  1. Thomas, I'll have PFC check out the controller. In the meantime, I'll manually configure the detents as shown in the User Guide. Interestingly, I checked and the PMDG 747-8i's flap detents, and they are similarly structured, but the bottom detents are somewhat further apart and it never caused me a problem. Thanks again for your assistance, Robert
  2. Hi Thomas, As you requested, attached is a copy of my fsuipc6.ini as it pertains to the PMDG 737 NGXu. Please remember that in the fsupc GUI the Flaps pane indicates that there are 9 detents for the Flaps and that the increments are 4094. I don't see where this information is set forth in the ini settings. Thanks for your assistance. Robert Robert's fsuipc ini for PMDG 737 NGXu.pdf
  3. I have a problem with my hardware flaps lever and the PMDG 737 NGXu in P3Dv5. I am using fsuipc 6. I am using a PFC USB TQ which has a flaps lever that is assigned and calibrated through fsuipc. The problem is that the detent settings are grossly uneven. For instance, the range of motion for Flaps 1, 2, 5, 10 and 15 takes up more than 4/5 of the lever’s entire range of motion. This means that Flaps 25, 30 and 40 are squeezed into the last 1/5 of the range of motion. It is almost impossible to set Flaps 30 because with the limited range of motion you almost always go from Flaps 25 to Flaps 40 instead. We’re talking about almost infinitesimal movement of the lever in this lower range between flap settings. Fsuipc indicates that there are 9 detents for the lever and that the increments are 4094. In all the years I’ve used fsuipc and the PMDG 737, I’ve never encountered this problem. There’s always been a sufficient space between flap settings so that the correct setting could be attained without making micro adjustments. Any thoughts on what might be the problem here and how I might fix it? Let me be clear. My lever does not have physical detents. It is a smooth flowing lever and has always relied on fsuipc’s ability to determine the number of detents and separate them accordingly over the lever’s range of motion. Thanks for your assistance. Robert
  4. Good point. Indeed, I'm currently using your built-in utility for this purpose with my Saitek TQs and had forgotten that. I appreciate that whether I were to use fsuipc or your built-in utility, either should theoretically work with the PFC turboprop TQ. I was simply looking for some reassurance from someone who has actually been able to setup the detents with this particular hardware. PFC's sales department has been very discouraging in this regard. Essentially, they've told me to use X-Plane if I want to use their TQs. Due to their stiff restocking fee, I was hoping to get some further actual user feedback before taking the plunge. Thanks for your input. Robert
  5. I would like to know if anyone has experience using the PFC USB turboprop TQ with the Real Air Turbo Duke v2 and the Majestic Q400. I am most interested in learning if you've been able to use fsuipc to program the detents built into the TQ for the beta range on these planes. Thanks, Robert
  6. Pete, thanks for clarifying this for me. While awaiting your response, I ran across your Profiles in Separate Files announcement and think I will give it a try. It is a feature that may make the conversion process worthwhile for me. Thanks again for the support. Robert
  7. Pete, thanks. Now, one more question, since you brought up the Profile facilities in fsuipc a few posts back. I’ve been reluctant to implement this feature because I go way back with fsuipc, and have stuck with using the “aircraft-specific” facilities for each plane in my hangar, which has worked well for me—though a bit tedious when changing hardware. Now that I’m about to change my yoke, pedals, joystick, and TQ, it may be time to reconsider the Profiles facilities you introduced several years ago. I appreciate that a single set of assignments for levers can work for a defined type of aircraft, e.g., single engine prop, twin engine prop, twin engine turbo, twin engine jet, etc. But what I’ve been concerned about—and what has prevented me from pursuing implementation of fsuipc’s Profile facilities—is how do I handle the unique characteristics of the various planes within these broad categories. For example, how do I use different slope settings for different aircraft within the same broad category such as twin engine jet? Do I have to setup a new profile for each jet aircraft, based on my default jet profile, and then edit it to include my slope settings for that particular aircraft if it doesn’t follow my default slope settings? Similarly, how do I customize different button commands for each plane’s popup windows within a broad category? I use my yoke buttons to popup 2D windows using the Shift+n commands. But each plane usually has different popups and different Shift+n assignments for these popups. So, again, do I have to setup a new profile, based on the default profile for that particular type of aircraft, and then edit it to include the specific button settings for that particular aircraft’s popup windows? Or is there a simpler way to accomplish this customization? If not, then, for me anyway, there seems to be no advantage to using Profiles. Thanks for your assistance. Robert
