Once again thanks for the assist on this one. I did as you suggested and I removed the simconnect file from windows and ran the repair utility for FSX. I repeated the steps that I have done all before this and viola I now have fps rates in the 20 range again. The reinstall seems to have done the trick. I did try to get a log but it did not work for the simconnect.

On the first test FSUIPC4 was installed in FSX and Mcafee Total protection 2007 installed. Activesky version 6.5 also installed and activated. Location on all tests the same.

All 3 tests produced the same frame rate experience of 4-5 FPS. It did not seem to matter if I had Mcafee's installed or not the results were the same. It also didnt seem to matter whether I was using an addon or not .With Mcafee installed or uninstalled and FSUIPC4 Module folder removed from FSX and using real weather of overcast and snow at the location I was at, I consistantly got in the 20 FPS range. As soon as I added the module folder back into FSX I experienced the 4-5 FPS range.

In test 2 FSX and activesky did communicate with each other and the weather was set by activesky using FSX graphics.

Thanks for the quick responce. I dont mean to pick on FSUIPC4 however I felt the need to bring my experience to your attention in hopes of finding a solution. The point of my post was to let you know that without any addons just installing FSUIPC4 caused my FSX performance to go from 20 FPS average to around 3-4 FPS average. This is consistant no matter where I start up from. It may very well be a FSX microsoft problem I dont know. All I know is that unless a solution is found I wont be able to use FSUIPC4 or any addons. For your info I have Mcafee install version 2007.

Merry Christmas all and yes I got FSX for christmas. At this stage Im not prepared to wipe FS9 off my hard drive just yet. From reading the threads I see that there have been some problems with FSX and FSUIPC4. I have one also that seems a little different. After doing a flawless install of FSX I then installed FSUIPC4 again with no problems. I checked the directory and sure enough saw the new modules folder in FSX placed there by the FSUIPC4 install. I use activesky and upgraded to version 6.5 using default settings. I launched activesky and then FSX and the 2 programs communicated with each other perfectly. However I noted a huge reduction in my frame rate average going from 20 to 3 fps. I then closed both programs and fired up FSX by itself and went to same start location that I was consisting getting 20 fps and again I was still getting an average of 3 fps. I physically removed the modules folder from FSX and then started FSX again and voila I had my 20 FPS back again at the same location. I then shut down my anitvirus and firewall software and put the module folder back in FSX and the result was 3 FPS again with nothing else running. I am not using any startup programs like autostart and at this point I dont know what else to try. The simconnect seems to be working but something is causing the process to go to a crawl. What I cant understand is that no addon programs are running and still I get the slowdown just by having the module folder in FSX

Any suggestions are most appreciated.

HI again Paul,

First of all, thank you so much for your help and suggestions. I followed your instructions and removed everything in my addon scenery/ scenery folder leaving the empty folder present and put everything in that folder into a new file called AFCAD FILES/ SCENERY as per your instructions. I then started up fs9 and went to the addon scenery area and added the new file to the list. I then shut down FS9. I then started FS Navigator database creator and noted that the new file was at the top of the list. I unchecked it and ran the creator with no problems. I then checked the file active and ran it again this time fully expecting it to freeze. But it didnt it ran perfectly with all my afcad files in place and with the addon scenery file check active as well. I didnt have to move the new file at all.

You may have found the solution to this problem that I and others have been having with this program. I have not changed any files all I have done is rearranged them as per your suggestions and voila it works. I will leave it to those with a lot more computer skills to figure it out. For me I am happy to have found a solution to the delemma I was in. Once again thank you so much for your help.

Well after several hours of trying and even going to the extreme of only leaving 1 AF2_**** file in my addon scenery/ scenery folder it still wont compile the database and locks up. IM not about to throw away all the afcad files I have so I guess I will just have to pass on this program and look elsewhere. From what I have read others who have had the program version 4.6 had no problems until they upgraded to 4.7. No doubt what ever the changes that were made between the 2 versions has created a problem that causes the program to freeze up while reading certain afcad files.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have narrowed it down to my addon scenery / scenery folder which contains hundreds of different afcads files. When I unselect this folder then it compiles the database no problem. All of my addon scenery files are ok, its the afcads that appear to be the problem.

I will try adding them a few at a time to see what happens. I would think that these afcad files for hundreds of airports are important to FS Navigator so I dont know how good FS Navigator would be without them.

I am brand new to FS Navigator. I have been involved in the flight sim community since FS95 came out. I am not a pilot but I did take ground school and I flew a cherokee 140 for some 30 hrs before I had to give it up. What I have enjoyed about Flight Sim is that by adding little programs etc to it I have been able to enhance the experience beyond my wildest dreams. Hense I decided to download and install a program I have heard so much about, that program being FS Navigator. I knew that I would find it to be a challenge but not the challenge that unfortunately resulted. After downloading the program and installing same I then ran the database creator only to find that as soon as it came to file *addon scenery* it would hang and freeze up. I have read the other posts on this forum and saddly there seems to be no fix for this problem except to go back to version 4.6. Since I have no way to do that I guess I will just have to uninstall this program and find another navigation program instead. May I suggest that since so many people are having the same problem that until the problem is fixed that the site have available both versions for download. That way at least us new comers would have at least 1/2 a chance to enjoy this program. As it is now I have no choice but to uninstall and go elsewhere.
