[FSUIPC installer is unable to edit the DLL.XML file - it tries to locate FSX-SE exclusively, only FSX exists]

I did fresh install of FSX SE about a month ago.  Let me be clear: This is a fresh SE install on a new OS hard drive.  FSX boxed has never been here.

FSUIPC 4.977:

Now finding \Microsoft\FSX-SE\FSX_SE.CFG for all users, including this one

 

And this:

Looking in registry for FSX-SE install path:
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DovetailGames\FSX
     Parameter"Install_Path"
... >>>  OK! FOUND FSX-SE!  <<< ...

My reality:

AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\fsxse.CFG


Indeed, there is nothing with "fsx_se" in my entire appdata folder structure. 

If I rename fsxse.cfg to fsx_se.cfg, then FSUIPC is happy. 

HOWEVER

If I change anything in my actual FSX SE configuration (I reset unlimited fuel for example), those changes are saved to fsx.cfg. So, for whatever reason, my FSX SE install has never heard of FSX_SE.CFG nor does it use it.

ymmv, but this is what I see.

Either way, FSUIPC still can't edit xml file, which is alive and well in appdata\roaming\microsoft\fsx.  I hacked it with this:

<Launch.Addon>
    <Name>FSUIPC</Name>
    <Path>Modules\FSUIPC4.dll</Path>
  </Launch.Addon>   

And all seems to be well so far.

So, in summary, I had to rename fsx.cfg to fsx_se.cfg to make FSUIPC happy although fsx_se.cfg isn't actually used by fsx.  And I had to manually add FSUIPC entry to dll.xml.

This is going to be a complaint.  Before I get to that, yes, I know that FSUIPC has done more for the FS community than probably any other piece of software ever written.  I do know that and respect it.  A lot.  Nevertheless, I really have to complain:

I kept hearing what sounded like a Windows system sound several weeks ago.  I heard it so much that it persisted when I was NOT on my PC.  (I'm not kidding, this really did happen.)  I thought I was having aural hallucinations.  I thought I had a brain tumor.  I thought... all kinds of things.  (Again, I'm being exceedingly serious here.)

Then it stopped.  All was well.  I thought I had driven off whatever virus, demons or spirits had possessed my life with ... oh, no it came back.

But this time, I confirmed that I wasn't crazy.  I turned up systems sounds and voila, the sound revealed itself in all its glory.  But what was causing it?

Complaint number one.  I'm going to shout this.  You would if you were me, trust me.  DO NOT EVER SOUND A WINDOWS MESSAGING SOUND WITHOUT A DIALOG GO EXPLAIN WHY.  EVER!

Every ten seconds, this sound was slowly driving me insane.  But I narrowed it down to FSX.  But no tasks under that were doing it.  Closed them all down.  Looked through background processes.  Nothing there made any sense. 

Then, by some miracle I found a post somewhere that said "I keep hearing a Windows systems sound." OH?  And then: FSUIPC.INI.

But this can't be.  FSUICPC doesn't even show up in my task manager anywhere.  Oh -- because  it's a MODULE.

Sure enough -- WARNING! Free memory is very low.  And thus the insanity-inducing ding ding ding ding ding ding...

Your log is the only place that reported the source of this constant sound...  refer to my complaint above.  I'm going to shout it again.

Yes, I have seen the OOM dialog box before.  Yes, I was playing around with various add-ons and tweakings to get my VAS under control.  Yes, I got OOMs during that process.  An YES, I got my VAS under control.

No more OOM messages.  But still, the constant ding ding ding ding.

I have an 8G video card, so there is no way that got low on memory.  During my last flight, I was monitoring task manager very carefully.  The highest FSX got was 2.6G

And yet, in the background, very faintly because I had system sounds volume turned down quite low - the incessant ding ding ding worthy of a tale from Poe himself.

No dialog.  Not one. 

And if 2.6G is enough to tirgger "very low" VAS, well, sir, you're just wrong.  There's still 1.4 left.  You can do a lot in 1.4  80% is the rule of thumb for alerts in the IT world.  Here, that would be 3.2G. 

No matter the number --- DIALOG!

I"m sorry that this is the only time I've ever talked to you and it has to be this way.  But, seriously, you cannot do this to people. 

It's not nice.

Thanks for free FSUIPC.  Please fix it so it properly reveals itself as the source of incessant systems sounds.

Yeah, I'm coming to the tech forum for support with a problem with the publisher. 

 

The reason I am coming here is they provide NO OTHER WAY than the ticket system to contact them.  I can't log in, so I can't use the ticket system.  I know this is not what this board is for, but there is no other point of contact for help.

 

I bought FSC and need to redownload, but my password isn't working and their password reset isn't sending out e-mail for some reason (although their sales e-mails are coming in just fine.)  I've tried 5 times in the past three hours and gotten no e-mail from them to reset my password.  (I've done this before, so I know how it's supposed to work.)

 

If anybody can help me get a password reset sent to my e-mail on file with Simmarket, I would appreciate it.

[Natracks (again)]

Before I start, please know that:

a. I have read the manual on how to download NATRACKs including checking to make sure they are going to the correct folder (//FSC/database)

b. I have confirmed the web page is current, accesible and shows NAT information.

c. I have manually download the page from inside the browser to the correct folder (again, //FSC/database)

d. I have tried both .htm and .mht extensions.

e. I have read every post in this forum on the topic that I can find.

Now that you know that I have worked hard to answer my own question, here is the problem. (I am using FSC 8.6)

1. I verify in the downloads page that the URL for NATtracks download is: https://www.notams.faa.gov/common/nat.html. (If you click on this link, you will see that it works.)

2. I use the download option in the program: Tracks/Download NATrack. No errors.

3. When I show the NATtracks, they are the 2009 version that shipped with the program, as is North Atlantic Tracks.htm and .mht in the //FSC/database folder. This seems to indicate the download is not actually happening.

4. The referenced URL opens in my browser at the same time.

Plan B:

1. I save the file directly from the browser as both North Atlantic Tracks.htm and North Atlantic Tracks.mht.

2. I confirm the files show the new date in the //FSC/database folder.

3. In FSC, when I try to open the tracks, I get an error message: error reading in Nattrack file!

4. When I click to show the routes again, I get the same error, but the correct date is shown, matching the dates of the new file.

5. After a few times, it reverts back to the 2009 version automatically.

Any ideas?