  8. Pete, thanks for this important info. Let me make sure I understand what you’re saying about the PMDG and Airbus aircraft. I think you’re saying that I won’t be able to assign fsuipc’s reverser axis command (in the pull down command list on the left side of the axis assignment window) to the dedicated reverser levers on the PFC USB TQ. Instead, I will have to use P3D’s F2 key command. Here’s how I would anticipate utilizing this F2 command. Please let me know if this is what you have in mind. I would go to fsuipc’s Axis Assignment window and move the TQ’s dedicated reverser lever for Throttle 1 to select it. Then, in the right side area of the fsuipc window, I would setup a range for the upper part of the lever and assign it to the Throttle 1 Cut command in the pull down list. Then, I would setup a second range for the lower part of the lever and assign it to the Throttle 1 Decr command in the pull down list and have it repeat if found to be necessary. Then, I would repeat this process for the Throttle 2 reverser lever using the Throttle 2 commands. In this way I can utilize the PFC USB TQ’s dedicated reverser levers as though I’d assigned a reverser axis command to them. Am I on track? Thanks, Robert
  9. In that case, here's what I'm most concerned about: 1. Will the PFC USB turboprop TQ work with the Real Air Turbo Duke v2 and the Majestic Q400? I am most interested in the ability to use fsuipc to program the detents built into the TQ for the beta range. 2. Will the PFC USB two-engine enhanced jet TQ work with the PMDG 737 and 777 and the Aerosoft Airbus? I am most interested in the ability to use fsuipc to program the TQ's dedicated reverser levers. Thanks, Robert
  10. Thanks, Pete. I very much appreciate your prompt input. Now, I'd like to hear from anyone who is actually using the PFC USB TQs, and learn if they have any tips for setting them up with fsuipc. No one seems to post about this, and perhaps that indicates that it's really trouble free, which I hope is the case. Thanks, Robert
  11. Before investing in the PFC jet throttle quadrant with dedicated reverser levers and the PFC turboprop twin engine throttle quadrant with detents for the beta range, I wanted to make sure that others have been able to get these TQs to work properly in P3D v3.1 using fsuipc in Windows 7. PFC sales isn’t terribly helpful, and they stress that they do not support P3D and profess a buyer beware attitude. I suspect that their USB TQs will work just fine with P3D but they don’t want to be bothered with supporting the required fsuipc configuration. In this regard, there is an October 2014 post in the Avsim forum that indicates that they should work. See http://www.avsim.com/topic/449386-pfc-throttle-quadrant-not-working-in-p3d-v23/. I was hoping that Pete (who I think uses the serial version of PFC hardware but who may have some experience with the USB TQ devices) or some others who actually use the PFC USB TQs might be able to give me some reassurance. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Robert
  12. Peter T, thanks for posting this solution. I'm sure it will be helpful to others who might experience this problem. It parallels somewhat my own experience that I never documented here because I couldn't be sure what I'd done exactly and I also felt it was probably a one off. I gave up on my TQ and arranged for Saitek to send me a new one. I can't remember now whether they sent me a PS2 or a USB replacement, but I believe it was USB. I unplugged my PS2 TQ and plugged in the new one. I never messed with the Device Manager at all. But even with the new TQ I still had the same problem as before. So I planned to return it, removed it, and plugged my old TQ back in. Lo and behold, FSX and fsuipc both suddenly recognized the axis on my original TQ that had been giving me the problem. Thanks, Robert
  13. Pete, it appears that when I copied over my settings from the FSX fsuipc.ini, I didn't notice that the default ini for P3D already had a Buttons section. So I wound up with 2 Buttons sections and fsuipc looked at the first one in the ini and found nothing. Later in the ini is my default FSX Buttons section that wasn't being read. 14. Pete, here's the log file for the ini which has the default button commands included in the aircraft specific button section. 15. Pete, the second set of attached files above may contain the wrong log file. The log file I attached may have been for the first ini with only the custom button commands. I will attach the proper log file in a few minutes after I setup a flight using the second ini, which is the one with the default button commands included in the aircraft specific button section. Sorry for the confusion. Robert
  16. Pete, here are the files you asked for. I used the default Carenado A36 for these tests since I no longer have the A2A C172 installed for it didn't work very well with P3D v2. The problematic behavior is the same with either plane. Here's my fsuipc.ini file with a Default Button section and an A36 Button section with just a single custom key command since there are no other popups I'm interested in. Only the custom command works. None of the commands in the Default Button section work. 17. OK, I've been able to diagnose what I believe is the source of the problem. It has nothing to do with the A2A C172. I I think the problem lies with P3D and how it's interacting with fsuipc. The Button, Axis and Calibration sections were read for the Twin Otter because my ini had full instructions for all commands contained in the relevant sections. However, for single engine planes I use a default set of ini settings for these three sections. Then, for each such plane, I have a separate ini button section