  1. Hi Michael,

I just finished reading your post on textures. First my hat goes off to you for basically running into a roaring fire with a fire extinguisher in hand. I think only a person of your back ground and knowledge could tackle the fallout of such a discussion. So, thanks for taking one if you will for your clients.

I learned a lot from that thread in terms or where the developers stand and what there perception is, of the customers stand point. It also clarified exactly what you have been preaching to us (simmers/ clients) all along with regards to textures.

I was very tempted to post a link to this thread in another well known Avsim forum but I know what this would have brought on and unfortunately, I wouldn't have the knowledge to beat off the barrage of questioning that it would generate, so I didn't.

From what I gathered in that thread, people who design add-on's for the community , learn this on there own and come up with a technique that may not be as efficient or as good as the other guys. So, if we shared the best technique or if I may call them , trade secrets, we would start seeing more things hitting the market consistently better in terms of performance , looks etc . which would make for a better product overall...or there could be a standard that everyone could follow for designing.

I'm with you on this but IMOO, I don't think anyone would be willing to share or teach someone else there trade secrets that they have refined over several years, and pass them off to someone else. At least from a business stand point.

But the question still remains. How can an aircraft such as the Real Air Spit be designed like it is?... and then the PMDG 747(so called X) be designed like it is? I think we both know the answer to this one. It's just everyone (at least myself) didn't have the knowledge to question it. Now I do.

I guess as a community we could come forward and ask why this is like it is, but knowledge is power, and for me, I feel they have the ability to chop down anything in there path when it would come to a discussion like this. So, I'll probably still sit in the shadows but will be armed with more knowledge for any future purchases.

Thanks for bringing this out in the open so all could see and judge for themselves. I would suggest that anyone who purchases after market add-on's to read this post so you can understand more in terms of what goes on in your sim and the market place.

  2. Ok, I made some progress. The instructions were a little unclear to me but I figured it out. After renaming the original scenery config. in fsx , you are suppose to copy the scenery config from app. data and then after the scenery is read, delete it and rename the original scenery config back to its proper name.

When I did this, FSC did recognize it and started to read the BGL's but stopped and gave me this error message: Runtime Error '52' , bad file name or number when it was reading YSSYvirginsigns.BGL from the Sydney Professional scenery from CLS.

Volker/Sascha, do you know how I can correct this?

    Thanks for the help,

    Ron Gautreau

  3. Hi, I thought I would chime in here as I'm having the same problem but in XP Pro. I followed all the instructions exactly and still FSC will not recognize the scenery config file. It doesn't matter if it is renamed to scenerycfg.fsc or not, it does not see it on my setup. My network is working fine as I have simconnect working now with ASX. Any more suggestions would be great. Anyone else out there have this problem?

    Thanks for the help,

    Ron Gautreau

    P.S. this is with 8.3

  4. Daniel, tonight I decided to double check my key assignment to make sure it wasn't assigned. I don't know how I missed this, but the key was already assigned to something else  When I deleted the assignment in FSX, all was well. :D I tested it out in EGLL, KORD (both add-on airports) and CYYZ and a couple of other stock airports and the car showed up each time!

I'm very sorry if I caused you a whole lot of grief

Thanks for the great product and support!

    My apologies again,

    Ron Gautreau

  5. Hi Daniel,

Thanks for trying to sort out my issue :) This all seems to be random as well for me. The log I posted in which the follow me worked was at Bristol (EGGD) which is default. Then when I went back in another session, I didn't work. The same has happened at CYYZ, again default. And then at Heathrow (add-on scenery), it has never showed up. I'm also always using the default trike for my aircraft, not add-on planes.

Is it possible that my simconnect dll file could be corrupt in some way?

If you need more information on my add-ons or you want me to try something, just let me know.

    Thanks for the help,

    Ron Gautreau

  6. Hi Daniel,

I did as you instructed. I was at Heathrow in the default trike. Went through taxi clearance, requested the follow me car and it didn't show up. I pressed the hot key again and got the cancelled message. I pressed it once more , and still nothing. At this point, I paused the sim, went to the desk top and ran the log. I hope this is the right sequence you wanted. I wasn't sure if you wanted me to close fsx altogether , and the run the log or just pause it.

    Thanks, Ron

  7. Hi,

I'm running FSX with Acceleration and can't seem to get the follow me car to work. I've installed the patch for SP2 as well. It is loading with the simulator but never shows up after I get taxi clearance from ATC. It's only showed up once when I was about halfway to the runway, it just cut in front of me. This is with a default airport and the PMDG 747X.

    Am I doing something wrong?

  8. Hi all,

I'm nearly at the end of my rope  trying to figure out how to program the Saitek Pro yoke with and extra quadrent using FSUIPC.

I can get all (4) throttles programed ok,(except rev thrust) but because the first (2) levers on the second quadrent have a default assignment for ailerons and elevator ,they still control these assignments along with the throttles. So when I move the throttles for engines 3 and 4 , the yoke is also moving in the sim as well.

I'm sure this is just something I'm doing wrong but I've tried everything. I've deleted all the assignments in FSX and I still can't seem to get rid of this.

If someone could guide me through programming this for the PMDG 747,or could make a small tutorial, I would be so grateful and I'm sure it would help alot of other not so "techi" people out there.

Thanks for the help, Ron Gautreau

  9. Hi Pete,

I'm just posting to let you know that I had exactly the same issues as Lee and others.

I could'nt fly for any longer than an hour before the sim would hang, and sometimes CTD and occasionally reboot the machine. I tried eveything (but not as extensive as Lee) and could'nt put an end to it.I almost gave up flying altogether. It was just by chance that I located this thread and tried ver3.70 and have been crash free ever since. In fact, I flew for 10 hours non stop without a problem last night.

So, just some more info for you. I'm running an invidia geforce 7800gs,3.0gig proc.,2 gig ram, with PMDG, Wilco,UT,FSGenisis, and a few more.

    Regards, Ron
