Not sure why you posted those. Do they illustrate any specific problem? If so, can you tell me what they illustrate so I know what to say about it? There are no transmission errors recorded, no missing blocks, nothing indicating any sort of problem.
Note that the FSUIPC version 4.703 was replaced by 4.745 as the main release version a while ago, and there's an even later one here in the Download Links subforum.
Also, if you are going to supply logs please always close FS down first. This is particularly important for the WideServer log where performance summaries are then added before it closes. But as it is the WideClient log does show performance summaries each time you closed FSX (seens you did this several times whilst WideClient was still up and running):
501750 Reception average whilst connected so far: 17 frames/sec, 478 bytes/sec
18999109 Reception average whilst connected so far: 19 frames/sec, 62 bytes/sec
which is certainly respectable though not excellent, but good enough to handle any sorts of button pressing transmission and interpretation, as indeed the FSUIPC log shows being enacted:

and your FS frame rate matches that achieved by WideClient, so there should be no problems.
Regards
Pete
I posted the logs to respond to your question "Do you have errors listed in the WideServer or WideClient log files?" I am not an expert on WideFS or WideServer, as you can imagine. Is that not what you wanted me to do?
As I stated earlier, the G1000_MFD_PROCEDURE button does not bring up the screen to select a procedure in FSX. Once that screen is brought up by mouse click, the G1000_MFD_GROUP_KNOB_INCR and G1000_MFD_ENTER buttons work by button press on WideFS. Thus, despite the fact that the logs show
3108351 Button changed: bRef=0, Joy=67, Btn=19, Pressed
3108351 [buttons] 242=P67,19,C66781,0

3108554 Button changed: bRef=0, Joy=67, Btn=19, Released
this does not execute the correct control in FSX, apparently.

Hmm. That's strange. There should new no reason it can lose sending these messages. Do you have errors listed in the WideServer or WideClient log files?
Pete

I understood that was what you meant, but with what method? After all, you said the G1000 FS controls did not work, and I found the L:Vars and Mouse macro methods of no use for that gauge. I didn't actually bother to try the G1000 controls because of your earlier report.
So it sounds like it is the G1000 FS controls you are using after all?
That's all I wanted clarified.
Regards
Pete
That's correct, although not perfectly. For example, if I use the mouse to select G1000_MFD_PROC button, I can use WideFS to change the approach, but FSX does not respond to the G1000_MFD_PROC button implemented with WideFS. The response to other buttons is also jumpy, which again I attribute to some performance problem. It is much smoother using the mouse than using WideFS.
-
Sorry, you've lost me entirely. How is this related to the G1000 and whether FS controls, mouse macros or L:Vars work on it?
Pete
I am simply reporting that the G1000 MFD appears to work with hardware controls, not just with the mouse buttons. I thought this would be interesting to you. I think that the sim is not servicing interrupts from the hardware fast enough when it is running the G1000 panels, but I am no expert on the sim so I could be wrong. In any case, it does work through FSUIPC and WideFS. I also noticed that the Task Manager was showing CPU utilizations of 100% across all 5 of my processors. I rebooted and restarted FSX and now the utilization is about 78% with the sim running the C172 G1000, and the G1000 MFD responds to buttons sent to it by WideFS.
-
Of course, but they are being seen locally to that gauge. You often only get controls being used when they can be assigned to keypresses and buttons and sent from elsewhere. There are a lot of switches in FS gauges which a purely local to a gauge.
No. If you have event logging enabled and there are no events being sent, then the gauge doesn't use them. Buttons aren't relevant, not sure why you've turned that on too.
The only other possibilities for this would be Mouse Macros or L:Vars. But I just tried both of those on the G1000 gauge and neither work. Sorry, it seems Microsoft did not design that gauge with hardware users in mind.
Regards
Pete
Well, for what it's worth, I think it may be a performance problem. If I go into Settings and set the target frame rate to 24 (it was 40), I can control the guage from both a hardware controller (USB) and via WideFS. But it doesn't work perfectly. I will play around with it some more.
-
I don't think any of the G1000 controls were ever hooked up in FSX, were they? I've never used any GPS in FS so I don't know, but you could try using the FSUIPC event logging when operating the G1000 in FS more directly and see what logging results you get, if any.
Are there any assignments possibly for the G1000 in FS's own dialogue?
I suspect there are a few controls tabulated and assigned numbers in FS's CONTROLS.DLL which I suspect were "good intentions" never realised.
Regards
Pete
The mouse buttons on the G1000 MFD work. However, running a log with Buttons and Events turned on doesn't produce any log entries. Should I be logging something else?
thanks!
-
Pete:
I am trying to interface FSUIPC4 to the FSX C172 G1000 model for the first time, using Widefs with buttons set up. Pressing the G1000_MFD_FLIGHTPLAN_BUTTON then the G1000_MFD_PROC_BUTTON. The following is the log. But nothing happens on the G1000. What am I doing wrong? FSUIPC.INI follows logs.

