Raymond van Laake Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 I have the feeling I am overlooking something very simple.... where can I read how high I am flying above the ground? (Meaning: the distance between the ground and my aircraft) I want to use this to check that pilots doing a low-level training flight (over a hilly terrain) indeed stay low. Thx, Ray
Markus Wichmann Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 Hi! To get this exactly you have to use a radar altimeter - most military acr use this to perfom low altitude flight, e.g. the Tornado has this instrument linked to the flight guidance system to follow the terrain in extrem low altitude at high speed (100 ft.) - perhaps ther is a gps that has the altitude data linked with the pressure altitude and that shwos you the differenez or you can do this for yourself by using charts with altitude data. Regards, Markus
BrunoBL Posted September 3, 2004 Report Posted September 3, 2004 Hi, If you are into programming you can check offset 31E4. By reading it, FSUIPC emulates height above ground for you by subtracting ground elevation from your present altitude. Hope this helps... Best regards, Bruno.
Raymond van Laake Posted September 6, 2004 Author Report Posted September 6, 2004 Well, that's what you get when you don't update the manual as soon as possible..... I was still using the ver 1.42 guide that didn't have offset 31E4.... thanks for putting me straight again! Ray
