Do you agree or disagree: VS is designed to simulate actual and realistic boating and sailing, right? Well, last time I checked, the Monarch of the Seas had real lifeboats and the simulated one doesn't. So is anyone up to the small challenge? Just to add 10 lifeboats on each side? :?: :!:  I'd appreciate it!

LOL! Ya, I guess that will work.

Not to sound pushy or anything but, how's the new computer coming along Sellu?

You wouldn't happen to be a fan of "Dangerous Catch", would ya? ;)
Not to be rude, but if thats the Discovery Channel show I think your talkin' about, I believe it is called "Deadliest Catch." Actually, funny thing is that I'm not a big fan of fishing and that type of sailing, but that show just pulls me right into it. It's addicting, even if your not into that kind of stuff. That is a kool show!

LOL! No problem! So I guess it's settled, the Nieuw Amsterdam is built too high to have bow thrusters. Or at least have the major effect of them because I noticed that the ship reacts differently when bow thrusters are going than stern thrusters. It looks as if its the stern ones are going but there is a slight difference. Thanks for all the major help!
-
I think so too. It was an old ship, not a modern one.And I strongly believe that the real Nieuw Amsterdam didn't have bow thrusters but was assisted by tugs. -
No, I know that its the stern thrusters that are working because, strangely, when I advance for bow thrusters the stern begins to move as if the stern thrusters were going. Though, when I go for both, stern and bow thrusters, the ship moves to the side like it should. But if I do it to do a tight 180 degree turn its as if its only the stern thrusters going. I know, that I'm confusing. LOL! Oh, and I do have VS 6.8 . And no disrespect Charlotte, but I've been sailing for a few years now and I know the difference between bow and stern, forward and aft.
-
Is there anyway to add bow thrusters to the Nieuw Amsterdam. Currently there are only stern thrusters available and make her a pain to dock. Can I alter some type of file to activate both forward and stern thrusters? Help me please. :?:

Like I said, just an idea, not something that is being done, or something that has been done.
Sorry, the Superfast XII has the gangplank thingy in the back that lowers. But thats one of the only boats that has a passenger entrance as much as I'm concerned. And sometimes it levels out, and sometimes it does. It just so happens that here it does level out to the dock!

Whatever floats your boat! Like I said, just an idea, not something that is being done, or something that has been done. I don't sail cargoships very often, REASON: Because I don't like them much! And you can make the gangplank go down to sea level! Start it at about 2 decks above the sea and it go down along the side of the ship to sea level. If the dock is too high it'll go through it because most dock sceneries are just additional (I think it called dynamic scenery :?: ) scenery. Just like here on the MS Delphin. See the gangplank run alongside the vessel? Like that. Then you can add a gangplank to both port and starboard sides. One for the passengers and the other for the coast guard and pilot boats.
-
Definitely! I don't know much on how to build ships, but can't a gangplank be activated when pressing 'D' (Dock)? I mean, instead of having an anchor fall out, a gangplank pop out from the ship to the port. Just an IDEA!
-
That is a fun game. I think that is what we are missing in VS, objectives. The ability to have to dock in one specific port and transport passengers and cargo to their destination port. Just an idea! Yet I still think that simulations are loads of fun too!

I couldn't find anything related to a "fuel line."
-
Thanks for all the responses, here's the other thing. The "fueling line" changes spots on the ship. When I open the HMAS Sirius it can be on the bridge area or in mid-air! I'm also including the boat file of the vessel.

You have a double subdirectory MV_Mercator !
Move all the files in the second directory up to \boats\MV_Mercator (from \boats\MV_Mercator\MV_Mercator\) and you should be sailing.
That was it! Thanks to all! Now I'm sailing along smooth seas on the MV Mercator!
-
Hi yall, I downloaded MV Mercator from WJT's site and I'm having a problem. I downloaded it correctly and installed it to VS. All the files seem okay but when I try to open up the Mercator in VS it closes me out. It just exits. I don't know what I can do. I included the MV_Mercator's files from the boat files in VS. Please help!

Opps, I'm sorry! Just got a little happy to see a little action on this thread again!

Ya, what about Estonia?
-
Is there no new updated pictures or posts yet? About how much is left? Don't leave us hanging here, LOL! :? :?: :!:

Great idea! And yall are all correct about the water color issue and the smoke prob. Thanks!

Thanks guys for all the "constructive" comments. I'll look into to it to see what I can darken. You see I've been on threes cruises onto the Gulf of Mexico and the water is unbelievabily blue there.

quite surprising the number of screenshots of VS I have seen that the sea is totally wrong or unrealistic.
What do you mean?? The texture is unreal or the shading? :?
Even the Titanic had life boats...

I'm very happy with your response! Actually, the model was made by Guillaume Darier. I plan to e-mail him. Here's the problem, I don't know what lifeboat is suitable. http://www.static-lift.net/~vsshipyard/_davit.ZIP I think thats a pretty good lifeboat set. Once again thanks. And once I get the authorization from Guillaume Darier I'll get back to you. Or, do ask permission to Ilan because it is on his site?