that is aircraft specific and that generally handles the yoke keys that control the Shift+n popups, which usually differ from plane to plane. With the A2A C172 it turns out I was able to access all of the aircraft specific ini commands (usually there are just 4 lines of commands) but none of the ini commands contained in the default button ini section. However, if I copied the default button ini commands into the aircraft specific button ini section for the A2A C172, then I had access to the commands. I have found that this is the case for any single engine plane that I install in P3D v2. My default Axis and Calibration ini settings are recognized. My aircraft specific Button ini settings are recognized. But my default Button ini settings are not recognized. One other thing of note, I do not have the aircraft specific ini button commands override those in the default set of button ini commands. The aircraft specific button commands are for unique buttons on my yoke that are not assigned in the default button ini section. So what I have is the default Axis and Calibration settings being recognized but not the default Button settings. Any thoughts? I can obviously live with just expanding the aircraft specific button section in the ini to contain all the settings found in the default button ini section, which is what I am now doing. But this is not how it worked in FSX. Robert
  18. I think this is more a P3D or A2A C172 problem than an fsuipc problem, but I thought I would post just in case anyone has some thoughts on what the problem might be. I am running the very latest fsuipc designed for P3D v2. I got the A2A C172 into P3D using the Estonian Migration Tool. The plane responds to my axes assignments and their calibration. However, it does not recognize any of my yoke and TQ button commands. I have controllers disabled in P3D. I am old school and use customized fsuipc.ini entries for each plane, not profiles. I just copied over my A2A C172 button, axes, and calibration settings from FSX to P3D for this plane. The ini section headings for the plane all use the same title for the plane and match up with the Title in the aircraft.cfg. For some reason, however, my yoke and TQ see the fsuipc axes assignments but do not see the fsuipc button assignments. I have brought into P3D one other plane from FSX - the Aerosoft Twin Otter -and it has not experienced this problem. All the button and axes assignments are recognized by the plane. Thanks, Robert
  19. Pete, with your encouragement, I will pursue this with Saitek support again. I will keep you posted. Thanks again for your support. Robert
  20. Pete, Saitek support is unable to help me. They say that if the lever checks out in the Windows calibration pane, then it's functioning properly. They have no idea why it's not being properly recognized in FSX or fsuipc. So that's been a dead end for me. At the moment, I'm resigned to living without this lever. It's not worth it to me to spend a week reinstalling Windows, FSX and all my addons in the hope that this might resolve the problem. I'll just wait until I build a new machine to do all that. And it doesn't appear that getting a new TQ will help given that my present one is found faultless by Saitek. In any event, at least since April of last year all Saitek TQs have been - to my mind - defective because they lack firm detents at the bottom of the lever path. Compared to earlier production runs, you hardly know the detents are there. Saitek is aware of this problem and has told me that it will be corrected in the future when their present inventory is exhausted. Robert
  21. I've explored all the suggestions mentioned so far in this thread, and none leads to an explanation of, or solution to, this vexing problem. Thanks for all your input. Robert
  22. Before posting, I did search the Saitek forum and the only possible relevant post I could find dealt with a situation where the TQ didn't calibrate properly in the Windows calibration pane - the one you access through the Control Panel. In my case, the calibration looks just fine in this pane; it is only when you get to FSX or fsuipc that a problem arises with the left lever. I will contact Saitek support again today and see if I can get some more assistance since there seems to be a fix out there. Thanks for the input. Robert FWIW, here is the relevant portion of the post I found: To recalibrate in Windows, first remove the USB plug for your controller from the PC. Press and hold the Windows key on your keyboard and then press the letter R. This will open the Run box. Type regedit and then click ok. The Registry Editor will have a list of folders on the left hand side. Go down into the following folders in order by clicking the + next to the folder name. +HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE (CURRENT_USER if on Vista) +System +CurrentControlSet +Control +Media Properties +Private Properties +Direct Input Delete any folder inside the Direct Input folder that begins VID_06A3. Once deleted, close the editor, then plug the USB back into the original port. Move all the axes of the controller through their full range of movement four times. Now go to Control Panel > Game Controllers > Properties to check the axes on the test screen. If the issue persists then test the controller on another PC to see if the issue is replicated. If it is replicated then it is most likely a fault with the controller which will need to be replaced if it is still within warranty.
