  1. Hello Richard and John -

As an owner of UT USA and a reader of all the posts in their forum, I can assure you that each version of Ultimate Terrain, whether north or south of the Canada-US border, installs two scenery library entries, one for the main country purchased and one for the overlapping bits spreading across the border into the other country. Installing the full version of both likewise produces two entries, so what appears to be a possible unwanted entry for the second country is in fact essential and properly present.

Further, the latest version of the primarily Canadian Ultimate Terrain is free to current owners. Check the UT forum for full support. This link is where I find it -

EDIT: One day I'll remember to spell Jon without the "h."

  2. Thank you for all your hard work. I just sampled the included flight in the Caravan at sunset from Coal Harbour, and it was simply beyond any expectation beautiful. The vessels departing, the sun warming the bottoms of the clouds, the buildings bathed in a golden glow. It was gorgeous.

And joy of joys, the fuel barges that so uniquely characterize that area were lit up in all their garish neon beauty. I can't tell you how much I looked forward to re-living that surprising experience from my visit there long ago.

What great fun. Thank you very much. :D :D :D

  3. Hi Seadog, I'll let Ken work on how we can improve the installer. Ken's been doing a fantastic job.

But I want to acknowledge your comments on the work that Holger has done to explain a complex issue. It's great to know it is appreciated. The source data is CDED 23m.

    Jon

Thank you, sir, for supplying that piece of the equation.

  4. Hi Seadog, you say you got no warning, did the VPlus Config panel run automatically after the installation?

Yes it did, Ken. From there, I read the manual, then chose to deselect the minor roads network and leave the humongous GA deselected. Then I affirmed my choices. Then I went to the scenery library in FS9, where I found none of the three V + 1 entries, added them, and began the laborious process of moving my add-on mesh per the manual from the bottom of the list 87 places up to the top times 6 entries = 533 separate mouse clicks. Do you think that aspect of FS9 could use some improvement? :)

  5. I also got no warning message, and had to manually add the 3 folders to the scenery library. I already had an FSAddon folder in the FS9 directory, because I had Misty, and the Vancouver+ 1 folder went in that subfolder, but didn't show up in the Scenery Library. Not a serious problem, and I had read pp. 21-22 before going to the Scenery Library List, so it was no big deal.

While on those pages, I have to say the advice about mesh priority was extremely helpful. I have struggled to understand it, with a swift kick from Holger recently, and this finally made it much clearer. For it to be absolutely perfect, it would be helpful to know the nature and quality of the source data of all the mesh, not just the LOD into which it has been converted and expressed, since the really tricky part in FS9 is correctly prioritizing identical LOD mesh by quality of source data, where quality refers to fineness of detail of the source data, not post-production considerations. Between this description, Steve Greenwood's discussion on his website, and Holger's previous commentary, that seems to me to be a missing and necessary element required by the equation. In particular, I use Steve Greenwood's LOD 10 mesh for the USA, a tiny portion of which overlaps the southern reaches of V + 1, and uses 30 m or one arcsecond source data.

I may actually get a chance to use this tomorrow, if the pressures of life will yield temporarily. I can barely wait.
