Simple Shift Command vs Compound Command
scottb613 replied to scottb613's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
Hi John, Ahh - thanks for the info - since this is the first we’ve corresponded - welcome aboard... I’ve seen the “track the delta” mentioned before - I’ll start plugging through the manuals and see if I can figure it out - I’m not much of a programmer... Appreciate the consideration - hopefully you guys will figure something - as it was a popular feature in the “CH” community and having it included in the interface would make this available to far more users than the custom scripts will do... Have a good day ! Regards, Scott -
Simple Shift Command vs Compound Command
scottb613 replied to scottb613's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
Hi Folks, LOL - Pete - I thought I read about your retirement - yet you still appear very active here... 😀 I was just wondering if this ever had more consideration ? I could truly use a “shifted” joystick button press - so each one of my buttons could have two functions... For example: I bought this great button box where I want to use my six "rotary encoders" to do such things as set my heading, course, and altitude - maybe prop/mixture as well... The rotary encoders are just glorified push buttons that press a specific button multiple times as you spin it - and another button when you reverse direction... The aforementioned flight sim controls (heading, course, and altitude) have a normal and fast speed increment... I've set these up using two rotary encoders per flight sim control - one for course/fast adjustment - the other for fine/slow adjustment - and they work quite well - - - although - - - I don't really want to use two rotary encoders per flight sim control... A shifted key press would allow me to use one... Anyway - thanks for the consideration - either way - and have a good day... Regards, Scott -
Rotary encoders not working as expected

Hi Pete, As always - thank you for your time and valuable insights - - - I'll do some legwork on what you mentioned but it sounds a bit beyond my comfort zone... Happy Holidays - sir... For the record - this is the button box I chose: Regards, Scott -
Rotary encoders not working as expected
scottb613 replied to aurel42's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
Hi Folks, Was a satisfactory solution ever found ? I just bought a button box with six rotary encoders thinking it would be a snap to setup for things such as HDG Bug - CDI - Mixture - Prop - Altitude Select - and such... It seems I've made a mistake not realizing the complexity involved... It's easy to assign but far too fine in adjustment for any practical use... It would take all day to swing the HDG bug a full 360... I'm not a programmer - so I was wondering if there's any relatively easy solution available ? I guess you would need to monitor the rate of presses and increase the size of increment or decrement accordingly ? Thanks... Regards, Scott -
Simple Shift Command vs Compound Command
scottb613 replied to scottb613's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
Hi Pete, Concur - FSUIPC5 and P3Dv4 is all I use... I don’t think it would be fair for anyone to expect feature additions to software that’s been replaced by newer versions... Around flight sim - you never know though... :) Yep - I had thought of some of the ramifications you listed... You've been more than fair/gracious - and - consideration is all I hoped for... Thanks for all you do - much appreciated - and have a good day... Regards, Scott -
Hi Pete, I’ve been a customer since your first releases of FSUIPC and have enjoyed your products for many years... I don’t frequent this forum often - so I don’t know if you’re open to suggestions... I’ve been using a full CH HOTAS setup for probably as long as I’ve been using FSUIPC (game port days)... Seems as if CH chose to abandon their proprietary Control Manager software with the advent of Win10 making it prone to BSOD and loss of features - really forcing their customers to stop using it... One of the best features it offered was a [shift] command to allow every button on your HOTAS setup have two functions - a normal and shifted button press... It’s sorely missed and I would think a large portion of the FSUIPC community could benefit from effectively doubling the number of buttons you have at your disposal... I’ve done my due diligence and researched the function - here - in your forum (noticed the mode control posts) - as well as your manuals... From what I gather - it is possible to replicate this feature by manually editing the config file - however it seems a tad cryptic and cumbersome for novice FSUIPC users... I’m sure only an extremely small percentage of your customer base ventures outside your provided GUI to interact with FSUIPC... The fact than many of us use “aircraft specific profiles” complicates this even further as we would need to manually configure multiple profiles adding the compound command functions as needed... Based on how benneficial this could be to so many users - have you ever considered adding this to your GUI - a simple selection that this button will act as a [shift] thereby allowing users to press it while assigning other buttons via the FSUIPC GUI ? I’m not a programmer so I don’t know how difficult this would be to implement or how it would affect the complex interactions within the sim... Anyway - just a humble suggestion - my two cents - please take it for what it’s worth... Thanks for your consideration... Regards, Scott

Hi... Also - Voice Attack should be able to accomplish what you want as well - press and hold key - sleep - release key... VA can then map it to a joystick button as well if you’d rather that than verbal commands... If you need help Rodger - lol - I believe you know where I live... Regards, Scott

Roger that - thanks - will do... Regards, Scott

Is it a plane ? Thanks... Regards, Scott
-
Hi Folks, As one of my absolute favorite planes - just like to offer my input - hope to see it in P3D as well... Can you expound a bit on the plans ? Is it truly being actively worked on now - or just out there in your long range forcast ? Thanks... Regards, Scott

Connect real Garmin GPSMAP 496 ???
scottb613 replied to scottb613's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
OK - I think this might work... Since my computer does not have any traditional serial ports - I need to get the USB to Serial adapter to create a real COM port... Then I need to purchase a Garmin PC Serial Port connector cable... The Garmin 496 supports: Garmin Data Transfer Garmin DGPS Garmin Remote Sonar NMEA In / NMEA Out Aviation In Aviation In / NMEA and VHF Out TIS In TIS In / NMEA and vHF Out RTCM In RTCM In / NMEA Out RTCM In / Text Out Text Out So - I am buying the necessary cables and will give it a try... I'll let you know how I make out... Thanks for the assist... Regards, Scott -

Connect real Garmin GPSMAP 496 ???
scottb613 replied to scottb613's topic in FSUIPC Support Pete Dowson Modules
Thanks for the responses... :D It sounds like the odds are my Garmin won't accept it... Too bad - it would have been nice... If I really wanted to test it - what type of cable would I use to connect my PC to the Garmin ??? The USB to USB ??? Or do I need some custom comm cable ??? While I am here - thanks Pete - for all you hard work on FSUIPC... Been using the payware version for a bunch of years - and - I am one happy customer... Regards, Scott -
All, I saw mention that it was possible to connect a real world Garmin GPSMAP 496 to FS via FSUIPC... Is this possible ??? Is there a procedure anywhere ??? Thanks, Scott

Hi Bob... Thanks for the response... One of the steps while troubleshooting - was to create a new map from scratch - in the Control Manager software... All I did was add my three devices - FIGHTER STICK - THRUSTMASTER THROTTLE - and - QUAD THROTTLE... I left everything with the default value for the Control Manager - and pushed the map to my controllers... I'll try and check what you mentioned below - tonight when I get home... Regards, Scott

Hi All, I am relatively new to the payware version of FSUIPC and could use a little help... Thrust Reversers... Initially I had these all working... I am pretty sure I did not make any additional changes - then all of a sudden I lost the ability to engage thrust reverse... I am on the throttle tab of FSUIPC - and I have (4) of my throttle quad levers mapped appropriately for engine throttles... I have gone through and restet each lever attempting to set - MAX - IDLE - and - REVERSE points... Again - while this worked initially - the throttle axis values stop changing when I enter the lower range below the detent (where reverse should be)... It thinks the detent position that should be IDLE is the bottom of the joystick axis... So - it seems the values change appropiately for the top range but not the lower... This happens on all four assigne axis... I have exited out and recalibrated the joytsick axis many time... When in the joystick calibtration utility - the values seem to appropiately on both the upper and lower side of the detent... Help - please... Thanks Scott
