  1. Heres a good tip:

When posting a nighttime or dark pic on a forum with a light background and color pallette, it might be a good idea to put a thick black border around the pic to compensate for the contrast of the pic and the forum background. It will make the pic a lot easier to see. I'll post an example in a lil' bit.

  2. 1. The water "problem" is not fixed within the program, but more rather the modeller of the boat. He has to define the cabin area to clear the water.

    2. VS 7 will most likely be noticeably slower on most lower-end machines, but in this day and age there comes a time when you just have to bite the bullet and upgrade your machine sooner or later. Preferrably sooner...

    3. In a couple of weeks is the expected release of VS 7.

  3. Got some progress from the X-Cad ppl. They've

reached the 100,000 mark. Heres th e-mail:

    Hi ,

Thanks to your participation in the X-CAD 100,000 Seat Giveaway we have reached the goal of 100,000 registrations early!

Some of you may not have heard, we announced on Wednesday that Alibre is the company behind X-CAD and X-CAD is Alibre Design Xpress, the newest member of the Alibre Design product family.

As of August 1, Alibre Design Xpress will be available to all for free. But, as one of the first 100,000 to register, you're getting a little more.

For you Alibre Design Xpress will include all the features listed on the new Alibre Design Xpress site, plus:

    * Advanced part modeling, which includes features like shelling, 3D sketch, reference surfaces, etc. View the Alibre Design brochure on our web site for the full part modeling feature set.

    * Create and edit assemblies with up to 25 unique parts. You can open an assembly with more parts in read-only mode.

    * Create 2D drawings with standard orthographic views. All drawings are fully associative: you change the model and the drawing updates.

    * 3D import/export of all the standard formats Alibre Design supports, including STEP, SAT (ACIS), and IGES. DXF and DWG are supported in 2D, and STL is supported for export.

All free versions of Alibre Design Xpress require an Internet connection and will display a banner of Google ads through a built-in web page. No third-party adware is installed on your system. If your Internet connection is lost we have taken steps to ensure that you can save your work. The Internet connection requirement can be turned off for a small fee.

On August 1, you will receive instructions on how to download the software. We had hoped to release it to you sooner, but given the nature of software development, we are in the final stages of quality testing. At this time we expect all to be ready for the August 1 release.

This is truly the best offer for parametric 3D CAD software available anywhere. When you get the download instructions, please complete the steps to download and install Alibre Design Xpress right away. The special offer you get as one of the first 100,000 expires on August 31, don't delay.

If you are no longer interested in Alibre Design Xpress and would like to be removed from all future email communications and eligibility for the extra features offered to the first 100,000 registrants, you may Unsubscribe here.

This isn't the end, there will be additional valuable incentives for engaging with us over time, so I encourage you to stay opted in to our email communications and participate in the short surveys and contests. We won't abuse your email address, we stand by our privacy policy and if you opt out, we won't send you messages.

    Best Regards,

  4. You are using Gmax right? Is it version 2.1? It

shouldn't matter tho. In the lower left corner

of the prog are zoom and view controls. 6

buttons total. (might be 4 in gmax) but the

lower left one should maximize\minimize the

selected view. I don't know what's wrong with

your paint app tho. So to fix that one go to

    http://www.google.com and and search for

Wisdomsoft Screenhunter and the first link

will be the home page for the screen capture

program I know many ppl use. All you need

is the trial version, the full version has

nothing at all that you couldn't do better in a different program.

  5. Here goes:

1.Go into the Gmax program and load the model.

2.Select the Perspective viewport and press Alt+W and that will maxamize the view.

3.Press the PrintScreen button on your keyboard.

    4.Open Paint.

5.On the top of the paint window click on >Edit>Paste and it will paste the image into paint.

Save and then load onto the forum using add picture function when making new posts.

  6. I "Might" be wrong, I use 3dsmax now, but I think if you select the point vertex and chamfer it multiple times that would do the trick. OR chamfer the vertex once about halfway inbetween the surrounding ones, and them apply a meshsmooth to it and mess with the 3 different types of smoothing options. BTW, could you show a pic of what your working with right now to get a better look?

  7. My eyes might be bullshitting me, but I think the landscape is far smoother then the hard-edged look of previous installments.

BTW- Charlotte, Could we get some specs of what Ilan is running, and what machines will be able to do bump mapping? (I'm hoping that the bump mapping is done entirely in DirectX.) Also, how much performance loss is associated with all these new graphical touches.

  8. i disagree with the disagreement of #2, but theres nothing I can do about that. #4 on the other hand goes like this: I Jumped down his throat, I know, and I acknowledged this by helping in any way I could. I had no intent of leading someone away from the forum which seems to be what your suggesting, but I was broadening his options If he needed any help. Is that so wrong? I agree and disagree with the disagreement of #2. I think that I was wrong for jumping down his throat, but nontheless, he 'did' in fact post 5 times about the same topic. Thanks anyways.

  9. all it takes is patience and practice. If you cannot find any of that in yourself, then you likely won't be seeing all the boats that you want made. Also, sorry for my lack of sanity, but you've created like 5 different topics about the same thing, thus moving useful threads on down into anonominity. So please understand. Thanks in advance.

  10. 1. Modellers don't do many requests. (I've never seen it happen l8ely)

    2. You sure as hell littered up the forum when you made all 5 posts that were pertaining to the same thing.

    3. If you want a boat modeled, then go out to http://www.discreet.com click on products, and download Gmax. A free and powerful modelling tool. Just find some tutorials on the net, and model it yourself.

    4. If you have any modelling questions, e-mail me at Gu1l7y5p4rk@gmail.com and I will be happy to help as best as i can, just so I'm not throwing you to the curb. :)