  23. I am posting here and in the Avsim hardware forum in the hope that someone might have a solution to this problem. I have a Saitek yoke and attached TQ with 3 levers. The first lever, the one on the left, is no longer being recognized properly by FSX or fsuipc, as I will explain below. First, let me make clear that this axis is recognized in the Windows 7 control panel Devices and Printers. When you go to the Game Controller Settings you see the three axes for the three levers on this TQ. These are labeled Z Axis, X Rotation and Y Rotation. All three vertical graphs show a red bar with full, smooth movement from top to bottom for the three levers. However, the first lever, the one identified as the Z Axis in the Windows control panel, is not properly recognized in FSX or in fsuipc. For example, if I assign the Throttle command to this axis in FSX, and I then go to calibrate it in FSX, the window shows that the X and Y Rotation axes move fully and smoothly through the full range on the horizontal graphic representation. But this Z axis, which I’ve assigned to the Throttle command, is only 50% filled in with color (which may be normal) but jumps from no color to 50% color when you move the lever (which is not normal). There is no graduated movement from one end to the other. Just an immediate jump from no fill color to 50% fill color. Then, when you go to calibrate the Z axis, the horizontal bar in the Windows calibration pane is devoid of any color and does not fill up as it should when you move the lever representing this Z axis through its range of motion. However, if you check the “Display raw data” box it shows movement from 0 to 255. In FSX, this translates into a throttle control that goes from idle to full throttle with the slightest upward movement of the lever. Also, if you pull the lever from full throttle all the way back, you cannot get back to idle but instead get to about 20% throttle. For what it’s worth, you can control the throttle with the F1-F4 key commands, which work properly. The same result happens if I assign and calibrate this Z Axis lever in fsuipc, which is how I ordinarily assign and calibrate this axis. First, of course, I delete any axis throttle assignments in FSX so there will be no conflict and then do the assignment and calibration in fsuipc. The two boxes on the far left of the Throttle section of the Main Flight Controls pane in fsuipc jump from 0 to 16383 when you move the lever. There is no graduated movement. I’ve tried manually setting the fsuipc.ini file to reflect a full range of movement but it makes no difference. In FSX, I get the same behavior that I’ve described above when I do the assignment and calibration within FSX. I’ve spoken with Saitek tech support about this, and they say that as long as the Windows 7 control panel Devices and Printers shows full and gradual movement for this lever there is not a hardware problem and it is software related. I’ve rebuilt the fsx.cfg but this didn’t help. I’ve assigned the Throttle command to the other two levers on the TQ and they work properly. In fact, any command I might assign to this problematic Z Axis doesn’t work as it should. I should add that this lever worked properly before. It is only suddenly that it no longer works. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Robert
  24. Peter, thanks for the clarification. Refreshing scenery or the aircraft don't seem to solve the problem for me, but sometimes - at least on an approach - reducing AI traffic can make a difference. I've never tried reloading panels and will do so. It's interesting, but you are the cause of my having OOMs, at least in Orbx PNW. Let me explain. Previously, my flights in PNW were of very short duration for I was plagued by g3d.dll errors. You solved that problem. But now that I was able to actually fly in PNW for more than 10 or 15 minutes, I then became subject to these OOMs. So I went from the frying pan into the fire. How about a fix for the OOMs? If anyone is going to do it, it is going to be you. Thanks for all your assistance. Robert
  25. Peter, in this thread you indicate that in order to possibly avoid the OOM when you're aware it is near, you can try "saving the flight and maybe doing something like reloading memory or aircraft, to force a memory defrag." I know how to save a flight and how to reload an aircraft, but I don't know how one goes about "reloading memory." Could you please explain this further? Thanks, Robert
