Alrighty Greg, let us know when you'e tried out the rest ...

Hi Greg,
First, thanks Greg for trying out some stuff, you've obviously done your homework. Good data there.
Can you confirm you've patched FS9 to 9.1?
Please confirm that you have not overclocked your system.
Then if you're willing, I suggest doing a bit of work to narrow down why this might be occurring. Consider that the problem is likely a missing or corrupt FX file.
I am making an assumption that you've already confirmed that the problem does not occur with V+ disabled. Is that true? If not, please try uninstalling V+, and confirm you have the error. If you do have the error with V+ uninstalled, then work through your addons (disabling them in groups, lemme know if you want more info on that) until you narrow down the culprit.
Given that you've confirmed it's a V+ problem, see if the problem recurs after each of the following steps:
- turn off all AI traffic
- disable marine lights in the configurator
- disable CYPK in the configurator
- disable all airports/seaplane bases/heliports in the configurator
- disable the Vancouver+ scenery entry in the settings->Scenery Library (don't forget to restart the sim before testing this)
Let us know what you find out . . .

Great, Howard, thanks for this!

Hi Howard, thanks for doing this! I don't have FSNav, so maybe if you post on vancouverlandings.com someone can test it for you . . .

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your interest. Currently I'm working on a freeware Victoria, BC enhancement, VictoriaPlus (formerly known as vicenh06), and Holger is immersed in Tongass Fjords. Next up is Vauchez' CYVR, but I don't have new info on release date for that, as he's not quite done KPDX.
There are no announced specifics on future plans for Vancouver+ as yet.
I keep folks up to date on my activities on my blog, if you want to drop by there once in a while at http://jonpatch.wordpress.com.
Happy flying!

Thx for the comments, Murray and Pierre. I did live in Haligonia for a time 25 years ago or so, but sorry to say it's not on the list of upcoming goodies.

Hi Howard,
I don't know of any scenery for Ganges. I will be doing some minor improvements there in vicenh06, which is on hold until I get my computer upgrade worked out. I hope to restart on that within a week.

Hi Bill,
After you UnVoz, take a look for another scenery addon for the area. It looks to me you've got a conflicting addon.
First read the compatibility thread in this forum, and check against any addons you've got. If you can't find it, then in your FS9 startup screen, click on "settings", then on "scenery library". Deactivate any British Columbia or Vancouver scenery by unchecking the box beside, then after accepting the changes, close FS9, restart and try again. If that helps, then selectively bring back the BC sceneries until you've found the culprit.
Let us know how it goes.

Glad it's sorted out Don.

Hi Don,
Heli is correct: that's the screen you should have seen. I'm not sure what you mean by the "uninstall aborted". Could you clarify?
We'll indeed work to find a way to hopefully get you back up without reinstalling FS9!
Meantime, we'll look a little closer at the issue.

Hi Larry, I'm not sure what's happening with your scenery, but the airport corrections should work with 9.0 or 9.1, although I recommend 9.1.
Jon
-
Hi Larry,
I think the problem would only have been affected by Holger's mesh if an airport flatten was missing. Mesh should not normally affect an airport. So something's amiss.
Do you have the file Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\namw\scenery\FL915140.bgl? I think that's missing and should be there. See if you have renamed it something and rename it back.

Hi Larry,
I checked and indeed the southwest BC airport corrections do not change the altitude at CZBB. But if you have disabled those corrections, make sure you have disabled the elevation adjustment files for CAL3 and CYHE in Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\World\Scenery and the file Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\namw\scenery\FL915140_modified_for_airport_corrections.bgl
The problem you describe occurs when there is a mismatch between the airport altitude, the runway altitudes or the airport flatten altitude. If you don't have V+ or the airport corrections installed, then somewhere you've got a CZBB file that is conflicting.
Since ScanAFD didn't find anything then you could try a Windows search for "CZBB" in your FS9 folder and see what you come up with. (Start->Search->All or part of the file name. Then under "Look In:" expand the list with the little down arrow, scroll down to "Browse" and browse to your FS9 folder, and click on "Search".

Hi Alex,
Any other sceneries in the area? Like vicenh05? If so double-check the order of the scenery entries in the scenery library.
Jon
-
Tom, thanks for posting this here. In the V+ config, I assume you have UT USA checked.
Do you have other addons for the area, such as Holger's Cascades scenery?
Jon
-
Dunno about GE, but BEV has a variety of optional tree replacement textures.
Jon
-
Nope. BUT there is a reported incompatibility between Harvey's latest evi04 and that Comox scenery. You may want to explore this over on ViVa.

Andy, you have entered the Twilight Zone. I'm gonna have to look at this more closely!

Hi Andy,
It looks like they've consolidated many of the objects in this download:

Hi Andy,
I suspect I've been leading you down the garden path, as I have those aircraft at CAK3 as well! I'd checked the CAK3 source file, which does not have any aircraft in it. But THEN I checked in the sim and there they were: it appears the CAK3_OB1.bgl file is an old one from ap1514rw.bgl. Which means it references Rwy12 objects. Which was not intended. Oops.
So you can either delete CAK3_OB1.bgl or download Seev Kahn’s General Aviation Aircraft Rwy12 addon from AVSIM and follow the installation instructions. Lemme know if this works.
Thanks for your patience, and if you're headed to Norway, I'll buy you a beer: http://www.vanisleva.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3714&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=

question about visualfx.dll error
in Vancouver+ FS2004 Support Forum
Posted
No kidding, Greg, you are clearly special. This is a bit o fun indeed. Your next tasks are as follows:
1. crush some garlic and spread around all windows in your house while burning incense
EDIT: I misread your note!
2. With that scenery entry disabled, we've narrowed it down a bit. Re-enable that scenery entry in the library and navigate to:
Flight Simulator 9\FSAddon\VancouverPlus_1\VancouverPlus_1_scenery
and create a folder called "backup". Now I suggest moving .BGL files in groups from the Scenery folder to the Scenery\Backup folder until you've narrowed down the culprit. Groups of 10 should be fine, but be clear about which 10 you are moving each time, so you know what to move back when you begin to narrow it down.
Standing by . . .
