  1. I'm not clear which you are getting into all this complciation. I start off any sessions in my cockpit with a flight saved "cold and dark" with everything off and in a known state. That way everything always stays in sync. Are you in the habit or starting things off in different phases of flight?

I have a saved flight with C & D for the Cessna at EGNJ, which I do use but it still has 1 drawback: -

Even using the C & D flight some of the toggles are in the wrong sense e.g Pause and Slew are the 2 obvious ones but there are others. I have all toggles set to show red in the "off" state (which I have done as this is how they come on asWideclient is started) and green in the "on" state. This is fine for most things, like battery master, which I want to be red when off and green when on.

Some toggles however, like Pause and Slew, I want to be red in the active state ( to fsx). By this I mean when Pause is on in fsx I want it to show red and to do this I have set the control assignments in reverse in FSUIPC. When these toggles are switched OFF they go red but they put the relevant function to ON in FSX and vice versa. This was the only way I could think of to have the majority of them working in the correct sense for red and green "lights" on the touch screen.

So, in retrospect, it doesn't matter about a C & D saved flight becouse I don't want all the toggles in the same start on wideclient start up.

It does have a second drawback that if I want to fly from somewhere else I have load the flight twice when I move airports and this takes some time as I have GenX photo scenery and loading times are longer. This, however, isn't related to FSUIPC or Wideclient but is still a PITA!

    2) Allow an initial toggle setting flag in the ButtonScreen, so when Wideclient starts up you can have some inidicating "on" whilst others indicate "off", according to the parameters.

This sounds like exactly what I want to happen and by a much simpler means.

BTW All this came about because I saw an advert somewhere for a small usb touch screen which claims to read what state the controls are in and shows them on the screen in the appropriate position, and I thought "I wonder if I could get mine to do that"

    Thanks

  2. I've now got all the toggles on my touchscreen to work in the sense I want them to, so that they are green in the obvious positions- eg battery master ON is green, pause OFF is green etc. This now gives me another problem, with the toggle colours reversed as Wideclient is started all toggles now come on in red colour ready to be switched on during start up. However the actual settings for pause, slew and door actuations are then in the incorrect sense i.e. door toggle is red but the doors are shut (which should equate to green status), pause toggle is red (which equates to pause on) but pause is off. I know I could just reset the toggles and they will always then be in the correct alignment with their fs function because of how I have assigned them in FSUIPC.

But I was wondering if it would be possible to write a Lua plug-in or something else ( I'm downloading Lua for Windows as I type this) so that this plug-in is run once as wideclient is opened and resets toggles according to their offset status. From what I have read so far Lua can read offset status (I think!) but can it write to Wideclient to alter the state of toggles on the buttonscreen?

Or does anyone know of a different way I can achieve this.

  3. Following your thought provoking comments I realised what I'd done wrong on the colours, I'd set the colour on the actual button. Now I've set it in the Colour section and, lo and behold, it now works as I want it to. Thanks for that. It has also become obvious that some are best in red in one state whilst others, like doors and pause, are better the other way round- but I'll keep trying on that one.

With regard to the doors I've not yet sorted that out, since I'm not too certain about what exactly I'm supposed to do, despite a couple of hours reading this afternoon, offsets are a whole new ball game to me.

  4. Pete

A couple of trivial questions for you.

Just in the process of revising my buttom screen to fit round the Peix instrument software on the slave pc. Whilst I am at it I decided to change some of the toggles to use the offsets rather than the fs control toggles for things like battery and avionics master. This has the advantage of always being in the same state for the same Button Screen toggle setting.

What crossed my mind was that, every time Wideclient is started the toggles appear in green. I would like them to appear initially in red, so that as I turn on the systems ( eg Battery master) they go from red to green. This means when I am ready to fly all lights are green rather than red. I tried changing the colours but then lost the green/red colour change.

It can be done by reversing the offset function but this means when Wideclient is started I would have to turn all toggles the other way just to turn them back again. Seems a bit daft. Also I would like to use this system for the AP controls so that when I turn on, say, the AP master it goes to green and is only red when turned off.

    Is this possible?

Secondly I could not find an offset for setting the state of the door, and had to use the fs buttons for this. A search on "door" yielded only one offset but this only reported on the state of various doors, if I read it correctly, and not the option to set them.

Have I missed it or is there no offset I can use for this?

    Thanks

  5. I use FSC on a slave pc.

There is a section in the documentation (or on the website, can't remember which) regarding "mounting" the drive in Windows before you can see them in FSC. It is important that each computer can see the relevant folders on the the other pc first, check this in windows explorer.

They must have sharing activated and read and write authorisation accross the network. All this is done via Windows network properties. Only when this is Ok can you insall FSC correctly.

    Hope that helps

  6. Whatever you do dont sell it! It's worth persevering with.

I have a similar set up to yours with aTH2G, except I use a second pc with a 19" touch screen to run the instruments and use the Button screen facility in Wide FS as a means of altering various settings in the cockpit so as to remove the need for use of the mouse almost completely. I call it my Multi Function Display and developed it, under Pete's guidance several months ago. You will find a reference to it in the manual, but it consists of 7 screens covering such things as Navcom adjustments, autopilot, GPS and G1000 screens.

I have also found an addon called Gapanel (http://www.peixsoft.com/index.php?page=ga-panel) which runs on the second pc, and, with practice, you can alter the settings using the touch screen rather than the mouse.

Also try VASfmc standalone (http://vas-project.org/) for a system for the heavies which runs on a second pc and again some things can be "pressed" using the touch screen. And the best thing is it's freeware!

  7. That last revision to Wideclient has removed the oddities on page 7, and my final version of the ini file is posted below.

I've even managed to get VoxATC onto it, all it needed was a hot key assigning and then FSUIPC pointing to that .

