As a commenter on Youtube said, that's an old video- and that's just the point. The need for people like them (us since I'm retired military) is as imperative now as it has ever been. May God Bless and thank you for remembering.

Captain Sullenberger deserves all the credit he's getting, but so do all the rest of the crew members. Who was the First Officer and cabin crew?
This was a case where, once all the bad stuff happened, a well trained, experienced and dedicated crew made all the difference. Did anyone else see the clip from across the river of the huge swarm of birds on the river bank next to a runway or taxi way? The B-1-RDs think they have the right of way and there is no way to keep them out of the way for more than a few seconds at a time. Several years ago, I saw an F-16 have to do almost a full aileron roll on very short final to miss a hawk.
Thank God and the crew that it came out like it did.

Tord,
I'm not real familiar with the FSX file structure, but I would suggest trying the Recycle Bin. The deleted file may be there.
Hope this helps,

The only thing I can think of is to try the recycle bin and see if an older copy is there.

Gary,
Great videos - what a way to spend some time. It would be very nice to have one of those in FSX - Carenado, are you listening?
IRL, I'm a very infrequent flyer, noncurrent as far is the FAA is concerned so I always fly with a CFI. He's the boss, I'm the driver. A couple days ago, I went to CAF Open Cockpit Day at Lancaster, Texas. It's only a 20 minute flight, but a lot of fun. There were two C172s of mid- to late 1950's vintage. One of them could have passed for the airplane I took my private pilot check ride in about 40 years ago. Both were beautifully restored.
Cheers,
Glenn

Gary,
I just saw your video - that does look about like what I did to a C206.
Keeps you humble.

Hmmm, Babel fish in the ear - is that anything like the bird of paradize flying up your nose :?: I think there was Doctor of Linguistics a few years ago talking about English not having been spoken in the colonies for years. Come around my place and I'll prove it.

I'm loving it. Only thing: I think I found something: Just inside the narrows to the north of 2B2, I found what looks like a couple fish jumping. I've tried to "land" my favorite amphib a couple times to try to get a shot (screen, that is). The first time, I beached it on a sand bar. The second time, I think I got yakitori (fried bird) rather than sushi. Man, those things are HARD. :D

It's an anti-ice device. It actually improves your visibility a lot when everything else ices over (not a good thing - get the heck outa there!!)

Chris,
Thank you for doing that. That chopper shows up outside my office window in Dallas every so often.

Daniel,
I can't answer directly but I know this has been discussed a couple times since it came out. Scan down the forum posts about 4 to 6 weeks ago. You should be able to find it.
Hope it, indirectly, helps,

EC135 T+,
In your first post you said you are running "Microsoft Flight Simulator Standard edition 2006". As far as I know, there is no such thing, at least by that name. There is a Standard Edition of FSX, so that must be it. As noted by the other responders, the EC135 requires FSX, Service Pack 2 which was released as part of Acceleration, and as a separate download a few months later. For what its worth I have the EC135, running on Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 and FSX with Accelaration. It runs well on the environment. The PC is running an E6400 Core Duo processor with 4 gig of system memory and a Geforce 8600GT card with 512 meg of memory.

