sometimes my system still utilizes 1-2 seconds to load some graphics while flying and I don´t know why. But I can live with that if it does not happen during starts/landings ;)

EDIT: I´ve also set my ingame colours back from 32bits to 16bits which also helps getting some more FPS.
