  1. Thanks so much for the input everyone, it helps!

Another thing I was working on implementing is letting departures get a bit further out on the radar before giving them Contact Departure. They seem to fly a tangent until you do, so it helps some with separation and crossover issues.

I find it part of the fun of Tower!3D Pro that you can/need to experiment with different traffic patterns at each airport. For instance, one of my favorites to play is Philadelphia using 27R and 26 for Arrivals and 27L and 35 for Departures. I direct most of the smaller planes up to 320/737 types (not all will allow it) that are terminals C, D, E and F to use 35, larger planes and A thru C are sent to 27L.

For Arrivals, 27R for all except the small turboprop DH, etc. types which I bring in on 26. My only beef with this setup is flights landing on 26 refuse to vacate anywhere but D taxiway on the left-hand side. I need to start a log and send in a report to Vic a some point.

    Thanks again.

  2. Hi all:

Just picked up Las Vegas along with Color today; so far I like it quite a bit... but I seem to be having difficulty in establishing a "proper" arrival runway and associated departure runway. Let me explain what I mean.

I have no idea what the RL airport does when it comes to how the flight arrivals and departures are organized, but I have tried the following with mixed success:

    1. 1R Arrivals with 7L for Departures. Worked OK until departing flights started insisting on turning NW/W or SW/S after takeoff and fouling the 1R approach. So, no go on that strategy.
    2. 19L Arrivals with 7L for Departures. Essentially the same result, flights veering into the path of arrivals, so another no go.
    3. 25R Arrivals with 19L for Departures. This worked OK for a bit, but again became unworkable in about the same amount of time elapsed.

The odd similarities in each of the three scenarios made me suspicious that perhaps KLAS must be run with heavy use of departure heading and/or altitude adjustments. I am rather unfamiliar with them as all the other airports (other than KSAN which I don't own) really don't seem to need the additional directions to keep traffic out of each other's way. Maybe I need to use the same side in parallel  (1L/1R, or 7L/7R) for arrivals and departures?

Can any of you guys answer the question about why this is happening so regularly and either confirm or deny my suspicions? I would also like to hear your personal recommendations on KLAS runway assignments and strategies that have worked (or not) for you so far.

    Thanks!

    Excellent. Thank you.
Yes, I have all the emails with all the codes.

    Ken:

Make sure you mind your directories and where the SP5 version defaults to install. It is an easy way to screw up the installation and game. For instance, I have a number of separate games (non-Steam) on a G: drive, so I had to keep an eye on all the install steps. I still messed up one, but it was easy enough to fix.

It's not an issue for most, but not everyone wants to install in C: under the default configuration.

    Good luck and have fun!

  4. Vets:

Can someone take time to explain how Tower!3D Pro and FeelThere requires you to upgrade/patch when a new version of a product comes out? I currently own everything except San Diego and its associated Real Traffic Color package.

So, now that Las Vegas/+RC is out and also an update to Real Traffic, I am considering purchasing them. I am wondering how the Real Traffic update is accomplished. Do I have to go back to the site and redownload every single RT file and then install them again? Or are the changes to other airports all in one file? Are there any boobytraps I should know about with this whole process before I get halfway in and realize I screwed up?

Inquiring controller newbs want to know!

    Thanks much,

    Paul

  5. Sweet! Looking good there Vic!

While I am thinking about it, are you guys concentrated on new airports vs. upgrading existing ones? I was thinking of KPHL where taxiways have changed, KJFK as well. Figured they are on a back burner, but as the saying goes... if you don't ask.

Thanks Vic, and keep up the good work, it is much appreciated!

    P.

  6. Well rats. I guess we would need to convince Vic to change the way the program is coded.

Perhaps a check in there so that planes cannot be "auto-approached" on a runway that they are not capable of landing on. It already knows (and refuses the runway #) after you clear the flight to land, so why not before the approach? I mean, we currently have no input on which runway arrivals are assigned to... seems like a logical next step to me.

  7. Hello all:

For all the veteran Tower3D players out there- has anyone been able to create a command that combines "Change to RWY XX" and/or "Enter Final RWY XX" with "Cleared to Land" and had it work? I am trying to slice a few seconds off my overall VR response times in-game and currently you have to make two separate commands to the arrival flight, one to change the runway, then a second to give the clear to land on the new runway.

    Thanks in advance!

  8. Antialiasing (AA) Settings:

I did some research on the Tower3D AA settings a week or two ago and wanted to share my findings.

    Selection choices are:

    • OFF
    • FXAA
    • SSAA
    • DLAA

If you really want to make use of antialiasing but still minimize the hit to framerate, make sure to choose FXAA. It has the least impact of the three kinds of AA that FeelThere offers for use. Of course if you are desperate, just turn it OFF instead.

  9. I had a similar experience NoleJP. I figured this is a well-known game issue so I didn't start a thread on it myself.

Anyway, PHL playing yesterday. Two American flights, one ARR, while on final, a DEP at gate on the end of the third terminal (backwards "L") pops up and asks for pushback. I happened to have the ARR flight selected and thought better of approving pushback due to collision on taxiway J. However, what ended up happening was once the ARR flight showed its gate and I knew it was next to the DEP, I figured I would let the ARR gate first, then let the DEP leave.