Yes. If you want help interpreting the Log, show me the bits and I'll try.
Pete
I couldn't see the Saitek panel in FSUIPC but I think I found the problem: I was running both the Saitek driver and SPAD at the same time, and SPAD was set up incorrectly. I'll try it for a while before doing anything more. Thanks for the offer of help.
-
Sorry, i don't know anything about the panel. I assume their driver is the part interfacing to FSUIPC, so if you remove that you aren't left with much. If it is a standard USB HID device, like the GoFlight devices, it would be possible to program it using the COM and HID facilities in the FSUIPC Lua libraries -- you could run HidScanner to see what that tells you. You can get that in this thread in the Download Links subforum: Latest Lua Package. But you'd need to write your own Lua program that way.
Alternatively, search out a program called SPAD ("Saitek Panels Advanced Driver") which might handle it. Google should find it for you.
Regards
Pete
Yes, I have SPAD but it has its own problems in interfacing to the Saitek gear and is not supported. But I suppose I could get a FSUIPC log of events that occur when buttons on the Saitek gear are pressed with SPAD in control. I think I know enough about FSUIPC now to find out what is going on. Does this sound workable? thanks!
-
Is there a way to get rid of the Saitek multipanel driver and take control of the multipanel in FSUIPC? It is not listed as a joystick in FSUIPC.INI. It unpredictably turns off such things as speed hold when I move a rotary.
-
If you assign to a Toggle control (toggle bits or one of the built-in FS toggle controls) then each alternate press of a button will toggle the switch, so it will turn the lights on and off on alternate presses. but you didn't want that, you wanted the display to show read when the light was switched on. That's why you changed to using the offsets -- because, generally, the FS controls only give toggling.
So in the original example:
100=P64,0,Cx05000D0C,02
101=U64,1,Cx09000D0C,02
x05000D0C is a SET bits control, and sets bit 1 (worth 2), whilst x09000D0C is a CLEAR bits control, which clears the same but. Thus on/press switches the bit on, off/release switches it off.
Well those lines cannot be the whole story, as the x05000D0C can only SET bits, not clear them. So those will all switch lights on, but never turn them off.
Additionally, this one:
115=P64,15,Cx05000D0C,x00 ;nav lights
does nothing at all because there are no bits in "00" to set. You need 01 for the NAV lights.
Pete
You are correct (sigh!) The lines for turning off the switches are at the end of the [buttons] section. I expected them to be right next to the lines for turning on the switches. I sure could have saved hours of work if I had used the FSUIPC assignments screen instead of editing INI. Well, live and learn!
-
No, all the "virtual buttons" are seen in the dialogue too.
Well, it isn't only in the manual, it is on the screen in front of you too. There are two places to get the assignment dropdown and make your assignments, one for "Press" and the other, just below, for "Release". I did tell you this earlier. "On" for a Toggle is the same as pressing a button, "off" is the same as releasing it. FSUIPC has always offered programming capability for both events. I'm surprised you've never noticed.
Perhaps what is confusing you is that the dialogue only recognises the "on" or "press" event to display the button. That's to avoid a double call and problems with some rotary types. But you can always (always) program both press/on and release/off when the button is shown.
Regards
Pete
I understand now. But why is only a "P" entry needed for each light? How does this work without a "U" entry to release the toggle? Below are the lines from INI. The lights all work. These were put in with the FSUIPC assignments screen. If I had entered them by editing INI, I would have put in a "P" and a "U' entry for each light. So I am still confused.
112=P64,12,Cx05000D0C,x20 ;panel lights
113=P64,13,Cx05000D0C,x02 ;beacon lights
114=P64,14,Cx05000D0C,x04 ;landing light
115=P64,15,Cx05000D0C,x00 ;nav lights
116=P64,16,Cx05000D0C,x10 ;strobe lights
-
No. Use one button, defined as a Toggle, but program both the "on" (press) and "off" (release) actions.
So, assuming you must have meant offset 0D0C not 01DC (the latter not being anything at all related to lights):
100=P64,0,Cx05000D0C,02
101=U64,1,Cx09000D0C,02
though you really would find it easier to do this in FSUIPC's assignments screen rather than editing the INI file.
The WideClient INI entry would simply be:
00=T"Beacon lights"
Once synchronized (by using it once) it will show RED for on, GREEN for off. It won't necessarily start off showing correctly because it isn't actually reading the status/offset.
Regards
Pete
OK, I go into FSUIPC from FSX with WideClient up, select Buttons and Switches, Reload all buttons, press the WideClient toggle button, assign Offset Bytes Setbits to 0D0C with parameter 2. That does set the beacon switch on in FSX. But how to I assign the same Wideclient toggle button to turn the beacon switch off? Pressing the WideClient button again just retains the first assigment. Again, sorry if this is in the manual somewhere.
-
No. Use one button, defined as a Toggle, but program both the "on" (press) and "off" (release) actions.

