  1. Dear Debio,

This forum is not about who is the best FS pilot, we should try to pick technical problems here and report them to authors some reasonable and heplfull way.

So please, let's stop personal attack here.

Personaly, I don't think that having to look down to find gear lever and then trying to hit it with the mouse is realistic at all. Moreover, it usualy hides outside aircraft view on certain zooms at all.

In the real aircraft you don't have to do this do this - you just take your hand a move it automaticaly on the right place and do the action, what is equivalent to hitting G key or pushing some joystick button in FS.

If authors stated this is limitation we have to live with, then OK, but I see no reason why we shouldn't try to report it so that they know what do we think about.

  2. Ok. Originaly I didn't want to publish this, but because patch is still unavailable, here is a way how to avodi engine shutdown uppon "hard" landing.

Go to your gauges\Mi-24 folder and find fuel_op.xml. Backup it.

Open it in any editor, find this:

    (A:G FORCE,Gforce) 2.5 > if{ (>K:ENGINE_AUTO_SHUTDOWN) }

and remove it. Your problem is "fixed" (at least until oficial patch is out).

  3. Hi Peter and Tamas,

First, I am glad we have agreed the meaning of Mi-24 tanks in FS as follows:

    Left Aux - N3 tank

    Left - N4 tank

    Right - N5 tank

    Center - N1 consumtion

    Center 2 - N2 consumtion

External 1 - Left Inner external tank

Extarnal 2 - Right inner external tank

Left Tip - Left outer exteranl tank

Right tip - Right outer external tank

Based on this, I have watched the fuel system behavior and tried to play with a little. I have found that switching N4 and N5 pumps on or off has no effect on fuel system and the way the tanks are drained. Order in which tanks become drain is always the same and always wrong.

You can notice this easily. When you fly for a while, you will see "Fuel tank N2 on reserve" red light on the tabloo. If you look on the fuel remaining you will see that there is really low fuel level in Center 2 which is N2 tank, while there is lot of fuel in N3 and N5 yet (also in N4, but there is no relationship between N4 and N2 in real plane).

In real machine, fuel is drawn following way from tanks:

Consider all fuel valves and "crossfeed" (I mean valves between N4 N1 and N5 N2 respectively) valves are opened and N1, N2, N4 and N5 pumps are on.

If extarnal fuel tanks are attached, they are drained first. Then N3, then N4 and N5 simultaneously then N1 and N2 simultaneously. Only when external, N3, N4 and N5 tanks are dry, then N1 and N2 fuel level decreases.

However, if N4 and N5 pumps are not turned on, then only fuel from N1 and N2 tanks is used, although there might be lot of fuel in external, N3, N4 and N5 tanks.

In your model, turning N4 and N5 pumps has no effect (I think it is minor problem, but would be nice to have it too). Do you plan to fix the Mi-24 fuel system (mainly the fuel tank usage order) by some patch?

    Thank you

  4. Hi Peter and Tamas,

I have noticed one thing which I personaly don't like on the AZS_Switches, respectively on the way how do they work. When I switch AZSs on one side, some of them are swicthed also on the other panel. The cause is the AZS_Fake.

There are many really working AZS, but also some which does nothing - AZS_Fake. It is OK, I understand that everything can't be simulated, but those AZS_Fake are located on both sides of pilot's seat. They also share the same variable (of course) so that when one is switched on or off, all other fake switches follow.

Do you think it would be possible to split the AZS_Fake to two pieces - AZS_Fake_Left and AZS_Fake_Right, so that I could switch AZSs on one side on or off while AZSs on other side keeps their positions?

    Thank you

  5. Hi Peter and Tamas,

I am trying to figure out which tank is which in FS. I think it is this way:

    FS Name Name in docuemnation

    Left Aux - N3 tank

    Left - N4 tank

    Right - N5 tank

    Center - N1 consumtion

    Center 2 - N2 consumtion

External 1 - Left Inner external tank

Extarnal 2 - Right inner external tank

Left Tip - Left outer exteranl tank

Right tip - Right outer external tank

Am I right? Please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you in advance.

  6. The cause of the shutdown at landing may be only one thing: the G-force reaches the max value at touchdown. I set about 2.5 as maximum in the addon instead of the actual 1.8

Next thing which seems strange to me is this - when G allowed to some aircraft reaches it's maximum value, aircraft crashes, not just shut dow it's engines. But the people don't crash, they can start the engines again on the ground.