The ARR gates just fine, but the DEP, while accepting my VR pushback/27L approval, won't leave the gate. I noticed that even though clearance for pushback was given and acknowledged, the plane refused to leave the gate. I ended up deleting the DEP flight to take care of it.

A separate scenario at JFK- in the Terminal 1 and 2 "tin pan alley", I had a Korean Air with pushback approval; in the time it took it to start actually pushing, a China Southern flight popped up at Terminal 1 towards the taxiway end. Of course the Korean Air flight tow driver pushes the plane back into the China Southern flight and yours truly ends up with a -500 ground collision... think I cursed pretty good after that one!

I have to say that the majority of the time "faux pushback" is not an issue for me, just once in a while when the air gods deem it "necessary" for some reason.

  10. I purchased everything except KSAN/color from FeelThere; pretty much did step-by-step main program, airports, then color packs and all was OK until I found that since I chose a non-default install location G:\, I ended up with one of the color add-ons IIRC in the wrong folder. Simple fix, but you DO need to pay close attention when the install is going on. When in doubt and issues abound, reinstall.

Another thing to try since it happens a lot using steam is to disable the steam overlay in-game...

    That might help..

    Grtz

    Willem

I agree with Willem on this one. I have had a few times where the Steam overlay in-game caused some really odd issues, and since the vast majority of people don't really need it waiting available just..in..case, send it to the cleaners!

  12. Thanks to you both, that helps a lot. Perhaps later this year we are due for a manual update. It would help with reducing newb questions. I found the current one lacking, lots of repetitive paragraphs and basic information but no specifics to answer your questions. I'll leave it at that as I know FT are a small company and rather busy with stuff.

Oh, I also was wondering if the 2011 manual is still available to access or download.

    Thanks again.

  13. RickyJ:

I understand what the categories are- what I would like to know is can you look at a flight's strip in Tower!3D and know what the category of a given aircraft is? Not trying to be a jerk here, I just want to know what information is relayed on the strip. Some of it is dead obvious, the rest? - not so much.

Note: I looked at the Avwriter thread you quoted and saw your breakdown on one flight, thanks. So, are all (M)edium/Cat II flights noted as XXXM and all (H)eavy/Cat III flights as XXXH in the game?

    Thanks.

  14. Hello all:

New to Tower!3D Pro and the forums. I did a search on this a couple different ways and got nothing, so here goes:

Playing JFK, forget if it was morning or afternoon. I started noticing a trend where a Jet Blue arrival gets to the gate and immediately after shutdown the aircraft pops up in the Departure strip under a new flight number requesting pushback. This happened about three times in a three hour window of ops to me yesterday. Now, I know airlines do turn some planes around quickly and send them back out, but thought I would poll the forum here to see what is what.

I also seem to have more trouble with the flight ground control once it leaves the gate again. Of course it is subjective, but they get confused on the south side of the Jet Blue ramp, particularly if you try to reroute the ones on the far (east) end of the terminal to 31L via A, K (or KK).

Anyone able to shed some light on this phenomenon?

The issue of LUAW has come up before. If my old memory serves me correctly, the reason it is there is that it is permissible in ICAO airspace but not FAA.

It wouldn't be the first time those wacky europeans have flown in the face of "superior American convention" and I am sure it won't be the last!

I think we Yanks naturally take offence when our "rebel" genes kick in. Oh... and just in case, the above is just dripping with sarcasm. We need some emoticons for that. ;p

    Hi Pdubya,

I didn't just make up my post, on February 24 FeelThere posted the following in another thread:

"According to our programmer .... teaching the speech is no longer required".

Not wishing to disagree with the superstar that wrote the software, I didn't bother with the redundant training and I find the speech recognition in T3D Pro works superbly.

    Wayne

Ah... gotcha. I had not seen the thread. I suppose it can't actually hurt, particularly if you are not a native english speaker and told to use English (US) in the recognition software. That seems to be a bit of a problem if you think on it.

    Appreciate the follow up Wayne.

Thanks, will try it again.  Pretty sure I have everything turned off/lowest settings when I play ATL and it still bogs the computer down to an unplayable level, but I'll double check.  I've been playing LAX a lot now as a result.  Thanks!!

CL30: If you have tried just about everything, then your computer is trying to tell you it doesn't have what it takes to handle the load. Tower!3D Pro may look a bit simplistic, but there is a LOT of stuff going on simultaneously. Adding the graphical bells and whistles only stresses it more. I should know as I have pretty robust PC with a Haswell E i7 5930K CPU, 32GB DDR4 RAM, GTX1080 Nvidia card, SSD hard drives and still can't run it full tilt.

  18. I will play devil's advocate here and disagree with winsaudi. I actually think it is crucial for you to do this if you want a high level of recognition and less frustration using VR.

Go into Windows settings and then search for microphone and also voice recognition. If you haven't done it already, go through the motions of setting up your microphone in Windows. Then find "training" under voice recognition and do the exercises. They do really help with the computer recognizing your unique inflections and way of speaking.

As a matter of fact, I would recommend everyone here spend some time training the computer to better recognize how you speak. It really doesn't take more than a half hour, and will certainly improve the chance that Tower!3D Pro will be a good experience.