Thanks, Pete! I wasn't aware that one could use FSUIPC's assignments screen for programming logical buttons - I thought you had to physically press a button to assign it to something. Anyway, I already have about 48 logical buttons assigned in FSUIPC.INI that correlate with WideClient.
-
Yes they are FSUIPC offsets, they are listed in the "FSUIPC4 Offsets Status" document which comes as part of the SDK- available from PD's page here: -
http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html
It lists all the offstes available, I used quite a few when setting up the button screen touchscreen my pit- much better than using a mouse/keyboard. Program them in through the button page in FSUIPC.
Den
Sorry to be so dense. I have the SDK now and the list of offsets in the programmer's guide. Do you mean that there should be 2 entries in the WideFS.cfg file for each light, AND 2 entries in the FSUIPC.INI file for each light, with one FSUIPC.INI having the offset byte setbits with parameters for each light and one having the offset bytes clrbits? So, for example, the FSUIPC.INI entries to turn on and off the beacon light would be:
100=P64,0,Cx050001DC,02
101=P64,1,Cx090001DC,02
and the corresponding WideFS entries would be:
00=B"Beacon lights\rON"
01=B"Beacon lights\rOFF"
-
Just checked in my simpit.
I use Offset byte set bits( for light on) and offset bytes clear bits (for light off) in Offset 0D0C with the parameters 01(Nav light), 02(beacon), and 08(Taxi light).
For the landing light I use FS control "landing light on" when the toggle is set and "landing light off" when it is released. Similarly for the strobes I use "strobes on" and "strobes off" Using these ensures that they actions remain true to the sense meant eg if the flight has loaded with,say, strobes on and I press the button screen toggle to switch them on they just stay on rather than toggle the other way.
If you use the FSX instruction to toggle. All this does is reverse the current setting so you can have the button screen toggle turning things off instead of on!
Hope this helps
Den
Thanks! Are those offsets into FSUIPC and how do you know what they are?
-
Hi Anonymous,
have you watched it, as in real life, this is dependent on the following parameters: Type of Aircraft, speed, bank angle, distance, position and angle of the next waypoint. All waypoints will be interpreted as FlyBy.
If waypoints requires explicit a FlyOver, this must be set in the GPS window. (see Handbook Chapter 12, GPS and moving map, paragraph: The Waypoint Page).
Volker
I didn't know about this feature, and I will try it. However, I don't think it will solve my problem. I use Radar Contact autopilot for long flights, and therefore would not be able to change each waypoint to a Flyover as they are encountered. Also, this doesn't explain why FSC fills in the information for arrival at destination and then later fills in the info for a waypoint previous to the destination.
-
You should be able to use a toggle by directly setting the offsets for the various lights with the toggle. I have used this method in my simpit.
It will need 2 entries, one when the toggle is set to switch the light on and one for when the toggle is released to turn it off. I did it using offset 0D0C (IIRC- I'm not in my simpit at the moment), setting the bits to 1 for on and 0 for off.
This has the advantage that it always performs the correct function in the correct sense when you use it.
Regards
Den
Good idea, but I use FSUIPC4 with cxxxxxx numbers in the Buttons section of FSUIPC.INI. I don't know what the offsets you use are used with, but I sure am curious!
thanks!
-
you're 'doubling' a Toggle = you're toggling a toggle
beacon is defined 'Toggle Beacon' fsx control
so its a 'button'
= B
you're confusing FSX
oh dear
change T to B
That works, but then the buttons on WideFS are of course ordinary buttons rather than toggles, so they don't turn from green to red so that you know whether it toggled or not without looking at the instrument panel. What I hoped for was a true visible toggle on the buttons screen and only have to click once. Seems that it should be possible.
Thanks for the help!
-
With the flight plan up and running, FSC 8.6 sometimes records a waypoint on navaid plan before the waypoint is reached,including filling in the actual arrival time at the destination before the destination is reached.
-
I am setting up a fairly complete WideFS buttons screen. My problem is with toggles. I have things like beacon lights, strobes, no smoking, seat belts etc. set up as toggles, and they do interface correctly to FSX through FSUIPC. However, they don't seem to work as I would expect. For example, to toggle beacon lights from ON to OFF I have to press the corresponding button on the button screen two times, not once. Below is a FSUIPC log of changing the beacon lights from OFF to ON to OFF. On the WideFS buttons screen, I have to press the switch 4 times: once t turn on the FSX lights, again with no control sent to FSX but the WideFS button changing from red to green, a third time to turn off the lights and turn the button red, and a fourth time to turn the button green again. WideFS button definitions appear after the FSUIPC log.