  7. Hi Peter,

If 1.8 is maximmum allowed, then safety coeficient 1.5 tells me you should set 2.7 to add-on :-)

As I said - I don't own this add-on (this engine shutdown feature described by my friends still prevents me from buyng it), but the guys flying this told me their landings are quite smooth.

Developing 2.5 G doesn't look like smooth landing so there have to be another thing causing this...

  8. Hi Peter and Tamas,

I don't own your Mi-24 (yet), but the topic of this thread attracts me.

What exactly do you simulate by engine shutoff on "hard" landing?

I have talked to one guy here in Czech Republic who owns your Mi-24 and works as machanic on this machine in real life and he told me this is highly unrealistic behavior.

    Thank you for any response.

  9. Thank you for reply. I can't get Fuel quantity indicator powered by batery. Only circumstance it works is as follows:

AI-9V runs, it's generator is on and "Instruments Check switch" is on.

Also radio seems to be death until AI-9V runs (no need to connect it's generator, just starting it up is enough). Is that correct?

Next problem I have with electricity is that after engines start, when I connect generators, I can get current shown on ampermeters, but no voltage at all. Also VU6 voltmeters shows 0 even if I turn VU6 on. If I turn AC voltmeter to 115 and 115V selector switch to AUTO, voltmeter shows 0. If it is on manual, voltemter shows voltage.

Does anybody else experinece such problems with electricity or am I doing something wrong (I think I am doing everything according the checklist).

    Thank you for any reply.

  10. Hi pilots,

Don't you know what power source should Fuel Quantity indicator in Mi-17 use?

    Why do I ask:

There is interesting sequence in the checklist:

    Batery ON

    ....

    ....

DIM transformer ON (should not have an impact on Fuel Quantity Indicator I think)

    ....

    ....

    Fuel Quantity CHECK

    AI-9V starter engine START

From this sequence it seems to me that I should be able to check fuel quantity prior to starting APU, but fuel quantity indicator is inactive. To activate it, I have to use "Instruments Check Switch", which is turned on AFTER the AI-9V start is done (according to the checklist). Also, after engine start and having AC generators and VU-6 rectifiers on, when I set "Instruments Check Switch" finaly to off according to checklist, fuel quantity indicator gets inactive again...

So I would like to know how this thing does work in real Mi-17?

    Thank you for any response.

  11. No, it works for me. Question si what textures does your repaint modify.

For example repaint I use modifies just external textures. If I take these 3 textures and I put them together with original textures of re-loaded Mi-17, I have no problem with VC. As an example I use Czech Virtual Air Rescue Service textures (created for "old" Mi-17 model yet) on new Mi-17 model with no problems. The external textures which this repaint modifies are just three:

    ext01_t.bmp

    ext02_t.bmp

    ext03_t.bmp

Other textures are the same as for original model (new one).

    Edit:

I think that your repaint can modify also other textures (int*.bmp and ovh*.bmp) which may work for older model, but not for new one. Try to copy original texture folder for your new repaint and then replace just these begining with ext - they are for external model. It should work I think.

  12. Hi Mi-2 pilots,

I have found 2 problems with Mi-2 and it's fuel consumption and measuring of remaining fuel.

    1) Fuel consumttion:

Medical and Passenger versions eat too few fuel while military version eats too much I think (360 l/h). I have read that real Mi-2 eats 240-300 l/h. This is not easy to find correct setting for aircraft.cfg values so as a base, I have used numbers that Military version does.

    They are as follows:

    fuel_flow_scalar=9.4 in [GeneralEngineData] section

    and

    fuel_flow_gain= 0.5 in [TurbineEngineData] section.

    I have achieved consumption of 288 l/h setting fuel_flow_scalar=7.82.

If you have a time to experiment, you can publish your number/s for another consumption setting here.

    2) Fuel quantity indicator fix.

This is gauge with non-linear scale especialy between 500 and 600 liters. here is new Nonlinearity table for it so that it shows exactly what is in main tank. Gauge is stored in Your_FS_Folder\gauges\Mi-2\Fuel.xml

Replace element with this one to fix the gauge:
