Bluemarlin Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Hi Everyone This is my first post here. I tried posting my problem on Avsim but got no response - I should have tried here earlier. I have just put a fresh FSX install onto my PC but having difficulties assigning axis to my Saitek Toe Brakes. It seems that when they get pressed they are activating the axis for the elevator and ailerons. Press the left toe brake and it is showing up as the x axis and press the right toe brake and it triggers the elevator axis obviously screwing things up badly. I did what I thought was a total clean of my system including formatting the drive fsx was installed on prior to the reinstall. I have tried deleting the newly installed and registered FSUIPC and reinstalling - all to no avail. Are there any other places FSUIPC has information tucked away apart from the modules folder in FSX? Is there a registry entry somewhere that could be screwed up? If so where would I find it? Can somebody please offer some advice? Many thanks Barra
Andydigital Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Check for default assignments within FSX's control assignment interface as FS automatically assigns a set of default axis and button assignments to all joystick devices when they are plugged in to a particular USB port for the first time. If you make sure that the pedals are only ever plugged into that one usb port, then you can safely remove the assignments from within FS and expect them not to be reassigned the next time you plug them into that same port. If you were to plug them into another USB port then FS will assign those commands again.
Bluemarlin Posted November 21, 2013 Author Report Posted November 21, 2013 Hi Andy Thank you for your reply. As I have reinstalled FSX it could easily be possible that the yoke/throttle and rudder pedals are not plugged into the same usb ports that they originally were plugged into prior to the FSX reinstall. I had no idea that I needed to take note of which usb port they were originally plugged into. All fsx axis assignments have been deleted from the FSX controls except I have allocated throttle 1 and 2 in FSX to avoid problems in PMDG B777. What do I do now?
Andydigital Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 In that case you likely have dual assignments within FSUIPC itself. Try removing the FSUIPC4.ini file from the modules folder (fs must not be running) and put it somewhere safe. Then load FS and try making your assignments again in FSUIPC. If that fixes your problem then you know your old file had the same axis assigned to more than one function.
Bluemarlin Posted November 21, 2013 Author Report Posted November 21, 2013 Hi Andy This has got to be the most confusing and crazy thing I have ever seen. I have ensured the only axis allocated in fsx is the throttle 1 and 2 to the throttles on my yoke set up. They are the only things listed in the controls section of fsx. I have gone into the buttons section and deleted the button commands num* and num- as those were allocated to brakes. Closed the fsx. Deleted the FSUIPC config then started FSX and gone to modules. I have allocated each control input via the axis allocation tool and ensured they are being sent to fsuipc as the relevant control and then exited and everything seems to work except the moment I step on the left brake the aileron control rolls left and when I step on the right brake the controls pitch forward. I think you might be able to imagine the few sweet words I am calling this atm. I look forward to your next advice.
Andydigital Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Are you sure you really have unassigned them in FSX itself, you have to specifically choose the Saitek Rudder pedals from a drop down menu first before you will see the assignments for that device. I am away from a PC today and replying to you on a tablet so cannot walk you through the steps without actually seeing the same dialogues on my PC, my memory isn't quite good enough to remember all the correct menu terminology without seeing it. One thing is for sure, if the axis is doing more than one thing at once it has to be assigned in two places at once, either in FSX itself and FSUIPC or perhaps both times in FSUIPC, but you should have ruled out the later being the cause after removing the FSUIPC4.ini file from the Modules folder.
Bluemarlin Posted November 21, 2013 Author Report Posted November 21, 2013 Andy you are a bl@@dy champion. I didn't pick up that in the fsx controls section where it said Saitek Cessna Pro Flight Yoke there was a drop down menu. I assumed it saw all the Saitek controllers as one unit. As soon as it dropped down to the rudders and I deleted the aileron and elevator commands we were back in business. Thank you so much, it was really doing my head in. I wish I could buy you a drink.
Andydigital Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Lol, no worries cobber, glad you got it sorted.