Have you assigned all the buttons in FSUIPC? The definition of the client button screen just determines what it looks like on screen. All those functions need assigning in FSUIPC, in the Buttons and Switches tab.
Don't forget, the example in the WideFS documentation was just that, an example. The parameters were provided to show how that part is done, but it is only half the job.
I use ButtonScreens as well, with touchscreens (better than a mouse), but mine look nothing like that one. Each user does his own thing. I thought you realised that. This is why it is so flexible.
Pete
OK, now I understand. Should have read the manual more carefully. thanks.

Pete:
Thank you! I have the buttons screen up on my laptop, and I am running Flightsim Commander over the WideFS connection to FSX on my Windows 7 64-bit Dell Studio. I start the WideFS client on the laptop, then FSC and connect to FSX in FSC. FSC correctly sees the connection, however when I use the mouse on the laptop to press a button on the maximized WideFS client button screen, nothing happens in FSX. Laptop is Windows XP Service Pack 2. Wideserver log and FSX log are copied below. Is there anything I am obviously doing wrong? I can see that the WideFS server had trouble getting an IPX/SPX socket, but FSC nevertheless runs OK. I can do some network troubleshooting if that would help. Same results if I am not running FSC (I just used that to test the connection).

Has anybody got a notepad or text version of the widefs button screen program in the appendix of the Widefs User Guide? It looks fantastic but the chance of a keying error in inputting such a large program is daunting. Looks like a great facility!

I see. Do you know offhand if there is a way to trace the action of the guage within FSX? If not, no problem. It's not worth further effort.
thanks again!
