Pete,
Did a test tonight and though I would share the result with you to try helping you narrowing down what's causing these CTDs.
Come to think of today I haven't checked for new versions of my display drivers for some time. Checked ATI's website and noticed there was a new version of the official Catalyst drivers so I downloaded and installed them...went from installation package 6-8_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_35179 -> 7-1_xp_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_40211.
After the upgrade of the display drivers I though I would give FSUIPC v 3.71 another try but...after loading FS it vanished by itself after approx 1 minute and I was back at my desktop...
I then went back to v 3.70 and FS is running just fine so I guess you can rule out the display drivers beeing the culprit.
Best,
Richard

I was the one starting the thread over at AVSIM and since I got this tip from Lee going back to v 3.70 of FSUIPC I haven't had a single CTD.
I am still trying to make 3.717 crash -- I managed to get one CTD with 3.715 using LeeWang's suggestions, but I can't so far make any CTDs occur at all, on one ATI-equipped PC nor two nVidia ones. It's a puzzle. It must be sorted -- I cannot support 3.70.
Pete
Let me know if you think I can be of any more help Pete.

Hi Pete,
Sorry for not posting here until now.
I was the one starting the thread over at AVSIM and since I got this tip from Lee going back to v 3.70 of FSUIPC I haven't had a single CTD.
As for the GFX card I'm using an ATI X1900 XTX.
All the best,

Hi Holger,
Thanks alot for your very detailed reply, I think we've got the order right here now and it will be very interesting to see what FS will look like now :-)

Hi,
Just bought FSGenesis mesh for all regions + the World Buffer Terrain, MyWorld2004 - Landclass 2005 Edition, Ultimate Terrain Europe and Ground Environment Pro II and now I'm thinking of how to install all this to have the best possible result of all products combined.
After reading this post about the importance of the order of the mesh files in the scenery library I get a bit confused since I read this over at FSGenesis site in their FAQ.
"If I have overlapping terrain files, how does Flight Simulator handle that?
Flight Simulator scans all folders registered in the Scenery Library for terrain files and adds them to its on-the-fly database. It then sorts out their locations and automatically displays the highest LOD (resolution) it finds. In other words, if you have 76.4m terrain covering the same area that you have 38.2m terrain, the 76.4m gets dumped from memory and the 38.2m gets displayed.
This is great for mixing and matching resolutions. Say you have the US 76.4m Terrain, The Rockies 38.2m Terrain, and the Grand Canyon 9.6m Terrain installed. The Grand Canyon 9.6m terrain will display, surrounded by The Rockies 38.2m Terrain, with the US 76.4m terrain displaying everywhere else."
From what I understand after reading this, the order of the mesh in the scenery library doesn't matter since FS will automatically choose the mesh with the highest LOD for a particular area if mesh in different resolution is overlapping in that specific area.
So...could someone please clarify how I should install all these products for the best result in FS?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Martin,
Thanks for your reply but everything works just fine now, didn't realize at the beginning that the online traffic was dependent on the 40 nm condition.
All the best,

Alastair,
Thanks for your very informative post. Regardless of the way to describe flight routes, FSNavigator seems to be a very nice add-on.
All the best,
Richard

Thanks Bob, I'll do a serach and see if I can find that old thread.

Hi again Alastair,
The "pink line" indeed is a very good help to find your way to the right gate but that feature is only available when flying offline and since I'm mainly flying online that isn't of any help to me unfortunately. And since FSNav already has the function to show you the gates at an airport, it shouldn't be that hard to do the changes needed so it will be compatible with the new afcad files as well. Let's hope for a future update.
When it comes to the flightplan format, I honestly don't think that is airline specific. I'm far from an expert on the subject, but as I understand it the shorter format to describe a route simply works in a way where all waypoints along an airway is excluded since that is superfluous information since the waypoints are already a part of the airway your flying. Just like when you drive your car on a motorway, you don't have to mention all towns you will pass when driving from A to B - all you need to mention is what motorway you should use and if you need to change to another motorway at some point or any other intersections where you should switch to another way. But this isn't a big issue since I already have a great online flightplanner that works in this way. Just thought it would be nice to try FSNav's flightplan routing.
All the best,
Richard

Hi Alastair,
OK, thanks for the info. Too bad it is like that since the possibility to find a specific gate when you're at an unfamiliar airport is a very nice feature. Is it likely that there will be any more updates to FSNav that might address this problem or is FSNav considered a "done" project?
Have one more question about FSNav when I'm at it. I'm mainly doing all my flights online and when using FSNav to plan the route, what is the most convenient way to get the flightplan in text so I can do a copy and paste it into the online flightplan?
Before I got FSNav, I've been using an online flight planner which gave me the route in the format NOSLI UN850 ODINA for instance which is the route between ESSA Arlanda->LIMC Malpensa. Is there a way to have FSNav produce the same kind of output instead of all the waypoints from dep to arr airport?
All the best,
Richard

Hi,
How come does not all gates show up on the FSNav map for some airports? At some airports, all gates are present on the map and for other airports only a few number of the gates.
Cheers

Hi,
Downloaded FSNavigator 4.6 for evaluation but have a problem, I don't see any online traffic on the FSNavigator map even thought I have the 'Multiplayer Aircraft' option switched on. I'm connected to IVAO using the latest version of IvAp and have of course connected to the multiplayer session in FSNavigator as described in the documentation.
Anyone got this to work? I'm not interested to invest EUR35.00 in FSNavigator if the integration with online flying doesn't work as advertised...
TIA,
FSUIPC 3.71 causes CTD. FSUIPC 3.70 OK.

I'm sorry to hear that Pete, this is really a strange and annoying problem!
My guess since we're a bunch of guys having this very same problem but still not all of us is that it's a combination of FSUIPC v 3.71 and
- another program
- a specific hardware combination
These are the programs I'm using (part from FS9 of course ;-) )
GE Pro II
Ultimate Terrain Europe
FS Genesis World wide Mesh
MyWorld2004 Landclass
ASv6
Ultimate Traffic
ActiveCamera
FSRealTime
FSNavigator
Autower
FSPassengers
And my HW setup below
ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard
Intel Core2 Duo E6600
2 GB Corsair Extreme RAM
2 x SATA Raid0 Arrays a 300 GB
ASUS EAX 1900XTX 512 MB
SB Audigy 2 ZS
Realtek High Definition Audio
Hope this can be of some help!
Best,
Richard
