Hi all,
I have been really busy over the last few weeks, and I keep meaning to update it, but never get around to doing it. The coding for the downloads database is almost complete, but I am in the process of moving it to a much cheaper and more reliable host. I will let you all know when some updates start taking shape - hopefully this weekend!
Cheers,
James

WOW!
Nice ship. However...how on earth were you able to get that detailed scenery?!

Very Nice! I can't wait to see it released.

Where are the mods? We need them!

spookymufu, that would be an excellent feature. I use X-Plane and that program allows you to download real life weather anywhere in the world which can then be used in the game. If Virtual Sailor could do something similar, it would be awesome (maybe thats after we have bow sprays etc!).

This ship does not have a bridge, but has flooring in the passenger areas of the vessel. Good work Tobseren.

Aww...lucky. :)

And did you model it using the Free Trial version? Or did you purchase it for £315.00?
James
-
They want £315 for it. :? Surely for that price you'd be better off paying a bit more for 3DS Max?
James

I've got one which I am in the process of creating: http://www.virtual-sailor-central.co.uk Its taking a little longer than expected.

Thanks :D
I'm using SKetchUp .. VERY simple and easy :D
Excellent results with such a simple program - I thought you were going to say GMAX or 3D Studio Max!
James
-
Oh no - GMAX isn't going??! I'll have to learn Wings instead. I can't afford 3D Studio Max.
James

Good work Sharkyland!
Out of interest, what programs are you using to model this vessel?

Thank you all for your comments. I won't be making any updates this evening (GMT), but during this weekend I plan to make some large updates - so keep your eyes peeled!
I am sure the chat service will become more popular once a larger number of people know about the service. If it is popular enough, I may try and find software which is slightly better and has more options.

RE: New Website launched
Dear Valued Member,
As some of you will know, some months ago I launched a new website with a similar, but different title to the new one I have chosen. The website failed miserably, mainly due to a lack of funds, poor website design, and a poor response from this community. I am hoping that the same will not happen this time.
The website is titled "Virtual Sailor Central". However for short we can either use the name "VSCentral", or "VSC". Although the website is still under construction, several web pages have been uploaded ready for you to explore! The website is registered under paid hosting along with a paid domain - I am hoping that because of greater options that with a free web host, the outcome will be more successful than before.
Please note that the forums for the site are not yet up, however a chat service is in place and will remain in place once the forum has been set up, should anyone wish to use it.
I would be very grateful to hear your comments on the new website. I am hoping that another website in the Virtual Sailor world will promote the game further - at present there are hardly any active fan sites in place.
Website address: http://www.virtual-sailor-central.co.uk
Thank you

I'm not sure if anyone is interested in reading the report from the last ever Portsmouth - Le Havre (England, UK - France) ferry crossing with P&O Ferries? (Its a 6 hour crossing, therefore 12 hours return).
If so, its here: http://users.boardnation.com/~will/indeeadid=3314

A POST FOR THE P&O PORTSMOUTH CREW
As some of you may know, tomorrow, the 30th September 2005, P&O Ferries will be stopping its Portsmouth - Le Havre (England - France) ferry service. P&O Ferries operates this route with 2 ships (The Pride of Portsmotuh and Pride of Le Havre).
After many years of good service, the route has had to be closed down due to no profits being made. ALL the crew onboard both of the ships are going to be made redundant by the end of September (tomorrow evening GMT). This post is dedicated to them, for keeping the ships so clean and comfortable.
At present, both ferries have around 4 crossings left (as of posting this message), before P&O Ferries stops these 2 ships on this route FOREVER. A prayer for them.
LD Lines will be taking over the route with a new ship, but will not be with the same crew, and will be a smaller ship, making just 1 return crossing a day. With P&O, each of the 2 ships made 3 single crossings a day - thats a total of 6 single crossings)!
A thought for all of those crew. Thank you to everyone who travelled with P&O Ferries. Good luck.

Perhaps I can hear a good modeller coming to make a ship dedicated to the crew of these ships?

3D Modellers don't tend to take modelling requests.
However, you can download ferries from these three websites:

I have been hunting the internet for tips on how to get increased fps. Below I outline a few suggestions in my own words:
1) Delete any unessesary icons off your desktop as lots of icons can slow down your computer.
2) You can try disabling your sound card, but means you have no sound. :(
3) Your best option is to run Virtual Sailor in this screen mode: 800 x 600. When running Virtual Sailor in screen resolution 1028x768 I got about 10-11 fps. Running it in screen resolution 800x600 meant I managed to get 29-30 fps!
I also suggest you read this thread on another forum:
http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/shgenumber=1
( Although it is aimed at Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, there are still a number of points which may help you with Virtual Sailor).

I managed to translate some of this:
Hello,
Its good to see Spainish people in this forum, I started to think I was the only Spainish person here. Do you know if there is some ferry of trasmediterranea?
Not sure if anyone here can work out an answer?
jaume_444,
¡Hola amigo!

Version 7 Beta 2.0 update

I have updated my version of Virtual Sailor to this Version 2, but everytime I run the program, it opens up the menu, but when I click to go into the game Windows crashes and so the entire computer needs to be re-started. I have tried three times now, and its still not working. :(