Once again thanks for helping me get it working

  8. Pete

All I did on page 7 was to allocate all the remaining unused buttons to positions so they were there for any future uses that came up, but in such a way as to keep the layout of the page with the GoTos down the sides. The exception was the last GoTo (430=4G260trb"G1000\rMFD") which, thanks to your extending the number of command lines, I can now move to the same place as it is on the other pages. This maintains the appearance as I flip from one menu page to another. All the buttons are not yet allocated- until I come across a suitable use.

One thing I am looking at is if I can use a button to bring up the VoxATC screen rather than having to go through the FSX menus.

  9. Pete

Now got a version I am happy with and the info is posted below. I've tried to use the Code facility, but have never used it before so I hope i has worked.

I would be chuffed to be credited for it, please credit to Dennis Hardy.

Have a look at page 7 (Misc), it does some weird things with buttons and toggles after the end of the allocated spaces- including putting button 55 in again!

    Thanks for all yout help.

  10. Pete

I have hit a problem with my menu pages. If you look at tke wideclient.ini file pasted below you will see at line 277 a GoTo which does not work. I have tried putting this in several pages and directing it at several lines above 300 (page 6 starts at 300) but all I get is a black button. I have put a Next next to the ineffective GoTo and that works ok. Would you have alook and tell me if its me on not?

The rest is pretty much done although I think page 1 looks a bit scrappy and may end up being revised.

  11. Pete

    Thats what I call service!

Already downloaded the new version and will try it tomorrow. No problem with sending you a copy when it's done. I am currently grappling with the G1000 page as it is something I have never used before, can't seem to get the FMS knob to work with the mouse, never mind with FSUIPC. Probably me doing something wrong.Still I'll have another go tomorrow,

  12. Pete

Can you clarify a point for me. If I program some Unused slots at low number slots and then at a later date decide to change them into buttons (or vice versa even, change buttons to "U" slots), will this new button displace all subsequent buttons one space further along or will it take the next unallocated button number?

Also a suggestion for the next revision- it would be useful to be able to dispay a Header on each page e.g. Sytems, NavCom etc. Perhaps by using "U" positions with the ability to dispay text?

    Thanks

    Den

  13. [First, by "size" parameter do you mean the numbers of buttons across and down, or do you mean the saved Window size?

Second, are you saying that even with a specification of "12 x ?" for the matrix, it is giving you "16 x ?" ...?

    /quote]

The number of buttons visible. It is making it 16x7 buttons instead of 12x4. Also the physical size of each button is smaller, approx 3/4 I suspect- since 16 now occupy the same width as 12 did from the previous version. 12 buttons was the width of my Acer AL1916 monitor, now it fits 16 across. If I make the Window noticeably bigger and then smaller, and the screen stays black, then the physical size of each button increases to the size I was used to in the earlier version, but then the only ones visible are Next/Previous buttons. If the screen goes white, (as it usually does when you alter the physical size of the Window ) and stays white, then no buttons are visible.

If I resize the window and close Wideclient it will re-open at the same sze (X by Y mm) but never does it open with 12x4 buttons which are the same size as they used to be.

No the info isn't secret- I just didn't want to clog the post up with what I thought wasn't needed! Oh well. It hasn't been altered from the previous incarnation yet. Its posted below.

    Hope this helps.

  14. I have tried the new version of Wideclient and have a few initial problems.

The screen no longer follows the size parameter in the ini file, it usually (but not every time) opens up at the size it was closed at.

The button size on opening is smaller than previous version. The previous one would just fit 12 across my monitor, now it takes 16. This makes them a bit small to operate on the touch screen.

If I try to resize the window by "grabbing" the corner then one of 2 things happen; either the screen will go completely white (with no previous/next buttons) or completely black except for the next/previous buttons in the corner. In this latter case the buttons revert to the original, larger size.

In both instances it remains connected to the server. I cannot determine why it does whichever one of the 2 actions.

When the buttons are showing they do work.

On the last try wideclient shut itself down.

Below are pasted the in and log files for your perusal.

  15. I have now got my button screen working on a networked pc with a touch screen, and am in the process of programming the buttons for various controls. The aim is to get rid of mouse clicks as far as I can.

It is set up as a 12 wide by 4 high screen and I want to assign different classes of controls to consequetive screens; engines to first screen, nav com to second screen, GPS to 3rd and then whatever else comes to mind. I suspect it could end up with quite a few.

    However I have a few questions: -

    1. Is it possible, instead of using the "next" and "previous" buttons, to program the last column of buttons to go to a defined page i.e. the top buuton goes to page 2, the one below to go to page 3 etc? So that if I want to go to the GPS controls I press one button labelled "GPS" rather than 2 presses on "next".

    2. Can I change the background colour of different buttons, to complement the bordering already available, to delineate different groups of functions on the same page?

    3. I cannot seem to get the COM 1 function to work as I want it to. The means of altering the standby frequency and then swapping them to the active side. It was straightforeward for the Nav radio, but not the Com. It will alter the active directly, but then how do I alter the standby to the next required frequency ($uch as approach and ground) so that one button will swap them?

  16. I am having a problem setting this facility up on a Vista pc, the wide client window remains blank. It does connect to the wideserver pc ok and runs FS Commander ok-it is just the button screen that doesn't work.

I have tried it on another pc running XP and this works ok, so I copied and pasted the relevant lines from the one that worked to the Vista one but still nothing.

The wide client.ini file is: -

    [Config]

  17. I am trying to use my Dell Axim X30 as a remote touch screen but have been baulked at the first hurdle. It will not run the Wideclient.exe file, it shows the following message: -

"Wide Client is not a valid pocket pc application"

Should I use it connected to the FSX pc in usb link or via wireless network mode?

Could anyone please advise as to how I can achieve this.