They all work for me. The trick on the front side doors is to click below the handles - over the map pockets. For the side rear doors, there is a click spot on the door frame in front of the windows. Getting them closed sometimes requires cycling through the interior views to get to the spot. In both cases, just watch for the cursor to change shape - to a hand on my machine.
Glenn
-
Or, the polite version: Short on luck.
Glenn
-
Francois,
Could well be. Since no one else has jumped in reporting the same thing, it's unique to my machine. I don't remember when I first tried the route, before or after adding the FS9 Orcas. The entry is still in Scenery.cfg, just disabled. I'm very reluctant to hit the "remove" button in the scenery editor in FSX- don't know what that will do. I don't want to lose the FS9 option yet. I think I'll try manually editing it out. I'm really at the point of letting it go. Flying that particular route just isn't that important. Since I know about it, I just won't don't do it. CYPK and CYNJ are beautiful so long as I avoid going from, or over, Orcas. I can live with that.
Thanks to you and Jon for your kind patience and help.
Glenn
-
Jon,
Did as suggested. It didn't fix it and made the two fields big time ugly so I put it back.
I ran a couple more test flights. One from Orcas to near CYPK. Verified no runways so went south almost all the way back to Orcas, well clear of the area, then west to roughly the line direct north from Victoria, then north and up the river back to CYPK. Still no improvement. Then, depart Orcas, take the same west then north route - still no runways. So something about departing or overflying Orcas does it.
The whole series started with doing one of my favorite flights from FS9. Either direction from those two airports usually in the Carenado 206 with the San Juan Air paint, especially at dawn. It doesn't get better.
Thanks for all your attention and help. I think I'm convinced that the VanX package is not at "fault", just an unfortunate "victim" of an unusual situation.
Glenn
-
Jon,
Both the test flights are done. Victoria, head 360 to a point abeam CZBB, between Point Roberts and CYVR, then approximately 040 to CYPK. The runways are there. Hmmm, so the "dead spot", for lack of a better term, is not across the entire southern boundary.
Then, Valkaria FL to KCOI, getting as close to a 360 heading as I could - no issues.
If I am right that there is a dead point of undetermined size south of CYPK/CYNJ, I need a runway detect-o-scope  to get the entire dimensions. This whole thing is just shy of spooky - but it is a lot of fun. I think I've flown all the piston aircraft I have (capable of more than 120 knots), and a jet or two, as part of the process.
Anything else you'd like me to try?
Glenn
-
Jon, Next series is a two part test. First, what happens if I head from CYYJ, heading 000 and cross into the area? In other words, how big is the issue? Then, try it from someplace else.
I'll be back as soon as I can get an hour or so to do it.
Glenn
-
Jon,
Not that I've seen. Probably the easiest one to check that with is Canaveral. I'm going back on 12 hour shifts for part of the week so it may be a few days before I can test it.
I'm a professional geek. We had a very large go live at work last week - that's why I'm very tied up. That should be mostly over this week. Then, to add real insult to injury, my flying computer spent several days throwing blue screens at me via my Wi-fi connection to my DSL router. The fix was to hard wire the connection. It didn't make any points with my wife, but, what are you going to do?
Glenn
-
By the way, I know this thread's gotten pretty long. But, if anyone else can confirm or not confirm it, I'd love to know and I expect Jon would to.
Glenn
-
Jon,
Pardon me while I ramble - the thought process was fun.
Last flight last night was VERY interesting. I need a longer runway for what I had in mind. If I liked using a P-38 and P-51, how about an F-89 Scorpion? Well, outside of messing up the approach and breaking it when I got it "home", the departure airport was Bellingham (KBLI). Everything was where it should have been, runways and all. Hmmm. My initial thought was "is Bellingham in the VanX area?" I didn't think so.
So then I did as you suggested - everything not default, except VanX, was off. Departure from default Orcas, no runways. So, just for fun, departure for Victoria (CYYJ?). The runways are there. OK, that's interesting, two more series. Turn on just Pier 39 that came with the Aerosoft Beaver. That thought hit just because it isn't too far from the test area. CYYJ, OK; KORS, not OK. Turn almost everything back on. The series was CYYJ first, runways are there. Then, KFHR. No runways. I noted that I overflew KORS to get there. The heading is 000 degrees. CYYJ and KFHR are both just over 40nm away from CYPK. KORS is 32. Then, just to test a hypothesis, bearing 210 away from CYPK for about 10 miles. Set the OBS to 030 to the Pitt Meadows VOR and come back. Still no runways.
So, I'm left with an observation: If I approach from due south magnetic, or very close to it, no runways. Offset it a few degrees either way and all is well. It doesn't matter how I maneuver after I'm in the area. Whatever happens, happens at the point where I cross the line. Most curious.
As you can tell, I'm a flight sim junkie. The airplane tonight was the Real Air SF-260. What a sweat heart! It "suffered" least from frame rate issues of anything else I've tried.
I haven't check a map to see what might be due north and how far away. That's an interesting thought.

Jon,
SP1 is on board. I bought the computer in May. Its a Vista 32 bit, Home Premium machine. FS9 went on first, them FSX a few days later and SP1 immediately after. Then, came the few add-ons I had at the time. One of them was XClass, quite some time before you released VanX. As of now, it's still disabled.
I disabled all three parts of VanX. All the default hard surface airports in the Vancouver area, from CYVR to CYCW are there, including CYPK and CYNJ, so is one of my other favorites in the area, CAK3. I didn't get all the way up to Pemberton or Hope. Then, I re-enabled VanX. All the same airports, and the city are OK, except CYPK and CYNJ. All the buildings and surrounding area are there, just no runways.
In these tests, I took fast movers just to cover ground. The SU P-38L and Shockwave P-51 were a lot of fun, even with some pretty slow frame rates. All the earlier flights where in more "appropriate" GA aircraft.
The cfg file is below. The forum wouldn't allow any extension I could think of. I assume it allows only bitmaps?
I'll stop short of a full reinstall "just" to fix two airports. That's just more work than I'm willing to do given the number of add-ons involved. I really enjoy the more remote areas of the package, and, just to restate the fact, everything works if I start the flight in the covered area.

Holger,
Good Evening. I don't have any dedicated AI packages. VancouverX is at positions 1-3, Dilingham is at number 6 (4 and 5 are disabled attempts at getting the old Orcas and Emma packages to work in FSX). Another possibility is the Feelthere Citation Animations at position 7.
By the way, Orcas seems to work fine, but Emma is a bit of mess. There is a big power tower right at the departure end of Runway 36 and I got a building strike in the middle of the runway.

If Aircop's suggestion doesn't pan out (I hope it does), what is your graphics card, what model, how much memory and what driver version?
